Bayside Beach House, an Exquisite Ocean Front Retreat!
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Courtenay
We chose the charming hamlet of historic Union Bay for our Bayside Beach House because it is so convenient to urban amenities in nearby Courtenay/Comox, and we were drawn to the artisan community in the Comox Valley, which was designated one of seven Cultural Capitals of Canada in 2007.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We pride ourselves on having thought of everything a vacationer could possibly want, from the most comfortable linens, beds and couches, to a flat screen TV and full sound system, to a fully equipped kitchen and large harvest dining table. These are the things we enjoy when we stay at our property, just the two of us or with friends and family.
We also love outdoor space you can use to the fullest no matter what the weather’s like, which is why we put in the expansive brick patio with its barbeque, built a cabana complete with hot tub, outdoor shower, and chandelier, and created two beach bonfire pits and put a brick barbeque down on the beach as well. There’s also a little herb garden for cooks to use. No wonder our guests find the Bayside Beach House as irresistible as we do.
A less than five-minute walk down the road from the Bayside Beach House. You can buy groceries here, or else stop for a coffee in the cafe. There's also a liquor store inside.
A ten-minute walk from the Bayside Beach House. Stop in for a drink at the bar, or one of the Highwayman's famous dinners.
Owner's Map of Courtenay
We first fell in love with our beach house on Baynes Sound in 2006 and, over the course of two years, transformed it into the elegant oceanfront vacation home of our dreams.
We met in Montreal in 2003. Robin was from West Vancouver, a marketing director for Clinique skin care and cosmetics with a background in art and interior design. She designed home interiors and two restaurants on the mainland. Pierre, originally trained as a professional carpenter, was a fixture in Montreal’s film industry for his expertise in special effects. We were married in Vancouver in 2004 and moved to Union Bay shortly after.
Robin had travelled extensively during her 20 years with Clinique, and the time she spent staying in top hotels has informed her design expertise. Pierre’s skill and eye for detail was honed over many years of building things that needed to be just so. Together, we have a penchant for creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
Most of the materials used in the beach house’s renovation were refurbished and reused, such as the gorgeous floor boards, salvaged from the walls of an old barn on the Island and refinished to a honeyed gleam by Pierre. Patio bricks are recycled from a house in Courtenay torn down by Habitat for Humanity. The result is not only environmentally conscious, but gives the beach house an elegant old world charm, while offering all the modern conveniences.
We invite you to come and enjoy our beach house paradise. We know that you will love it as much as we - and all of our guests - do.

We had read that most people wish they could have stayed longer. Include us in that group. What an idealic setting with a house that has been restored to perfection. It helps that the owner is an interior decorator and it shows. From the courtyard with a dart board and dining tables to the fantastic oversized gazebo and hot tub with outdoor shower the place is amazing. Clams and oysters at our doorstep a plenty made for a fantastic feast. We can promise all who stay will not be disappointed.

It’s rare to find a vacation place where the interior is as gorgeous as the exterior setting, but the Beach House is that rare exception. The sweet interior is decorated in watery blues & greens in what could best be described as French country/beach house. Everything you could possibly need is there for you: kitchen tools, games, DVDs, robes, flashlights, area guides, and popsicle molds! The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed so that there’s room for everyone to be together or to have their own area. And the outdoors is simply incredible! Watch the eagle perched in his tree, hot tub, outdoor shower on the deck (FABULOUS!), explore the beach, harvest oysters, have a beach fire, or sit on the clematis-surrounded hidden bench. Your toughest decision will be which of the many many gorgeous photos you’ll choose to put into your album. Heaven.

