La Casa Azul (The Blue House) is a beautiful home and a dream to stay in. After several cruise ship trips to Roatan, my wife and I wanted to come stay for a while. While searching the internet for hotels, we stumbled upon house rentals. We looked at several dozen online before deciding to rent this house in April 2013 for one week. Prior to the trip, communication with the owner (Marti) was good. We were met at the airport and taken to the house. We received a short briefing about the house, security, etc. The property is in a gated community that includes several housing sections and a condo section. The section we were in only has a few houses and the road winds up the side of the mountain. Luckily, this house is toward the bottom as the climb without a car much past the house is tough. We felt very sorry for the security guards and lawn guys who did it every day. Across the street from the house is the beach that is private for the development and is next to the condos and a small restaurant (where we never ate). From the beach, about 200 yards out (that’s farther than you think) is a nice part of the reef in 10-15 feet of water. An excellent snorkel spot (Spooky Channel) is to the right as you swim out. You have to go through a good bit of turtle grass to get to the reef but it’s not too bad. Back to the house: The rented part is 2 bedroom, 1 bath. There is a separate apartment below that is rented long-term and a master suite upstairs that is not rented. The bedrooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The beds are quite comfortable and each bedroom has its own a/c. The livingroom/kitchen/dining room are all nicely decorated and have an open floor plan. There is a large LCD TV w/cable, DVD, stereo, and ipod dock. There are hard wood floors throughout. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook, including a nice variety of spices (replace what you use). We were very impressed by the house and the property - so much so that we spent 1 week there and, two months later, came back for two more weeks. Except for the need of a better cork screw, I cannot think of any complaints for this property.

Great House with all the comforts of home
Great House with all the comforts of home
We had a great stay at Caza Azul. The place was immaculate and had a nice open layout to relax with friends. Greeting at the ferry when we arrived was friendly and helpful. The kitchen had all the supplies and gadgets we needed to be able to cook some meals at home. The beach is right across the street with kayaks. If you happen to be a triathlete, this is a dream training spot! We didn't have bikes, but the calm, shallow beach is perfect for an open water swim, and there are some great hills for running in the neighborhood. Casa Azul is a little outside of the main tourist areas of Roatan. We appreciated the quiet, and it a fast, cheap cab ride to get into town.

Casa Azul Lawson Rock
Casa Azul Lawson Rock
Wow, what a great house. We just got back from a beautiful stay in Casa Azul and are counting the days until we can go back. Our stay included transportation from the airport to the house and back to the airport on our departure day. The house is in a beautiful development with lots of mature trees and beautiful landscaping. I've never seen so many humming birds. There are security guards and we felt very secure there. The kitchen is well stocked and we ended up cooking a lot of our meals at the house instead of going out. The house was clean and everything worked. Its a quick walk down to the beach and from there we took the kayaks out to the drop off to snorkel. I've done a lot of snorkeling and this is some of the best I've done. It's about a 5 minute paddle out to the "wall." From there, just snorkel along this drop off to see an amazing array of tropical fish, snapper, grouper and we even saw a sea turtle. We bought our groceries at Eldons in Coxen Hole. It's the largest grocery store on the island, but very small by U.S. standards. Coxen Hole and West End are both a 5 to 7 minute cab ride from Lawson Rock and we were able to negotiate a price of $3 to $4 for cab rides. From West End, we found a great guy named Fredo to take us in his boat to West Bay for more snorkeling and restaurants. $3 per person for the water taxi. We ended up hiring Fredo to take us for a half day of snorkeling and fishing. For food in West End we enjoyed the Thai Restaurant and the Lighthouse. The ceviche was very good at the Light House, but they served it with saltines. We asked them for some chips, and they fired up some fresh tortillas. If you are looking for a great vacation, in a beautiful house, we recommend Casa Azul.

Owner response: Thank you for your comments regarding our Casa Azul. We love our home and have enjoyed sharing it with others. I'm glad you got to enjoy the kayaks, it is truely breathtaking to see what is out on the "wall". We look forward to you returning.
Best place to stay on Roatan
Best place to stay on Roatan
We just got back from a fantastic trip to Roatan. The snorkeling and diving were exceptional. Three recomendations: 1) rent a car so that you can see more of the island, 2) take the opportunity to make a day trip to Cayos Cochinos to get a taste of Garifuna culture, and 3) stay at Casa Azul - one of the best places we have ever stayed on vacation. The home is meticulously maintained, is well-appointed and very comfortable, and is in a ideally-located development with local security on site.

