Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
We are a Kamaaina family, born and raised on the island. We love our island home. This is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, as well as vacation with multi-generational families which we enjoy hosting. Hawaii is a unique place and it is not uncommon for the generations to live together. This home is perfect for this, providing private space and many commmon gathering spaces.
Why the Owner Chose Kailua
If you live in Hawaii you cannot help but love the ocean. Being close to the ocean is a dream for many families. Being able to wake up and walk the beach in the morning to start your day, and then after a long day at work to come home and unwind by walking the beach at dusk is heavenly. Additionally, spending family holidays with the children on the beach makes for wonderful memories. We all have memories of camping at the beach as children and with this home who needs a tent?!!
The Unique Benefits of this House
Long beach walks, boogie boarding and surfing with the kids, shell hunting, building sand castles, and lounging under an umbrella.

We brought friends and family to this large home in mid January 2011. The home was very comfortable and the bedrooms were large and ALL of the beds were top quality. When we arrived it was after a storm and some of the surrounding tree leaves had fallen into the pool. We called the owners who instantly returned our call. The pool man was at the home the very next day while we were off enjoying the island and he cleaned the pool and checked the hot tub and it was just beautiful. Access to the beach is just down the street via a private gate. We felt a little funny going through the private gate to get to the ocean, but we were assured by the neighbours that it was the correct access and we were never questioned. House has a washer and dryer in the garage and it came in very handy for washing the towels and bathing suits. Overall this is a very nice home with lots of privacy and or lots of light depending on your choice with large windows in the living room and Master bedroom. The house needs a little work but overall it was very comfortable and clean. Go ahead and book this home and you will enjoy your trip and the quiet location of this home within 100 yards of Kailua Beach. Only 20 minuted from HNL Airport rent a Car ! Aloha Don and Nancie

Our overall experience staying in this house was very good. While the decor and interior seemed worn, it was still clean and spacious. There was plenty of room for each family to have their own space. The large dining area and lanai was perfect for big family meals. The best part of the house was the location. It was steps away from a gorgeous stretch of Kailua Beach. The beach is kid friendly and great for boogie boarding. Also within walking distance: a small market and shave ice shop. Kailua town is minutes away. The owners were very nice to work with. We also enjoyed the ping pong table. I'd stay there again.

Our family rented this property to attend a first birthday Luau for our youngest grandchild, we needed a large home with great amenites and that is what we got. There were 11 in our party and the confiquiration of this house was perfect with 2 bedrooms per bathroom and a Huge screened-in porch where we pretty much lived for the whole week, plenty of seating for our whole group. We found the house clean and airy, being from Colorado we were a little worried about no air conditioning but found opening the windows and doors all with screens kept the home comfortable. The pool was as advertised well kept as was the deck and we really used the outdoor shower it kept the sand out of the house. The hot tub was not used much as we lived in the pool and on the deck we have real water babies for grandchildren but my husband did check it out thinking he would use it the first night after our day of travel and it worked well and was very private off the master ( unfortunely he fell asleep before using it) Our daughter in law who lives in Honolulu was very impressed with home and access to the beach she says that it was a great value. NOT one complaint about the beds they were good and solid with great mattress's, great water pressure which is important with many people getting ready at the same time. Kitchen was very workable for a vacation home great size fridge, oven and plenty of pans, no trouble with the grill we used it almost every night. Finally we found the neighbor hood quiet and neighbors friendly, The beach was perfect for boogie boarding everyday some days were ok for snorkling saw 2 turttles almost everyday the kids named them. Access to the rest of the island was easy 20-25 minutes to almost every where over the Pali highway or H3 The town of kailua was nice with resturants and shops and if you have access to military shopping K-bay is only 5 minutes with easy driving. We will certainly use this home for any visits we make to Oahu.

We stayed here for 5 nights as a multi generation family reunion. It was the perfect house; large, great pool and hot tub, great lanai and screened party room with ping pong, bar and plenty of space for everyone. The Beautiful beach was steps away from the front door, where we had private beach access and use of boogie boards, surf boards and beach umbrellas. We loved it so much , we contacted the owners while there and requested an additional night. They were very open and always got right back to us, so we stayed an additional night. The only recommendations we would make would be to provide instructions for the DVD player, and provide more of the kitchen basics like a carrot peeler, wine glasses , coffee grinder and knife set, otherwise it was a lovely home that we would happily stay in again and again.Perfect!

