Absolutely perfect in every way. Beautifully updated interior, bright, spacious and well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, great views, large deck, and very attentive owners who, although living elsewhere, were very responsive to inquiries. My only regret is that this property is in the process of being sold and my understanding is that it will no longer be available as a vacation rental. If I am wrong about this I will definitely return next year. If it is not available I hope we will be successful in finding another property through VRBO for future visits. We have family in Ventura and would love to return for an extended visit and escape the New England winter, as we did this year!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owners were both accurate and most helpful in preparing us for the rental. Since we traveled a long way, this was especially important. Also, the follow-up with them was very good; we had access whenever we needed it. The property photos were extremely true to life. The plantings, well tended, plus the view make working in the kitchen and the office a treat! Palms, gorgeous yellow hibiscus, blue skies! I would recommend this rental to others. It is a home to take care of as if it were your own, and it repays a good job in this regard. Everything is provided to make such care easy. It is a nice place to which to bring friends. Activities and so forth were not a concern, for I was returning to my hometown. Since it is less than an hour to both Santa Barbara to the north and Westlake Village to the south, restaurants and shops in those areas could be included in the promotion. Part of my joy in going home is taking the ride (frequently) from Santa Barbara back to Ventura--views worth the whole vacation! My favorite grocery: Gelson's in Santa Barbara; they will even ice your meat for the trip back to Ventura! Von's on Thompson is best for breads, Ralph's for much else. I do highly recommend the public market, particularly the Saturday morning one near the old Mission. And pay attention to what the farmers tell you; they are very knowledgeable. A word about the weather: It lived up to my happy memories of Ventura and satisfied my husband, who acquired a tan while enjoying the large deck. While the San Fernando Valley roasted in the 90's and 100's, Ventura never went above the low 80's with cooling ocean breezes both morning and evening. Carmageddon was no problem; that's the occasional disruptive work on the 405 affecting L.A. and the Valley. There's not a lot that man can do to ruin old Ventura, situated as it is between the foothills and the sea. Though the shop names change, I can still recognize it as home. An unusual blessing. People from out of state with any delicate constitution perhaps should drink bottled water--as do most old Ventura natives like myself whom I know. The owners do have a filtered faucet, however, that many may find sufficient. I had to move away from California before I learned (as a kid) that drinking water could actually come from a tap! Many thanks and kudos to these responsible and friendly owners for a most rewarding vacation! May they hang onto this property for a long time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

