2 Adults, 3 teenagers- it was a perfect stay. At first, the surf feels like a drumbeat, within an hour, it is like your heartbeat. Never slept better. The pool is fantastic. We all swam laps. The house and bedrooms are great and the grounds beautiful. Be sure to ask for Tony to do your cooking. His meals were all fresh, creative, filling and he is highly informative and a lot of fun. We had a strict vegetarian in our group and he was flexible. Be sure to accompany him shopping. Rent a car. We travelled all over: to Escondido, for surfing lessons, on eco-tours (we helped release tiny baby turtles into the surf). Lots to do in Escondido and Tony (or Nina) can steer you to some great restaurants. Also, for teens, the house is completely online. A fabulous way to spend a restful, interesting weekend with loads of great family time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The house is located directly on the beach. We woke up to sounds of the ocean and a view every morning. The town is about 10 minute drive with a excellent selection of local produce. With good company, the beach, a pool, and internet not many reasons to leave the house. Highly recommend this house!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It was our pleasure to have stayed at Casa Tres Azules for two weeks in January. The weather was perfect and the tropical setting made us feel as though we were on an island in the South Pacific. The home was as beautiful as the setting and had every modern convenience you could wish for, including wireless connectivity for computers and tablets and satellite TV. However being connected was incidental to our reason for vacationing there. We wanted to enjoy authentic Mexican culture and a tropical coastal setting. We were not disappointed. The home is located on the beach and the sound of the surf is ever present. Long walks on the seemingly endless beach in the early morning and at sunset were magical. Wild life is abundant, with whale and dolphin sitings a common occurrance. There was a wide variety of bird life that were both beautiful and entertaining. Of particular interest were the large flocks of pelicans that cruised just above the surf and could be seen diving for fish. The area is a nesting spot for sea turtles and tracks in the sand could be seen where they came ashore to lay their eggs. The beaches to the north in and around Puerto Escondido were beautiful, affording surfing, snorkeling scuba diving, fishing and just plain relaxing in the sand. The town itself is very interesting. The people are very friendly an there are a variety of good restaurants. Shopping at the local market, which is home to a large number of small sea food, meat and produce vendors, was one of the high lights of our trip. It is a great place to get really fresh items and see how the locals purchase their food. There is a beautiful back drop of the Sierra Madre Mountains just to the east. We hope to return to this fascinating place one day soon and when we do we hope to visit some of the water falls and other points of interest in those mountains.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful stay, and look forward to coming again! The home itself is beautiful, but the miles of almost empty beach just a few dozen yards from the house, the near perfect weather, and amenities made it even more special for my family. Combined with a well maintained pool just steps from the bedroom and main house doors, we never lacked for a perfect spot in the sun, or a relaxing dip in the pool or ocean to cool off! I can't say enough about the high quality of the home itself, with tile floors, granite countertops, even a/c in the bedrooms (not much need for it, but nice to have in case, we only used it once!) along with all the electronic gadgetry the modern family needs. We all stayed in separate casita's each with a king sized bed, built in couch and full large bathroom. Wifi worked well and trouble free throughout the house, with a 50 inch TV (again we only watched TV once, for the Super Bowl) placed in a "media" room that seats eight easily (and sleeps up to three if need be) with hundreds of channels (many in english including ESPN, golf channel, cnn and many more), and connected blue ray player. The provided google phone allowed for easy calling to and from the US and easy local calling. Nice to be able to always be in touch with family at home and on those thankfully rare occasions for us, work. While we spent the vast majority of our time at Casa Tres Azules, we did spend a day in town. The town of Puerto Escondido is a funky cool beach town with many hidden gems throughout. Even things like sitting outside the local minimart "Super Mini 69" (in the Rinconada neighborhood) sipping a beer and smoking cuban cigars on the patio was relaxing fun. The beaches were picturesque, Playa Zicatella lined with beach bars, a wide sandy beach and water better left to strong swimmers and surfers. Manzanillo beach is protected and relaxing, with many places to sit and be served beverages. We had one dinner in town at the Espadin restaurant at the Villas Carrizalillo hotel overlooking Carrizalillo beach. Don't be taken aback by the dirt road leading to the hotel, it is very upscale and the food and view are outstanding! Overall the entire experience was excellent, care free and highly recommended!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We rented this house to spend Christmas and New Year together the whole family. The house is nice, but it is a pity it has not services like T.V, telephone, internet and basics to enjoy holidays. Lots of houses for rent in Puerto with much better services.Owner response: We apologize for the inconvenience but the phone and internet did work. They are correct about the Sky account, which has been repaired following damage from the hurricane. They had trouble with the phone, and the router needed to be reset by turning on and off. We could tell they did not know how to use the Google phone and had a Telcel phone purchased immediately. The Google phone permits call free to/from the United States and Canada, and we pay for the calls to/from Mexico but they require that the user call as if he/she were in the United States. Otherwise, the Google phone looks and acts like any phone in the US.

