Fantastic Stay in Yellowstone!

Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/29/12

My friends and I stayed at the Barn on the Banks for a long weekend of cross-country skiing in Yellowstone and soaking in the Boiling River. The Barn is a fantastic place to stay! The owners are very nice and considerate. The Barn has a well stocked kitchen, plenty of towels, bathroom items, and even a washer and drier! The beds were super comfortable, and even the pull out couch was nice place to sleep. The Barn is very cozy, warm, and well maintained. It has great views of the park entrance and the Gardiner River, and it is easy to find. It is a great jumping off location for adventures in Yellowstone.

Our family of five stayed at the Barn on the Banks for three nights over Thanksgiving and we were incredibly comfortable and cozy warm. We loved the beautiful vintage country decorating and were amazed by the gorgeous views out of our window - we even saw some big horn sheep across the river with the binoculars they provided for such an occasion! Anything you need is available and the hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating. We would rate it higher if we could! We will definitely come back again!

Great Place to Stay

Stayed at Barn On The Banks with family and friends the end of September. The Barn accommodations were super great and the location was perfect. Linda and Ken went out of their way to make us feel at home. They gave us apples they picked out of their yard which one of the ladies traveling with us used to make a couple of pies for dessert. Everything that was needed to prepare meals was readily available. The barn is decorated in an antique decor of chickens, cows and pigs, really neat. The view from the deck was beautiful. One of the couples traveling with us hiked a trail down along the river below the Barn and saw a moose jump in the river and take a swim. We saw elk in a valley behind the house and heard them bugling at night. We would definitely recommend the Barn for anyone traveling in the Yellowstone area.

Owner response:Spotted Moose Splashing. Thank you very much for choosing to stay at the "Barn on the Banks of Yellowstone". We really enjoyed meeting all of you and hearing about your day's adventures....especially delightful, was the siting of the moose taking a swim in the Yellowstone River below the Barn! So glad to hear you enjoyed the eclectic country decor. Many of the re-purposed items are "treasures" from our childhood.... ranch life in "Cow" country. We hope to see you again soon. :)Linda Owner Submitted Review

Absolutely charming - the Barn AND the owners! The decor is eclectic country with many items being re-purposed from their original use. There are too many things to list that make the Barn a wonderful place. You will just have to check it out for yourself to see. Thanks, Ken and Linda, for being so welcoming and for providing a beautiful place for us to stay in.

We had a wonderful time visiting Yellowstone and staying at the Barn on the Banks. The house is beautiful and very well stocked with whatever you might need. The kids loved watching the elk come right up to the house. It was so easy to get into the park from the house and the town of Gardiner had everything we could ask for during our stay. Ken and Linda were very nice and you could really tell that they enjoyed creating this lovely vacation home. Our group had 3 adults and 5 kids and we had plenty of space. I highly recommend the Barn on the Banks when visiting Yellowstone.

We were fortunate to spend 2 wonderful weeks with several different family members that came at different times. Such a great place to have a meeting of Florida, Indiana and Nebraska families. The accommodations are the best. Ken and Linda are wonderful about helping with any of our needs. Their suggestions of things to do was very helpful. We enjoyed meals on the deck looking over the beautiful Yellowstone River and up at the magnificent mountains.

Date of Stay: 06/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/28/11

We had a great time visiting Yellowstone NP and "The Barn on the Banks" made the trip even more enjoyable. We had 5 adults and three kids in our group and the house was very spacious and comfortable for all of us during our stay. Linda was so nice and accomodative to our family. While visiting Yellowstone we saw 15 bears during the week and many many Bison and elk with babies. We also saw coyote, sheep and pronhorn. The only animal that we didn't get to see was moose. Gardiner is a great base from which to visit the park and the town has all the conveniences that you need. There are few restaurants in town, but the ones that are there have great food. Most of the evenings we cooked out at the house anyway as it is just a pleasure to cook while viewing the wonderful scenery from the deck of the house. All in all, I would rate this a 5+ and it would be my first choice when we return to Yellowstone for another visit.

