Enjoy the serenity of the country and the convenience of a nearby metropolitan area. Choose from a long list of activities such as dining, shopping, or perhaps something more active. By day or night, Calusa Cottage is like traveling to a bygone era. Amateur astronomers will delight in a clear night sky. For the birder there is a pair of nesting American Bald Eagles 500' away.
There are many other birds such as Roseate Spoonbills, Pileated Woodpeckers, Osprey and more to enjoy--and those are just the ones you can see from the cottage. In addition Calusa Cottage is located at Fowl Play Farm--a small family hobby farm. There are chickens, guineas, goats, rabbits and a horse.
Pine Island is home to an ancient civilization and there is a research center dedicated to them--the Calusa Indians. For the outdoors person birding goes beyond the aforementioned. Rent a kayak at a nearby marina and explore Pine Island Sound--one of the most important estuaries and rookeries in South Florida. Travel a bit further to Cayo Costa, a barrier island and member of the National Seashore for some of the finest shelling in the world.
