Lakefront on Cathead Bay with Wood Fired Hot Tub and Barn
- Minimum stay:2-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Near the very tip of Lealanau, surrounded by forest, state parks and conservancy land. The cottage is just on top of the dunes among beech, birch and pine trees. Take in the view of Lake Michigan and the Fox Islands from the wood-burning hot tub at the end of the wrap-around deck. Perfect for quiet days reading, long hikes, bike riding and star gazing. Sunrises and sunsets are wonderfully colorful. Walk to Leelanau State Park for great dunes and perfect sand beaches or north to Grand Traverse Lighthouse.
Additional outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Newer laundry and kitchen appliances. We love to cook, so we make sure the kitchen is fully functional---good quality pots, knives, and each spring we stock the cabinet with fresh flour, oils, sugar, baking supplies, spices, etc.
The barn includes a ping-pong table and dart board on the second floor. Inside the barn you will also find several bikes and a bike trailer, sails for a Sunfish, two kayaks, a sailboard, the charcoal grill, a badminton set, and life jackets in every size.
Three bedrooms--two have Queen beds and one has two sets of bunk beds/ 4 beds. Linens included.
The links below takes you to google maps and more pictures.
Weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday. Check in is 3 p.m. on the first day, and check out is 10 a.m. on the last day when there are people there before or after you.
Note that google maps sometimes puts our house in the wrong place. As you are driving north, you would turn left on Cathead Bay Drive----we are on the Lake Michigan side, not the bay side.

This rental place is amazing for our honeymoon! The view from the house is great and the house is so cozy. We were able to enjoy sunsets while soaking in the hot tub followed by fires in the fireplace inside. Steve was a great person to work with! Always prompt on returning my emails and provided us with a very extensive list of things to do in the area and how to work things around the house. We would highly recommend a stay here and plan on coming back again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Our family of four stayed very comfortably at this house...super clean, and very relaxing. One point...if you're looking for a perfect beach, this is not the place...very rocky bottom once you get through the marshy beach. There is a fantastic beach within a very short bike ride, though, so it's not a big deal. Views are great; love that the cottage is nestled in the trees! The owner is very helpful and responsive. The photos and information given on this website are very accurate. Northport is a very quiet small town...Leland is a longer drive, but lots more to do there. All in all, I would recommend this house to anyone.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

What a fabulous location! The cottage is in a quiet, peaceful setting on a private road with no traffic. Everything we needed was there, and the fully equipped kitchen is a plus. The large, comfortable living area is surrounded on 3 sides by wall to wall windows for spectacular lake and sunset views. We've already booked reservations for another visit!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Why the Owner Chose Northport:
My wife grew up coming to this part of Michigan with her family. The weather in the summer is perfect, people are nice, and it is not very crowded.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
'The feeling of being secluded. We've spent whole days here and only seen one or two other people. A perfect day begins with a cup of coffee at the kitchen table watching the birds in the bay with a backdrop of the sunrise washing over the spit of land that creates the bay. Depending on the wind, go kayaking or sailing. A hike to the top of the dunes to see Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay at the same time. A good finish to the day is to stoke the hot tub to relax before grilling dinner.'
