Comfortable Chalet In Great Location

Guest: Bren (UK)
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/19/11

Some of the photos of the interior of this lovely chalet do not do it justice. In reality, the living room for example, is large, cool on a hot day with huge windows and there is a cosy, comfortable yet sophisticated feeling about the rooms. Lana has given the house a delightful ‘lived in look’ with lots of pleasing ornaments, furniture, pictures and books. It gives the impression of staying in someone’s house rather than a vacation home – something that can be quite rare in holiday homes. The master bedroom is large, quite dark but with a very comfortable king sized bed and the upstairs queen-bedded room has an old world charm along with a convenient toilet and wash basin. It is reached however, by a spiral staircase which some infirm people may find difficult. If you plan to do a lot of cooking, you may find the kitchen a little bit small but on the other hand, if you are lucky, you may be very privileged to catch an enchanting glimpse of a tiny humming bird feeding from the scarlet geraniums just outside the window! The property is blissfully quiet at night and within easy reach of the Mesa Verde National Park which should not be missed. The ruins and museum at Aztec, just over the border into New Mexico, are also worth a relaxed day trip. Durango is a pleasant town, with an animated an attractive centre and some lovely houses in the leafy suburbs. The famous steam train that puffs its way through the middle of town in the valley opposite the chalet, is another charming and unusual feature of this property. You can hear and look forward to, the distant, mournful wail of the whistle so reminiscent of childhood cowboy films as it slowly makes its way up through the mountains to Silverton!

Owner response:Hi Brenda, Thanks for the wonderful review. The Chalet is a pretty special home and I'm glad you were able to stay with us while visiting the states. Next time you jump across the pond please keep all of our homes in mind! Kind Regards, Lana

This chalet is the third 'Lana House' that we have stayed in - and it is our favorite. The quiet, cool seclusion is such a treat after Arizona! Here's what we learned this trip-J-Bo's makes awesome pizza-(and they deliver!) I had hoped to see a bear- but only saw a beautiful buck. We'll be back next year!

Loved the place! Very quiet and secluded yet so close to town. Thought there were only 4 towels but found more in the closet. This is exactly what we needed.

The chalet had all the comforts of home. We loved watching the rock climbers and especially enjoyed the outdoor deck for reading and conversation. The location was perfect- a great week visiting our son. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

Wow! What an awesome home! We will definitly be back! The house is set perfectly up against the forest and was peaceful as can be. We took a few hikes in the back and saw some wildlife on the country road. we loved the way the house was decorated and it had so many comfortabl features. Thank you so much for a great place to vacation.
