I booked this house for a vacation with my siblings and our families. We had a total of six adults between the ages of 25 and 32, and two 8 month-olds, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The location was quiet, but very entertaining. We enjoyed watching all of the traffic in the canal, but the dolphins in there were ever more interesting. The beach was great for swimming and leisurely walks, and was so close we ventured out a few times after laying the babies down. The house was exactly as the pictures portrayed. It was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. There was a minor issues with an A/C unit, but an email to the owner and it was completely resolved by the next day. I would definitely recommend bringing bug repellent; the mosquitoes might have just been bad from the recent rains, but they did keep us from enjoying the back patio for most of the trip (they weren't a problem inside or at the beach though). All in all, we had a great time there. I will definitely be back in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This place is great. We were here last summer and it just gets better. The boys love the dock out back they can fish all night and I don't have to worry where they are. It is a nice quiet place. The beach is also great not too many people lots of quiet and relaxation time. I would say this is one of the best places we have stayed at. The views from the decks are awesome.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We have 4 small children and really enjoyed this house. There were safety gates on both front and back porches, a playground with a steep slide that became a favorite with the kids (especially after we added a small kids pool at the bottom), and 2 large bins of toys and games. My husband I loved that we could put the babies to bed and bring the monitor to the dock and fish and crab together. Our boys quickly discovered that if they waved at the large boats passing by the captains would sound their horns. So between the boats, toys, fishing, and slide our kids were completely entertained. We took one day and drove into Galveston to visit Moody Gardens and shop a bit, but we all really missed the house.Recommended for: Families with young children.

We wanted to find a place to get away from it all and this is the place. Great location, great view, great condition. We were looking for a nice place to spend a long weekend away from the big city and this house worked out great, plenty of room, great views, great weather. Right across the street from the beach, with the backyard on the inter-coastal canal. Boat dock was nice for fishing. Beach and surf were sooo much better than Galveston, who knew we actually had waves big enough to surf in Texas? Highly recommended!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

While searching for a place to house our family, this seemed to be perfect with two floors and being 3 bedrooms, we chose to rent both floors and upon arrival we quickly saw the description of 3 bedrooms was not accurate. There is one bedroom up and one bedroom down, the downstairs sofa bed would not pull out, it was broken. The upstairs bedroom was dark and literally two beds pushed together without any room in between to step. The air conditioner up over the refrigerator broke during the stay and the lawn edging was 8-10 inches high. We made the best of it and enjoyed the view but the convertible bed does mean a bedroom, it is a 2 bedroom house. the listing is not accurately described, upon asking for details to enter the property, we did not receive those until the morning of departure 1 hr into the drive and waited 3 weeks for a deposit return. Overall we were not satisfied for the money spent and little communication from the owner and would not recommend this property.Owner response: At least the view was enjoyed. This is not just an investment, it is our home that we share with other familes. As with everyone, we interviewed well before booking and fully explained the layout of the home, which was agreed upon. It had a room that was convertable to a bedroom. Now the home is a fixed 3 bedrooms with a room that can be converted to a 4th bedroom. As with any home, things can break. Having not received a call about any problems during their stay, our house keepers advised us about a noncooling a/c on the day of their departure, which I immediately replaced that same day. Thats about the best I can do. Prior to this review, these folks never contacted us about anything, neither during their stay nor following. I am glad everyone else enjoyed themselves over the Summer and regret these folks were not pleased. This our first negative sounding review in over 2 years since we decided to share our home with other families. Hopefully, they will find happiness.

Wonderful, relaxing and comfortable!!! This is a wonderful and casual place that is absolutely perfect for anyone. Our family stayed here for a vacation retreat before my son deploys and it was absolutely the best vacation ever! The house is split for privacy, but easy access. The upper deck is smooth wood and has a gate to close to block the stairs, which was perfect for the 1 year old and 3 year old as they could run around while the grown-ups ate dinner and watched the sunset, without fear of either of them falling on the stairs. We rolled out of bed and hit the beach or fishing off the pier. Never turned the TV on except for the last day while we were sadly packing. John thank you for a wonderful opportunity that will never be forgotten. And look for us to contact you upon my son's return as we would like to make this a yearly family destination spot!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We rented the first floor for the first half of Spring Break. Brought my Dad down from Michigan. We had a great weekend. The owners were upstairs so we finally got to meet them. Great family. The Dad ended up on the couch with a bag of ice on his shin after getting beaned with a baseball by his 12 year old. Kid's got an arm! Took my Dad fishing with Gene Allen, Living Water Charters, out of Sargent. Fished East Matagorday Bay and cleaned up. Caught lots of fish and filled the ice chest with: 10 drum; 7 speckled trout, 3 whiting, 4 redfish and a nice sheepshead. Caught the trout, redfish and whiting drifting live trout over oyster reefs. Caught the drum and sheepshead on dead shrimp. Did not land whatever it was that took off and snapped my line. (Which is one of the reasons I LOVE saltwater fishing.) Also fished off the dock at the house and caught a number of redfish and flounder. They all got released, so you can go catch them again. Used a chartreuse gulp bait and a 1/4 oz. yellow jig with red eyes. The owners are great folks and the house is a great location. If you don't fish, the beach is right out front. We did some shell collecting and drove up the beach past the last house. Where else can you get half a mile off the pavement and have the beach all to yourself?Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We took our kids and my in-laws and had a great time. Long walks on the beach. Beautiful sunsets. Great area for birdwatchers. Caught some nice trout off the dock in the ICW. Also did a day of bayfishing with Capt. Gene and filled an icechest. We tried a couple of local restaurants. Our best meal was the shrimp we bought off the boat. He's on the inland side of the swing bridge, just turn left and follow the signs. Hope you enjoy the view from the bathroom as much as we did!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: The view from the upstairs bathroom, with 10 jet doublewide jacuzzi tub, overlooks the ICW and the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge which is a huge open expanse with miles of view with many different species of birds that fly by. It is one of my favorite places to enjoy pure relaxation. Glad you enjoyed it also.

The house was great and the location was wonderfull! It was clean, well stocked, and well situated close to the beach with the ICW out the back door. We went for the beach but spent more time watching the tugboats and crabbing off the house's dock. Owner was accessable and receptive. The only problem was that there was no washer/dryer when we went (mid June 2010).Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Washer and dryer were taken out to do some work to the home. Both replaced 7-16-10. Thanks