While visiting Barn on the Banks we watched an elk calf born across the river through our spotting scope. We watched birds everyday and enjoyed seeing mule deer in the front yard below the deck. The accommodations were great, and it was comforting to know Linda and Ken were next door to answer any questions we might have. We found everything we needed in Gardiner which was a short walk from the Barn. Our family visits Yellowstone every year, and will definitely be returning to The Barn on The Banks!

Very upscale and immaculate. This place is a gem and more than worth it. The location was absolutely perfect. Peace and quiet right across the river from Yellowstone with a beautiful elevated view. We could sit on the front deck or walk down to private river access just below us for wildlife viewing or fishing. Beds very comfortable with three gas fireplace heaters and elegant accomodations.

If I could give this wonderful place 10 stars, I would. Don't let the name "Barn" on The Banks fool you. I have never experienced such comfort and luxury in a barn. The furnishings are elegant, yet comfortable. Linda and Ken have put so many extra caring touches everywhere. Everything you may need is at your fingertips, but there's so much more. Fishing poles for the kids, binoculars to examine abundant wildlife, books about Yellowstone and the area, etc., etc., etc.. There's even a picnic basket, for those of us that like to have a "picinic with Yogi and Bubu in Jellystone Park". Thank you Ken and Linda.

Winter in Yellowstone

Guest: Stephanie (Spokane, Washington)
Date of Stay: 12/27/10 Review Submitted: 01/04/11

Our stay at the Barn on the Banks of Yellowstone National Park (RedBarn) was great! The special touches made by Linda and Ken made our stay all the more special. The kitchen was well appointed with a great coffee maker and plenty of supplies as we cooked all of our meals in the RedBarn. The kids loved the “new” toys and games and the adults enjoyed viewing the wildlife from the big windows without needing to go outside (it was cold outside). Linda even had binoculars for us to use! Inside was warm and comfortable and with gas fireplaces in two of the bedrooms, it was wonderful to just switch them on each morning or evening while relaxing in bed. We also admired the creative use of antiques throughout the Barn. The location of the RedBarn to the Park entrance was great. Winter in Yellowstone is amazing, with lots of wildlife activity. We saw elk, bison, big horn sheep, coyotes and fox. We also enjoyed a dip in the Boiling River with the outside temperature at 29F. We highly recommend the RedBarn when considering a stay in Gardiner.

Could not have been more perfect!

Date of Stay: 10/04/10 Review Submitted: 01/17/11

The location of Barn on the Banks is absolutely perfect. At the end of a quiet street on a hilltop overlooking the Yellowstone River and into the Park itself, we enjoyed watching elk, big horn sheep, deer, and antelope from the convenience of the back deck! Just out the back door and down the hill, the trout fishing in the river is excellent. The views of Electric Peak were awesome too! Accessing Yellowstone through Gardiner and the north entrance is unquestionably the best approach for convenience, scenery, wildlife, fishing, and river rafting. We've been to Yellowstone many times over many years (I worked in the Park one summer when in college), and for us, the northern half of the park is by far the most beautiful and special. You've GOT to see Lamar River Valley! "The Barn" itself is the warmest and coziest of accommodations, decorated really well with a true Montana feel, and with all the amenities to make you feel at home. We hiked alot, and left a roast in the crock pot slow simmering all day several days, and WOW how great that was returning after a day in the wilderness, hungry and tired, to such wonderful smells and dinner ready for the taking. What really makes The Barn so special though is Ken and Linda. What gracious, kind people who truly have a gift of hospitality! We've rented through VRBO many times, all over the world including France and Switzerland, and we've always had good experiences. But no where we've stayed compares with The Barn. There's no question that we will stay at The Barn on our next trip to Yellowstone.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Barn on the Banks. Linda and Ken are gracious hosts and thought of everything! The barn was tastefully furnished with high quality appliances and the beds were very comfortable. Our family enjoyed the magnificent view from the deck and often had deer come right up close to the house. The location is so close to Yellowstone Park North entrance. During our stay we ventured into the park every day and saw almost every animal possible: antelope, buffalo, bears (both black and grizzly), Elk (these are ever present at the town of Mammoth but also were right on White lane most days just a block from the barn), bighorn sheep, wolves, coyotes, mule deer, moose and eagles. Ken and Linda tipped us off on a great place for catching fish and also a nearby place to soak in a hot spring. Of course we also were able to visit Old Faithful and the Canyon falls area. My teenager was thrilled there was wifi available. Being from the south, I was pleasantly surprised at how cozy the house was - they definitely did a great job insulating when they converted the barn. The kids loved to lay with their feet by the fireplace. Our crew also enjoyed a wonderful day horseback riding. I would definitely recommend the Barn on the Banks to others!