We live at 9000 feet in the Rocky Mountains and desperately needed a warm, sunny vacation. We have 2 teenagers that needed their own space and found the rental property was larger than expected. The outdoor space was a real bonus and we spent every morning enjoying coffee and fresh farmers market fruit on the deck. Evenings we watched the sunset from the same deck while enjoying a glass of California wine. The owners included a list of their favorite places to eat and play. We used their recommendations and had a marvelous time. We hiked, biked, boated, beached, ate, shopped and had a fabulous vacation. The location of the home is on a quiet street with beautiful views of Ventura, the ocean and islands beyond, with open space and hiking right out the back door. I can't say enough wonderful things about the home, the owners and our experience. The only down side was the week went by too fast and we had to return to the snow and cold of the Rockies. We hope to repeat our adventure in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I rented this house for one month and shared it part of the time with family and friends. We all were escaping cold winter weather. Everything about this house, grounds, and location was paradise! The home is lovely -- with beautifully tiled bathrooms, hardwood floors, novel and tasteful fixtures, and comfortable furniture. The outside is wonderfully quiet and filled with lovely, colorful plants, butterflies, humming birds, etc. It's a lovely place just to sit and read in the sun or use the barbecue and eat outside. It's also very well maintained -- I saw the gardener twice while I was here. It's up high enough so it's out of the fog belt, but not so high that I wasn't able to bicycle into old downtown every day. Great location. I'm not clear what the below review is talking about. The house is a two bedroom, with one queen bed and one twin that is a day bed. The website clearly says so. When I arrive the place was immaculate. There were no stains on any of the furniture. I loved the glass block windows in the living room. Those windows only look out onto the driveway and some bushes. They gave great light during the day and privacy at night. Jennifer and Tom could not have been more helpful. They answered emails promptly and even arranged that I could come a day early to avoid an incoming snow storm at home. The neighbors, Mark and Mia are great. The last thing my brother and sister-in-law said when I dropped them at the airport was "You're going to book this house for next winter, right?" Right.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We booked this place for one month, The placed was listed as 2 bedrooms. It was not a cottage but a duplex. To our understanding it meant two bedrooms complete, however that was not the case for this place. It has only one small bedroom with not place for hardly moving around. The bedspread on this double bed was so hard to keep on place because it is not a proper bedspread but a cover for a light blanket. The second bedroom was an office and contained a day bed with a very hard cushion to seat on it or rest, which we could not use because it is very hard. The owners' offered alternatives, but that is not the point we did not book a one month vacation so that we can spend the time trying to find a better way to accommodate ourselves. The bedroom fire alarmed was going on in the middle of the night, and the owners response was to buy the batteries and they will refund us for the expenses. There was not toilet paper in the bathroom either. We rented a two bedroom house because we have trouble sleeping on the same bedroom due to one of us snoring. The owner's response was to used the day bed or to sleep in the living-room since the couch had a hidden-bed. The couches have spots all over the covers, one of the covers was not on and the response from the owners was that it was left in the laundry and to put in the dryer for them. We felt more like care takers. The location of this place is nice and it suited our hobbies, but the atmosphere is stuffy . The windows faces the back of the duplex where the view of the far away ocean is barely located with our vernaculars and the front of the duplex has two windows which are covered with a double glass so there is not light or view at all. This place is overpriced for what it offers and needs to be care properly before renting it again. In summary, the location was perfect but the place was not what we expected.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners.
Owner response: In response to this review: It's a duplex not a cottage - that's true and that's how we advertise it. There are two bedrooms - look at the photos and judge for yourself - they're the same photos that were available when these travelers rented the property. We did everything we could to please these people including offering to send over a repairman to address their concerns or to refund the cost for their time remaining on the rental. They chose to stay and complain. We work very hard to maintain our property and to keep our guests happy. The property is now fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, etc. as well as new fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. We feel, as have our previous guests, that it is a great place at a very competitive price. Please read the rest of the reviews on the website, look a the photos, and judge for yourself.

This hillside Ventura home was perfect for our "stay-cation" in So Cal with our two cats. Hubby loved the outdoor grill since we don't have one back home. I loved the private and spacious sun deck since it was a bit chilly during our stay to sunbathe on the beach. Very quite neighborhood. I love the skylights in the bathrooms and kitchen. The ceiling fans were quite and perfect when it was a little stuffy at times. Laundry access was nice and the kitchen fully stocked with all needed to cook meals. TV screen is small but the delightful surround-sound is wonderful. Downtown shopping is quaint, some good personal and home decorative finds at B on Main and Ciao Bella. Owners VERY responsive! Thanks Tom and Jennifer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We're always happy to see someone review our property in Ventura. It really is a great place!

We were lucky enough to spend the month of July in this wonderful rental....it is located on the hill overlooking the city with glimpses of the ocean....the deck is awesome and huge. We loved laying in the beautiful brass bed with the french doors open experiencing Ventura's nice cool weather. The owners did a great job decorating and stocking the place -from the kitchen to the bathroom towels to the bar b que out on the deck. It was convenient to the beach and town....and a romantic, fun place to spend the month. The owners couldn't have been easier to deal with and you could feel that they put a lot of love and care into the place. We are hoping to go back again.Did you find this review helpful? My husband and I and our dog stayed here while our house was being finished, and the accommodations are amazing! This was so much more than we expected from a vacation rental. It was clean, nicely decorated and had every amenity of home, and then some. The location is perfect, near downtown. We really enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to everyone. Thanks Tom and Jennifer!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