The owners made this the easiest vacation rental I've ever had. They responded quickly to the couple of questions we had and worked around our arrival and departure schedule. The house is huge and had a real "family home" feel. We were a smaller group (6) and we felt lost in the house and the attached, screened lanai. The kids loved playing in the pool at the end of the day and the beach is only a 2 minute walk. Parking is a little tight for two cars but not a big deal. This is exactly what we were hoping for based on the pictures and description and we were not disappointed. We will definitely be coming back!

The home is in a beautiful location only a short walk to a private beach entrance. The home itself is wonderful and the beds very comfortable. Our stay at the property was pleasant with the exception of the amenities that are listed in the rental are unavailable and the owner's expectations of the renters are unexpected. We were deciding between two properties in Kailua and chose this property because it was listed with a lap pool, hot tub, and bbq grill. The other property we didn't go with was about 20% less, but the extras this property supposedly had were too tempting to not pay extra money. Unfortunately when we arrived the lap pool was mirky filled with cockroaches and leaves, the hot tub was ice cold and did not turn on, and the bbq grill did not have propane and even after we purchased propane the grill did not work and determined completely broken. We had a large bbq planned in the evening and we weren't able to start our dinner until late in the evening because we spent 3 hours trying to clean the clogged valves from this filthy grill. When I called the owner Chaika about the grill she said she would send the Sears repairman over to fix it...he never showed and we gave him over two weeks. When we spoke about the hot tub she complained that the part to fix it would cost $1,000. We let the owner know about these items the second day we were at the property and over two weeks later the items were still not fixed. The lap pool did get cleaned the last day we were there. Unfortunately, it was the last day we were there. After our stay when I spoke with Chaika about these complaints and I told her we would have gone with the other property had we known the hot tub, lap pool, and bbq grill were not working she remarked that we couldn't have possibly found a cheaper place in all of Kailua. My last complaint is that Chaika called me the day after we left to complain that we didn't clean after ourselves before leaving. In the dozens of rental properties I have stayed in including a good number in Hawaii I have never been asked to clean a home after staying there. With the price I negotiated we didn't leave a deposit. However, it is apparent that if you stay with this property and you don't clean before you leave it is most likely that you will not receive in return the deposit you have paid. We expected the listing to be honest and accurate and ended up paying for a far inferior product even after giving the owner an opportunity to fix.
Owner response:We live a couple of lanes away and are quickly available should a renter need assistance. We did not get a call regarding the grill not working until "3 hours" after Mike tried to fix it. My husband was ready to go over and look at the grill, fix it, or bring over our other grill. Mike declined my offer, instead saying it was no problem they were going to use charcoal and would be sure to clean it out before they left. The hot tub electrical grid had to be ordered from the mainland. It was installed as soon as it arrived, and before they left. The pool is cleaned every week. If ever there is a problem, the pool man lives in Kailua and can come over at a moments notice. We received no complaint about the pool. During their stay the weather was windy and some leaves from the surrounding trees can fall into the pool, this cannot be helped. There is a pool net on the deck if you need it. I did not take a security deposit from this renter because he portrayed himself and his party as very religious, family men, & clean cut during our negotiations. He promised they would treat the property with respect. When I walked in beds were laying on the ground in the living room and master, garbage and clothes strewn on the floor, and important customer financial documentation scattered in each room, including social security numbers and banking information. The 4 poster bed was broken with a side table proping up a rail. Muddy foot prints were on the carpet in the third bedroom. Molded and rotting food left in the kitchen and on the grill. Needless to say we have never had guests leave our property in this condition. When I called Mike to ask what had happened, he told me he had left days earlier and the guys must have been mad. No apology, no offer to remedy the situation. Cleaning fee's are included in billing. I suggested he pay the difference if the cleaning crew were to charge more given the deplorable condition the house was in. We have never withheld a security deposit from a guest. There has never been a need. All of our guests have been curteous and respectful and have had wonderful family vacations which is our goal.
