We call it the Honeymoon Hut, but this little jewel of a guest house can be your waterfront getaway any time you want to unplug and unwind.
Not for the disco divas and party-hearty tourists, we cater instead to people like you: thoughtful, busy people who want the time and place to rest, relax, and rejuvenate themselves. Our guests have come to begin new relationships, celebrate marriages, or just enjoy the healing peace of living a life where time is measured by the sun and sea, and not by calendars and clocks.
What can you do here? Almost anything you want, from walking on quiet beaches and mangrove forests to kayaking, to driving into town for dinner or ice cream. You can wade, windsurf, swim in the sea or in our salt-water pool, or just go searching for shells - we’ll even let you borrow a pail and shovel.
After dark, you can wrap yourself in one of our soft, white robes, and enjoy evening coffee on the deck, while watching the city lights flicker across the water. Later, you can go back inside to your cozy reading nook, and curl up with a favorite novel, or use our free Wi-Fi to check on things in the ‘real’ world, before slipping into the blissful softness of the 400-thread count cotton sheets that adorn your wicker sleigh bed.
In addition to free Wi-Fi, the air conditioned Honeymoon Hut comes with a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious bathroom with plenty of hot water for your shower. Drive into town for dinner, or just buy groceries and cook ‘at home.’ If you’d prefer to picnic, we’ll provide canvas and teak sand chairs, a miniature market umbrella, a cooler for your food, and directions to our favorite beaches.
The neighborhood is surrounded by a federal biological preserve, and the far end of the beach plays host to a research institute. Sixty species of birds, including a pair of Great Horned Owls, make their nests here, and you’ll see osprey and hawks enjoying the wind currents over the house and pool.
Cancellation policy: 30 days and 45 days in December.

Here are some words for you to include as our Review. Feb 18th - 23rd 2009. What a relaxing, and at the same time, exciting stay for us in the Honeymoon Hut. We travelled from snowy and cold Vancouver BC, to look at the La Paz area, and in particular, some property to purchase. The Casita at Susan's was perfect for us! We came and went at our own pace, had all that we needed to be independent, (wireless internet, well equipped kitchen, privacy, view). Susan and her husband are a wealth of local knowledge, from restaurants to beaches to property! We loved it all so much, we purchased some land nearby, and look forward to spending more time in the HoneyMoon Hut as we prepare and plan to build. Leanne and Paul Vancouver, BCRecommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Leanne and Paul, It was totally our pleasure hosting you! And we look forward to having you as neighbors as well. Come back soon! Saludos, Susan

My wife and I stayed at the Honeymoon Hut for a week and enjoyed it immensely. The location was ideal: close enough to La Paz to be convenient but far enough away to feel relaxed and at home. Susan and Ira were the perfect hosts, giving us suggestions and advice about the area. The house was clean and cozy, and we were grateful to have a kitchen to prepare the occasional meal. We would definitely stay at the Honeymoon Hut again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Chris and Addie, We enjoyed getting to know you . And thank you so much for the wonderful fresh caught Dorado! Come back soon. Susan and Ira

Three days before we were scheduled to arrive at the Honeymoon Hut, our eldest daughter informed us that she was scheduled for an intrusive surgery. The news obviously put a damper on our vacation. Our daughter didn’t want us to cancel our trip, as she would need our support in the weeks following her operation. We told Susan and Ira about the situation as we thought we may have to shorten our stay. They were so considerate and compassionate. They offered their toll free phone to keep in touch with our daughter and our other grown children. Ira brought the phone over to us every evening, probably sensing that we were shy about asking to use it. Both Susan and Ira commiserated with us and asked for updates. We really appreciate their compassion and support. In spite of the circumstances, we did enjoy our time at the Honeymoon Hut. The casita was spotless and well equipped for cooking and living. It was quiet, soothing, and we were able to unplug from our daily lives. Our defining memories will be reading while floating on air mattresses in the pool and enjoying an evening glass of wine on the patio overlooking La Paz across the bay. Thank you, Susan and Ira!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We spent 7 days in this nice house near the beach. We found all listed description accurate. The custumer service was perfect. The small house is perfect to relax in the sun, have some undisturbed walkouts, and looking for bird wildlife in the nearby bay. The owners Susan and Ira provided very helpful assistance for tours to grey whale whale watching (3 hour drive to a perfect spot near Puerto Lopez Mateos organized by a local company - breathtaking!!!). Visitors could also go to guided island tours and swimming with shark whales from La Paz, which is only 30-40 minutes drive from there. We recommend this property for those couples who wish to stay in a quiet environment not to far from La Paz and the major attractions of Baja California Sur. La Paz is awesome. There are many things to do in and around the area but you need a car. The owners are super helpful if you need it and they will arrange excursions for you if you wish. Everything about our experience was fantastic, the food, the people, the climate. Whale watching is a must if you are there at the right time. The only thing that we noticed is that the unit itself lacked at little TLC. We would rent here again without a doubt.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Diana, It was wonderful having you here, and it is nice to know that you would come back. We keep the HoneyMoon Hut sparkling clean, and provide everything you could want. But we do ask every guest if there is anything we can do to make it better. You told us everything was fine and that you wished you could stay longer. We look forward to seeing you again, and try to make things as lovely as we would expect.