One of my favorite things about this house is how open and beachy it feels. Everywhere you are in the house, the waves are crashing in the background. It's so calming. I stayed in the house for two weeks in one of the guest rooms, which are quite large and comfortable. (The master bedroom is incredible, too - it's on the 2nd floor and you can see miles of beaches.) The house seems very new - the place feels very clean and modern. Because of the location, there's almost always a nice breeze (which also means very few bugs). There are a lot of great beaches to explore in town, too - and friendly locals who will teach you to surf or take you out on a trip to a local sanctuary. Great restaurants, too. Can't wait to come back soon!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I was fortunate to stay in Tres Azules for a few weeks this summer with some friends and will never forget the experience. The house has a main bedroom upstairs with a nice private deck facing the ocean, and three bedrooms on the ground floor, each with its own bathroom and outdoor access to the pool area. So no matter which room you're in, you have a sense of privacy. The layout of the house makes great use of its beach views, with windows facing the Pacific so you always feel close to the surf even when you're cooking dinner, relaxing in the den, or sitting by the pool. The kitchen was big, open, modern, and great for social cooking. We cooked almost every night with fresh ingredients picked up at the local market (which is amazing). The beach is just a few steps away from the house. It's my favorite kind of beach -- big surf, driftwood, always changing, a little wild. It's a bit intense for kids, but there are lots of gorgeous kid-friendly coves in Puerto Escondido, which is a short drive away. And the pool is a great option for an evening or morning no-hassle dip. Wonderful place to stay -- I'd love to come back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Just spent 10 days in paradise with a group of friends from Alaska. Toni your house was perfect in every way!! The secluded white sand beach, which we had mostly to ourselves, was beautiful. Shelling, wave riding and skim boarding awesome. The pool was heaven on earth, making those HOT days bearable. The sunsets from the palapa's were outstanding. Casa Tres Azul was truly peaceful and relaxing. Falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing is the best lullaby ever! Julio was very kind and helpful. He even spent time with my four year old friend, teaching him Spanish words! Thank you for sharing your piece of pardise with a bunch of sun deprived Alaskans.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2012
About the owner: The Kinsella/James family lives in Washington, DC. We have three daughters. Edgar James is an attorney and Katherine Kinsella is in advertising. We saw this property, fell in love with it, and purchased it in June 2012. We will continue to rent the property in the future, even after we retire here part of the year.
Why the Owner Chose Puerto Escondido:
Casa Tres Azules is totally private with a twelve mile beach in our front yard and easy access to Puerto Escondido, which is a very special place for those who want to be in an authentic, small Mexican city with great restaurants, people and things to do.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
At our home we spend the days on the beach walking, swimming laps in our crystal clear pool, having cocktail sunsets and BBQ's. The deep sea fishing out of Puerto is extraordinary, we catch Marlin, Dorado and other assorted fish. The Ponga fleet is really cheap for fishing excursions. Our home is very comfortable including all pillow-top beds that our guests say are the more comfortable than home. We have high speed wireless internet, a google phone with free calls to and from the US and Canada, and satellite TV with hundreds of channels. Town is eight miles away which keeps it very quiet. We are in a secure, gated small community of only twelve homes. There are many great restaurants in town and a really nice new super market, not to mention the Mercado featuring local merchants which is a must see.