We HIGHLY recommend this place! Beautiful & spacious! We felt very much at home. The beds were very comfortable. We could leave our windows open at night because the house is in a gated community with 24 hr watchmen, which is important to me because we felt very safe. Houses are well-spaced so we could not hear any neighbors. Several times I walked to the beach & relaxed on a lounge chair (which is all part of the Lawson Rock Association - has watchmen there too) I also walked over to their dock, which is a great place to start snorkeling from. This house would be great for a honeymoon - has a romantic tropical feel. Since cooking is a hobby of mine, I enjoyed being able to have a full-size kitchen, which was fully stocked with all the cookware I needed. There is a large dining area next to the kitchen. Since the weather is always warm, you can sit on the back balcony and have your coffee in the morning in January! We went to a few restaurants and on this island the food is fabulous and very inexpensive. We ate at the Lobster Pot Restaurant one night and were very pleased that we could get a steak and Lobster dinner for $25-$30. I had the shrimp, which were huge and delicious! My husband went SCUBA diving several times at Las Rocas, which was also very, very affordable. (ask for Mirta) He said they were the most amazing diving experiences he ever had. Even in January the water was 74 degrees F at 60 feet depth, so he didn't need his wetsuit. There is a place to have lunch at Las Rocas and the food was delicious. I was swimming at West Beach and I saw a necklace on the bottom of the ocean and had to dive down to get it. It was just a cheap necklace, but the point is that I could see it clearly! Visibility is close to 100 feet. The water, beach, everything about the island was so clean - paradise. Grocery stores have everything you need and accept credit cards. Everywhere we went accepted US dollars or credit cards, so you don't have to worry about converting money before you go. Even the airport exit fee (which was less than $40) accepted US dollars. We loved it that we could fly from Houston directly to the island. It's a tiny airport but they have a nice coffee place. While waiting for our plane to depart there's a really good sandwich shop & 2 tiny gift shops, great for souvenirs. We can't wait to visit Roatan & stay at Casa Azul again!!! One more thing, the owners are very nice & answered all my questions before we went.

A Stay in Paradise
A Stay in Paradise
This is a beautiful home in excellent condition. It is in a very safe area and is close to everything you need. There is a beautiful beach and dock across roadway. The home is very comfortable with first class amenities and everything you need to have peaceful, relaxing stay. There are some great restaurants not far away or you can visit the supermarket and prepare your own meals in the well equipped kitchen. Lots of windows to see the beautiful scenery and to let in the tropical breezes. If you want the most relaxing and comfortable vacation in Roatan, this is it.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your comments. We're happy that your stay in Casa Azul was relaxing and refreshing. We hope you will return and stay with us again. Remember ... mi casa es su casa.
This is our second stay at Casa Azul in Lawson's Rock and 4th trip to Roatan. What a beautiful location with all the ammenities you could ask for. We enjoy having the privacy of a seperate and well-maintained home, while enjoying the security and luxuries of the condo units. Staying here, you are close to the grocery store in Coxen Hole and the busy West Bay/West End, but far enough away to feel relaxed and refreshed. Most days you have the pools and beach to yourself. The security in Lawson's Rock is top notch - friendly and helpful. Snorkeling off the dock is some of the best on the island. Access to kayaks is also a great convenience! The grounds are gorgeous and well-maintained. We rented a car this time around, but typically use taxi's as they are easy to catch from the main entrance of Lawson's Rock and are an inexpensive way to get around. As for the house, it is very well-kept and clean. The kitchen has any appliance you can think of (Blender, coffee maker, rice cooker, etc). Appliances are new and work well. Plenty of beach towels and linnens. Fabulous to have a washer/dryer in the unit! AC works well, though we rarely used it. TV available with Miami news channels - but not worth watching when you are in such a beautiful place. Beds and furniture were clean and comfortable. Back porch is so relaxing - listening to the birds and watching the humming birds swoop through. The owner's can arrange transportation to and from the airport if needed. Internet is through a USB modem - costing roughly $25 for a month of internet from a Tigo store. Reliability of internet access has improved greatly over the years, but still has glitches when the weather is bad. Overall: Highly highly recommend staying at Casa Azul in Lawson's Rock!!! Requests: BBQ Grill. Wi-fi would be a plus, but not necessary.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. We have to agree that the location is one of favorite features to our property. Lawson Rock is so centrally located and safety is also a great feature. We thank you for the suggestions. We are sorry if we didn't tell you that the bar-b-que is available at the condo swimming pool area. It is available to all our guests. Regarding the internet ... at one time we had satalite wifi but found that the Tigo stick is much more reliable. We hope that you will return to Roatan once more and hope you will join us again! We wish you all the best. Ernie and Marti Williams Owners of Casa Azul

This is the third time I have stayed at this property and to say the least- I LOVE it! Extremely safe. Beautiful grounds, close to everything but still very quiet. My favorite place to go snorkeling on the island is right across the street. Hot water is consistent. A lot of places look better than they are, but this place is really as good as it looks.