We spent 2 weeks at the Honeymoon Hut. It was a good place to relax and the owners were friendly and helpful. Property was clean, and for the most part, as advertised. Owner had a health issue which may have affected a few of OUR expectations. We drove out to a variety of beaches, spent a couple of days in La Paz, and then hung around the Casita in the evenings. You need a car; there are no stores in the neighbourhood for groceries (when you run out of coffee - for example - LOL). Be aware that once it gets dark there was not much to do in this subdivision - but we were prepared for this before arriving. Must be why it is called the Honeymoon Hut. :-) We were excited about the pool, and were disappointed to discover that the heater did not function and it was really too cold to swim (down to 14C at night). Had we known the pool was not heated we would have chosen to stay elsewhere.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Evelyn, We enjoyed having you stay with us. And we enjoyed the many chats we had in our living room. We wonder what was not up to your expectations. The Hut has been recently painted, the chairs in the sala and on the terrace were recently recovered, and the pots and pans and glassware recently replaced. The curtains are bright white, and there was always a supply of fresh towels. My leg was in a cast, but I did ask you every few days if everything was alright , you always answered a bright and friendly "yes". We lent you our shell book and bird book and did your laundry. When you pointed out something was not quite right with the shower, the maid was right on it. Our pool is not heated, and you never asked us if it was heated when you made the reservation. We tried to be as accommodating and friendly as we could. We take our hospitality seriously. We do advertise the HoneyMoon Hut as a place to drop out and do nothing. Thank you for staying with us.

We celebrated our 25th Anniversary in La Paz at the Honeymoon Hut. We enjoyed everything so much. Ira and Susan are amazing hosts, they are available to provide almost anything you could want or need and also give you as much privacy as you want. We enjoyed an excursion to swim with the sea lions very much. It was the most amazing thing we have ever done. We enjoyed our quiet time away from the touristy activity when we relaxed here and also enjoyed a day we spent at a beach club/resort in town to get the pampering side of vacation. We made use of their massage therapist and had great massages outside on the patio. Just a note for anyone concerned about the safety of traveling to Mexico. We never once felt unsafe. We rented a car and drove from/to Cabo San Lucas airpport(about 3hr drive). Susan provided excellent directions. We drove into town (La Paz) almost every day. I think if you use common sense and know that you are in a foreign country there is nothing more to be afraid of than in the USA. Also, Mexico's tourism business is hurting due to the bad press lately and everyone was more than friendly and accomadating while we were there, it was obvious that the locals were happy we were there to support their economy. We highly recommend staying here. We also enjoyed being able to cook for ourselves. Everything you would need is provided and the local Walmart made food shopping very easy. Thanks Susan & Ira!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Tim and Norma, It was totally our pleasure having you stay with us and we hope you will cime back again. Kindest Regards, Susan

