Best house we've stayed at in Cape Charles

My family has vacationed in Cape Charles three times, and we truly love it there. But the Luxury Craftsman Cottage was by far our favorite rental home yet, and we definitely plan to return. It's a beautiful and also very comfortable house, and great for a family with kids (like the owners themselves!) The location is great (about 1 block from the beach and 1 block from the main business district). The house is spacious, especially on the first floor, with lots of little nooks and crannies and tons of options in terms of seating, eating spaces, and activities. The pictures on this site don't do it justice, and don't even show you the (perhaps overly!) spacious master bathroom, complete with beautiful marble, a clawfoot soaking tub, separate shower, etc. There is also an outdoor shower (with good privacy!), a nice amenity. On the down side, there are a few minor things. The property is listed as having Wi-Fi, but it either doesn't or it doesn't work well (we had two laptops and one could sometimes find a signal, the other couldn't connect at all due to lack of password information). This has been a consistent downfall on all of our visits to Cape Charles. For professionals, even those on vacation, it's really important to have reliable Internet access. While it's true that one can find WiFi along the business district, there are time limitations and a convenience factor there that are annoying-- especially when the property advertises it as a feature. The second full bathroom upstairs is rather small. The kitchen is well-appointed, but with a lot of "seconds," especially when it comes to cooking utensils. There were no soaps, TP, or paper towels supplied (which is common, but it would be nice to know ahead of time) and perhaps the most annoying thing was no hand towels either for the kitchen or for any of the bathrooms. Also nothing to hand wash dishes with. Those minor things are just that-- minor, but can be a real pain and are usually not the sort of thing one wants to have to go out and buy just for the week. There were also no leftover condiments or that sort of thing... not a huge deal, but something you often do find in rental homes (so maybe they have a policy of tossing anything left behind?) The neighbor also has 3 (excited!) dogs that were vocal 3 times a day. All in all, we really loved it (GORGEOUS blue decor/theme throughout!) and would highly recommend.

Owner response:We apologize about the WiFi confusion: there is access to unsecured networks as advertised, but we don't have our own WiFI quite PURPOSELY! This is our place to "unplug".... Also, the kitchen utensils are quite new but there was an issue with lime deposits in the town water that discolored the black ones...these will be replaced. Our kitchen towels have disappeared this summer and the rental company is replacing them! Sorry for the inconvenience!

Our family recently stayed for a week in this house. It's the perfect location to the beach and the shops - a small block away from both. House was really clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay in it again for a future visit! Our only complaint was the internet connection... it rarely worked.

Perfect for family with young children!

This was the pefect house for our family with two young children: charming, quiet and well-equipped; a short walk to an ideal beach for children; and in a lovely small town at the southern tip of the Chesapeake peninsula. We spent two wonderful weeks enjoying the beach, local seafood and day-trips to Colonial Williamsburg (one and a half hours away), Norfolk, Portsmouth (with a terrific Virigina Children's Museum) and Chincoteague's Atlantic ocean beach. Highly recommended!

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

The house is located within an easy walk of the beach or the charming down-town area. The house is beautifully decorated, with a sea-side theme throughout. The screened porch was a welcome addition and we spent many happy hours in it. We can't wait to go back.

This home was just perfect for our family vacation. It is beautifully decorated and immaculate. The front porch swing and screened in porch out back are terrific for relaxing afternoons and evenings. It feels like a home away from home. With the beach only a block away, it is an ideal vacation rental.

This was a beautiful cozy home in a charming town on the eastern shore. The house was very clean and furnished nicely. Beach is an easy walk away. Good Restaurants and cute boutiques are also within walking distance. The town truly has a Mayberry feel to it. Great place to relax with family and friends.