Barn on the Banks was the perfect place to see Montana and Yellowstone. The view was spectacular, the accomodations new, the decorating homey and wonderful. And the fishing was great if you can negotiate the hill. Ken and Linda were the perfect hosts. In short, it's hard to imagine anything better.

This home is very comfortable and the owners have truly thought of everything! 9 of us stayed there and there was hot water for us all. Kitchen is well equiped, bathrooms well stocked with towels, comfortable beds and great view! We saw 2 moose, some elk and Bighorn Sheep (through their spotting scope) from the deck. My son enjoyed fishing by the river. There is a trail down to the river but not for the faint of heart. Definitely God's Country!

Owner response:Early one morning as we were sipping a cup of coffee on our deck,we witnessed a most unusual site... 2 MOOSE, a bull & a cow, were trotting near the North Gate Entrance, they headed into Gardiner for a quick look-a-round before heading back toward Mammoth,..... could it be they also were in search of a cup of coffee? We frequently see Antelope, Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Coyotes, an occasional Wolf pack, a small band of Mountain Goats on Electric Peak, but....In the 30 plus years we have lived here, seeing a moose from our deck was a first for us!

My family stayed here in June 2010. The location is breathtaking and very convenient for traveling in & out of Yellowstone. The place is very new and decorated in a cool barn style and stocked with all conveniences. The beds are awesome. The view of the mountains and the rivers from the deck is amazing. The owners are nearby and very helpful for advice on Yellowstone and other nearby areas. The town of Gardiner which is a 2 minute drive or a 5-10 minute walk has several restaurants, bars and outfitters for rafting, canoeing, horseback riding etc. There is also a local fishing tack store which can give you advice on where to fish and what to use. My family is from the eastcoast and had little knowledge of Yellowstone before our trip. With the help of Barn on the Banks and the town of Gardiner our trip was an experience that my family will never forget. It was by far my sons' favorite trip. If you rent this place you will love it!! Thanks Barn and Gardiner for a wonderful trip.

Great Yellowstone Vacation

Guest: Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 06/05/10 Review Submitted: 07/01/10

Our family stayed at the Barn on the Banks in early June 2010. The place was even better than the pictures, really beautiful. The view from the interior and the deck was breathtaking! Even though the Barn is between 2 houses, we always felt like it was very private. We flew in from Pennsylvania with nothing but our clothes. From the kitchen to the laundry the Barn on the Banks was perfectly stocked. It had everything we needed. The internet service was slow, but it was reliable. The Barn is in a great location for day trips all throughout Yellowstone park. The Northern entrance was just a few blocks away. We saw elk, bison, mountain goats, black bears, grizzly bears, osprey, eagles, and more! We highly recommend the Barn on the Banks!

We had a wonderful time staying in the barn. The location is great, very close to the north entrance of Yellowstone. The photos do not do this place justice, it was a GREAT place to come home to after visiting the park. It really felt like home too. Ken and Linda were wonderful, helpful, and they have thought of everything. There were coolers and a picnic basket to borow, they told us where to go to see wildlife in the park, they went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Don't think twice about booking this place...do it now before you miss your chace. You will be happy you did.

WOW. what a wonderful place. The barn on the banks has everything....Did not want to leave. Ken and Linda are the greatest and soooo helpful. Saw a lot of wildlife and western birds from the porch. If you are staying in Gardnier or north yellowstone area don't pass on this one. Reserve early it will go fast. I hope to go back again and again.