I have been many places and I must say ...... this was one of my most favorite!! The Beach House was all that and more! Allowing your stay to be of the most elegant and comfy spots. One can not go wrong if they pick the Beach house. My family and I had time to enjoy what makes hard work come to a halt and benifit all the amineties Robin and Pierre provide to make a vacation wonderful. There is much to do, but most of all enjoying the Beach house was my favorite spot. Sitting on the deck watching the neighbor "a bald eagle". Having fun finding treasures on the beach along with discovering the most beautiful rocks. I could go on and on but one should just book it and then they will really know what I mean! I know money can't buy you happiness but my kids and I said it sure helps to have such a wonderful memory deep in our hearts. They know the true benifits of life. Thank you Robin & Pierre for thinking of everything you could possibly need for such a wonderful stay in your home. Andrea, Billy, & Jacqueline from Ohio

My family has searched high and low for the perfect spot for a family reunion, we found it! Robin and Pierre have created a most comfortable place where 8 adults can gather and not feel like we need more room. There is more than enough space for all to be comfy. There is no detail gone unnoticed. It has amazing amenities that make you feel like you're in the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, or Four Seasons hotels, but better. I can say enough great things about it! We'll definitely be back, without question. Thank you both for such an amazing place!

The Bayside BH is easily one of the most beautiful places on the planet! We were fortunate enough to have recently celebrated my sister's wedding on the front lawn overlooking the ocean. It was a small intimate setting with family and the beach house provided the perfect setting. I haven't had the luxury of staying there yet but it is definitely on my list for an upcoming trip to the Courtenay/Comox area. Robin & Pierre have thought of every detail.

When my husband Scott and I decided we wanted a small intimate wedding with our immediate family we knew it had to be at one of my favourite spots anywhere- The Bayside Beachhouse! I must start off mentioning that the pictures, although accurately portraying the detail, do not give this place justice, as you must stand in the middle of the room to begin to take it all in. During our stay I’d open a drawer in the bathroom, open up the closet under the stairs, or walk into the laundry room and realize that every inch of the place is thought out to create functional charm. On the eve of my wedding my maid of honour and I both had spacious rooms over looking the water. When I woke up Saturday morning we had coffee and our breakfast on the front lawn as the water loomed around the rocks 5 feet from us. Our decorations consisted of white roses as we didn't want to take away from the incredible decorating and detailing in every nook and cranny of the cottage--every time I turn around I seem to spot something I haven't noticed before, the detailing in this place is magnificent. Our "honeymoon suite" bedroom consisted of a comfy king size bed in a spacious room, which still remains cozy and charming overlooking the water—we enjoyed this with champagne we had chilled in the mini-bar beside our bed. Even at night the dark ocean is lit up below when the tide is in, visibly crashing against the rocks. Robin and Pierre - our experience was perfect. When the storm hit on Friday I knew that as long as I could get from the car to the back door with my hair-style not blowing to shambles the next day would remain wonderful as the storm-watching from your cottage would have created a romantic setting inside. Although I am happy the sun came out Saturday:) Your customer service and accessibility relaxed me on the day before the wedding - here it is storming with wind blowing ever direction it seemed as we drove towards the Beach House; and we arrive to Robin's smiling face, both cleaning up the blowing debris, Pierre on the Beach putting the rocks back on the beach bar-be-que pit. Whatever I needed Robin and Pierre were going to make sure our Beach House experience was fabulous! I hope to send you pictures and maybe Scott and my wedding shots will make it onto your website? Thanks again for creating such a wonderful spot for our special day! PS - I didn't even get into the experience of sitting in your hot tub after a hot shower overlooking the water! Paradise!

Was fortunate to attend a family wedding at the Bayside Beach House. Truly magnificent. Union Bay location is wonderful - 20 minutes south of Courtenay, 25 minutes to Cumberland, and 40 minutes to the lifts at Mt Washington. The beach house was an amazing location for a small and intimate wedding ceremony and celebration. Beautifully refurbished and immaculate property right on the water. The dart board and hot tub are both nice touches, and the generous space inside is warm and inviting. Awesome place from which to stage, to stay, to see, or to simply relax and unwind.

We have just recently returned from our stay at the Bayside Beach House and we miss it already. From the early morning visits of the resident blue heron on the beach, to the coziness of the crackling fire before snuggling into bed under that gorgeous duvet, our days were full of options of places to visit and things to do. Fresh seafood was readily available to cook up on the bbq or fully equipped kitchen. Pierre and Robin's attention to detail is remarkable. Everything one could ever want is there, including privacy. Even an herb garden in the back yard was a loving touch. Thank you Robin and Pierre for a superb "get away." Wonderful hosts. Highly recommended.
