Why the Owner Chose Lake Burton
Marianne discovered this lake in 1975 and was impressed with the clear water, pristine setting, isolation (at that time) and views of the mountains.
The Unique Benefits at this House
This is our respite from the city. We swim, hike, read and occasionally venture out to galleries/shopping. We also entertain family and friends for long weekends. Our children and grandchildren love to come and fish, swim, boat and hike.
Owner's Map of Lake Burton
Bob and I are retired from Emory University but still keep busy with second careers involving consulting and volunteer work. We like to travel especially to Italy where we have a son, daughter-in-law and 3 grandchildren. We also have 6 grandchildren in the states who like to visit the lake.

I've stayed at this Lake Burton property many times and in many different weather conditions and it's always better than wonderful. The different decks provide spectacular views of the lake and plenty of space to entertain. I love the intimacy of the beach (very private feeling) and the plantings around the area. It was very safe, clean and accessible for the younger children, too. The home itself is spacious and designed perfectly for entertaining or relaxing quietly. This Lake Burton home is surrounded by so much beauty: water, mountains, trees. No pretentiousness and a whole lot of comforting peace. This is my idea of a perfect summer rental.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.

We all had a wonderful time during our Sept. rental. It was early enough that the Lake was still warm and late enough to avoid the summer crowds. We swam, canoed, hiked and ate very well. My adult? children competed jumping off the boathouse and the grandchildren slept through the night. We had a fun morning in Clayton visiting the galleries. The house was well maintained, very comfortable and the sunsets were great. Loved the deck. We ate most of our meals there.

We visited Lake Burton for the first time and stayed at this house called "Summers End". It was exactly what we were hoping for - a great getaway that felt like a lakehouse should. The house is well maintained and clean and has all the kitchen ammenities you could want. On the outside, there were floaties, fishing rods and other things for the family to use. In fact, our daughter caught her first fish of her life and then many more right there off the dock. We loved sitting on the boathouse or up on the deck watching the sunsets and having a drink or dinner. We were fortunate enough to see lots of hummingbirds right outside the kitchen table. Our kids are already asking when we can go back and we are planning to make it an annual trip - we loved it.

My family and friends escaped the heat of Atlanta spent a week at Summers End at Lake Burton. The first thing we were surprised with was the temperature difference between Atlanta and the Lake - it was much much cooler. We loved the house and the cedar walls and lake house feel about it all. The views of sunsets were spectacular. We have younger kids and they were able to wade in the beach or when we put life jackets on them we could have them jump of one of the many areas of dock space. We are definitely headed back.

The home is on a beautiful peice of property, but is in great need of renovation. The property was not clean in fact we decided to leave the property due to its uncleanness and need for pest control after only one day. I would not recommend it.
Owner response:I have rented this house for ten years and never had a complaint. as you can tell from the reviews above. It is cleaned thoroughly before each rental. This renter arrived, stayed for two days, left without telling me and rented another house. He had booked for ten days in the peak season. He asked his entire rental fee returned except for 2 days. The lease clearly states" a thirty day notice is required for cancellation. Cancellations or changes that result in a shortened stay ...forfeit the full advance payment and damage/reservation deposit. " Although the lease is clear about this situation, in order to assusge his negative feelings, I retuned his deposit, and also turned over to him the fee that I received from a last minute rental for his second weekend. This was much more than required . He still wasn't satisfied. The house has new carpet throughout, a new A/C, new kitchen and bath flooring so it is in very good condition

Had a great family reunion here for Mother's Day. So peaceful, and quiet! Unbelievable views of the lake and mountains. The water was beautiful, and it's obvious that the owners take good care of their home away from home.

My family and I have stayed at this wonderful property a few times. This house is perfect for getting away. The weather is cooler here, the house tucked in the trees and the view from the boathouse is unparalleled. The sunsets you see here rival any that I've seen before. The water is perfect for swimming and the fishing is fantastic. This is the perfect place for a get-away

We had a wonderful lazy weekend away from the city here! It was so peaceful and the house felt like I was at home. The decks are amazing. Great way to start the day with coffee looking over the lake!