Owner response:Ahh... Springtime in the Rockies!. The air is so fresh and filled with birds singing their springtime melodies.... sightings of hummingbirds, Eagles, and Osprey,...the animals with their new babies are such a delight to see,... grass turning green, beautiful mountain flowers, and... great mountain views! The list could go on forever. The weather may be unpredictable, but who cares when you stay at "Barn on the Banks" bordering Yellowstone Park. There is so much to see and do only minutes away from the North Gate Entrance Station and the famous Teddy Roosevelt Arch. Thank you for choosing "Barn on the Banks", hope to see you again in the near future. Linda

Yellowstone Vacation 22 May - 29 May 2010

Guest: Michael S. (Atlanta metro area, Georgia, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/22/10 Review Submitted: 06/11/10

We found the property as advertised, or even better. We would stay at The Barn again without hesitation and have no reservations whatsoever recommending it to others. Ken and Linda were attentive to our every need without being the least bit intrusive and gave us timely and helpful hints including shopping and viewing wildlife (a special treat was seeing the owls that were nesting behind one of the Administration buildings at Mammoth Hot Springs, a sight we surely would have missed without the tip and directions). When we had problems with the Wireless Internet setup, they corrected it promptly (including installation of a new router) upon ascertaining that the problem was not with our computers. There were six of us (3 adults, 3 children); the accommodations met all our needs for eating, sleeping and plain relaxing. The children enjoyed exploring the area around The Barn, and an added bonus was the ability to view wildlife in the migratory route that passed within a hundred yards or so of The Barn. The Barn proved to be very comfortable and was convenient for us as we made daily trips into Yellowstone Park. The location at Gardiner facilitated our visits to the Northeast Entrance (Silver Gate/Cooke City) and the West Entrance (don't miss the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone). The road over Dunraven Pass was opened on May 26th (for the first time this year, we were told by a Park Ranger), so we were able to travel both the Upper Loop and Lower Loop roads and made repeated trips to Old Faithful and the Norris Geyser Basin in addition to visiting Canyon, the Yellowstone Lake Hotel for lunch, West Thumb and stops at Craig Pass (Continental Divide and Isa Lake). We were surprised that Lake Yellowstone was almost entirely covered with ice. We were fortunate to observe Antelope, some Black Bears, numerous Bison and Elk, one Coyote, several Mule-eared Deer, one Grizzly Bear, one Wolf and numerous geese and other wildfowl. Our main disappointment was in not spotting any Moose or Bighorn Sheep.

Owner response:Thank you for the nice comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at "Barn on the Banks of Yellowstone". The rainy, cool springtime weather certainly didn't stop our guests from enjoying Yellowstone,( in fact I think they were able to see more wildlife because of the weather). The added bonus of visiting in May/June is seeing the springtime baby animals.. such a delight!. Hope to see again in the near future. Thanks again for choosing to stay at our barn. Linda

What a lovely stay! I was lucky enough to stay in this cozy retreat for 4 nights in December. Despite the very chilly weather outside the loft stayed very warm; thanks to the efficient furnace and electic fireplaces. The loft is beautifully decorated with a rustic yet modern decor. Very well stocked with anything you may need (silverware, coffee, soap, paper towels, condiments, even microwave popcorn). Gorgeous views of Electric peak, surrounding mountains and the Yellowstone river. I felt so comfortable here..Ken and Linda make you feel right at home.

Barn on the Banks was the perfect "Home Away From Home" for our vacation! Easy access to Yellowstone National Park (less than 5 minutes)and great views from the deck. Our two families had plenty of room in the Barn (even with three children). Ken and Linda are thoughtful owners and Gardiner has a small town charm. Our families would highly recommend staying at the Barn on the Banks - don't even bother with a hotel!! Also, check out Chico Hot Springs (30 min. away) and the Cowboy dinner with horseback riding - two vacation highlights :) Thanks again Ken and Linda, we had a great time! -the Lenser family of CO and the Donovan family of WI