We recently went to LaPaz & had a terrific time partly because of our choice of places to stay. Honeymoon Hut was clean, modern w/a large pool & right on the beach. You could just relax & stay here or rent a car and go to the downtown area within 15-20 minutes - if you wanted to get around, a car rental would be essential. The owners were gracious & helpful about the nearby community or area sites. Restaurants were terrific & ranged in price. Our Favorites:Secreto - exceptional fusion cuisine (Chilean trained chef) gracious wait staff, pleasant music , (2) il Rustica - romantic with herb garden, fab wait staff & outdoor seating w/birds chirping in the trees& fab food from well prepared pasta, salad & soup dishes to gourmet pizza. Our favorite beach was Balandra. The main street in LaPaz was beautiful - lovely sculptures, friendly people, great seaviews & an array of great places to shop or eat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks G & J! We loved having you stay with us. Hope you will return soon. Susan

Susan and Ira were the perfect hosts. They provided us with worlds of info about the area and never seemed to tire of our questions. They were extremely gracious. Their pretty and immaculate cottage was perfect and contained everything we needed and more. There is the pool and sea with a wonderful beach view out of your window. A perfect, tranquail get-away!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

We were looking for a place to get out of the way and just do as little as we felt like. This quiet little cottage could not have been better. Our host's Susan & Ira were fantastic in every way. They made sure that we had everything needed, including a home made pumpkin pie for thanksgiving. They were mindful that we were on vacation and ensured we had plenty of privacy. They have a great deal of local knowledge and made some excellent suggestions for places to visit and to eat. This cottage sits right on a great little beach where you can enjoy a quiet days reading, or just by the pool and watch the clouds drift by. There are other fabulous beaches within easy driving distance. If you are so inclined there is good SCUBA diving and kayaking especially around the island of Espiritu Santo. If you are a photographer or a birder then this place is excellent with lots of big skies and interesting vistas as well many species of birds. The cottage is well maintained and clean, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, but you will need a car. For the two of us it was just nice to be able to relax here in the peace and quiet and to cook for ourselves in the great little kitchen right inside the cottage. I can't wait to be in the southern Baja again just so that I can return. Thank you Susan & IraRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We try to spoil our guests with little surprises like the pumpkin pies, or some cookie dough for them to bake into cookies. Once we had a visitor that forgot to pack panties. I had just returned from my semi-annual shopping trip in the US and had purchased some panties in the wrong size. so I was able to hand over some pretty panties! We love meeting new people and we adjust to the needs of our guests, if seclusion and privacy is what they need, We stay in the background. If they like to socialize, we are ready to join them.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: My husband and I came to La Paz in 2000 we left Silicon Valley with our hair on fire. My daughter started a poll among our clients to get their opinion of how long I could stay away. No one thought it would be more than 6 months before I returned to the 'action'. Well 9 years later we are still here! We built our dream home on the beach in 2005 which includes the HoneyMoon Hut. We decided to start offering it as a vacation cottage in 2008. Within minutes of listing it we had our first guests who called to say they were coming the next day for 10 days! And we have been very busy ever since. We have guests that return often, and those that plan on returning. Everyone has been a delight, and they have left lovely notes in our guest book.We have made the HoneyMoon Hut a perfect retreat full of the amenities that we often found lacking in our travels: extra pillows for the bed, (you get 6), bedside tables and bedside reading lamps(we provide 2 of each). We make sure you have lots of extra wash cloths, a completely equipped kitchen. the latest issues of the local papers, maps, and guidebooks. We will recommend tours, cafes, restaurants, and help make reservations for you. I write for many print and electronic magazines and have a blog that my gusts say they love to read. My husband is the science editor at the biological research agency at the end of our beach. He walks to work along the beach, and walks home for lunch.
Why the Owner Chose La Paz:
We were already living in El Comitan when we sold our first house and moved two blocks and a world away and built on the beach. La Paz is a Mexican town, the home of eco-tourism. It has a slow, peaceful pace. A lovely malecon, fine dining, espresso shops, a 15 screen theater, and lots of gorgeous crystal clear waters for snorkeling and diving We are surrounded by a biological preserve, and have a gorgeous, ever changing view of the sea and La Paz,especially the city lights. When we walk the beaches, we walk in the footsteps of Jacques Cousteau.
When you come to the HoneyMoon Hut you are visiting our home. You will have all of the privacy you want. We are here to make your stay perfect. We want to share the special beauty of La Paz with as many people as we can.
