This beautiful, new waterfront property nestled between Great Auk Land Trust and Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is now available for your enjoyment. The enchantment of the restless sea and the sounds of the echoing foghorn of Petit Manan lighthouse beckon you to the natural beauty surrounding this waterfront cottage.
Downeast Retreat includes ceramic tile, radiant heat floors, natural spruce and pine,post and beam organic architecture that takes advantage of all your surroundings no matter where you are in the spacious and cozy cottage. Featuring two outside decks, one ocean side the other brook side, take in all the sounds of ocean, sea birds, the distant fog horn, or bubbling stream and song birds and whispering winds through spruce and fir, the choice is yours. Awaken to a breathtaking view of islands in the bay from the upstairs loft. Watch the local fisherman as they set out to sea for the day’s fresh catch. Take in the salt air as you watch eagles travel the coastline along the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge. Hiking trails, kayaking and biking are out the front door, wild blueberries in season a short walk away, fresh lobster and clams at our local fresh sea food outlet just minutes from the cottage.
The cottage waterfront overlooks Bois Bubert Island, the Atlantic Ocean and Petit Manan Lighthouse. Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is a ten minute walk away with several shore hikes with intimate, incredible views. Great Auk Land Trust has a spectacular trail to it’s 317 foot summit that displays an extraordinary panoramic view of the surrounding area including numerous Maine islands, mountains, bays and Petit Manan Peninsular itself. A must do for the whole family.
Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and the bustling town of Ellsworth also make great day trip destinations. To complete your authentic Maine experience, take a day trip Nor’ east on route one through the heart of Down-east Maine from Milbridge to Eastport. If you want an international experience then continue to Campabello Island or New Brunswick, Canada only an hour and a half away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Pigeon Hill Bay in October. The cottage truly was a retreat, with a simple yet elegant feel. The cottage was the perfect place to relax, and the location was superb: allowed us to explore the Wildlife Refuge, as well as take day trips throghout Downeast Maine. Hosts were great and helpful with making recommendations on activities and food as they're local to the area. Thanks for a great stay -- hope to be back!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
