Heron Hideaway - Marsh Views! 5 Min Walk to Beach! Screen Porches!
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Amazing marsh views and just 5 short blocks from the beach! You can see the beach entrance from the front of the house. The newly added 3rd Floor deck offers incredible views of the marsh. Even better bird watching (and dolphins in the wintertime!) A manatee swam up to our neighbor's dock and visited him last summer...
Surrounded by glorious marsh and tidal creek views from every window, Heron Hideaway is one of the rare view houses on the island that offers a spectacular view along with close proximity to the beach and the best restaurants. Your location is central island, yet you are in a secluded and relaxed location. Located on a gravel road on beautiful Tybee Island, this vacation house has all the amenities of home and more!
You know you are on vacation when you walk in the door. Every room is decorated with beach fun in mind. All 2,000 square feet of the house is festive and comfortable. The screened-in front porch has views of the marsh & tidal creek. You can often hear the sound of the ocean from the front porch as well! Enjoy the four outdoor living spaces with comfy seating. Have a ping-pong tournament in the outdoor game room! This house is perfect for a group of family & friends.
The main floor on the 2nd level is large and comfortable. The kitchen, dining area and great room occupy one large space so the cook is never left out of the action. Watch the 42' flat screen and take in a beautiful view of the marsh in the living area at the same time!
The house is all about comfort. The beds are first class and all rooms are equipped with ceiling fans. Even the front porch has ceiling fans. The parking is generous. Park 8 cars in the front driveway. Or a RV or even small boat and trailer. During high season, you will be glad to have this off street parking so close to the beach. Very few houses on Tybee offer this.
The two guest bedrooms on the main floor (2nd level) offer views of the marsh as well. 'Hula' is equipped with twin beds and 'Dragonfly' has a king size bed. With both a full bath and a half bath on the second floor there is rarely a wait for the facilities. There are many windows throughout the house so you get lots of natural light.
The master bedroom is on the 3rd level. 'Tahiti' is very large: 17' x 17' with a vaulted ceiling. It has a king size bed plus a single day bed with a single trundle under it. It easily sleeps 4. Take advantage of the coffee station and the large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and shower. The large walk in closet with a make-up table and mirror makes the experience even more wonderful. Enjoy spectacular views of the marsh and sunsets on the large deck directly off of 'Tahiti'.
The open air game room below the house has a ping pong table and a dart board. It provides many hours of fun for friends and family. And you will find an outdoor shower with hot and cold water behind the game room in case you want to rinse off before going up.
Ideal home for one or two families, girls getaway weekend or a honeymoon retreat. The owner is an artist and the home is full of her original art and other local and regional artists.
We support Sea Turtles in Georgia and around the world. The Tybee Sea Turtle Project has been working very hard to increase the number of loggerhead sea turtle nests. 2012 was a record-breaking year in large part because of our successful 'Lights Out For Sea Turtles' education we've helped sponsor. All our homes feature a starter supply of Mermaid Morning Bliss coffee which supports the sea turtle projects. This coffee is 100% organic Columbian craft-brewed coffee created just for us!
NO SURPRISES HERE! Our cottage is professionally cleaned and managed by one of the top management companies on Tybee Island with 24/7 customer service.

Our family enjoyed our stay at Heron Hideaway. The cottage was very warm and welcoming. We felt at home right away. The walk to the beach was a short 4-5 blocks and the views of the marsh were great. We also loved the screened in porches. We hope to come back to Heron Hideaway again someday.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We really enjoyed the place, especially since us parents got the roomy bedroom upstairs with the view. A modest walk to a wonderful beach and a 25 minute drive to downtown gave us all sorts of options. The accommodations are clean and fine.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Heron Hideaway. The house was lovely, the artwork great! (Still haven't heard back about the artist't info, the Mermaids, one over fireplace, the other upstairs bath.Couldn't find website!)Had wonderful sunsets every night!Be aware that the house is very close to other houses. This is a year round residence neighborhood. Not a problem but a little noisy in mornings with neighbors working outside. We took our bikes and used them for everything.Enjoyed some very good food at Social, twice!Loco's was great too! The owner (and everyone) couldn't have been nicer, she blows a conch shell at sunset with a special cocktail included! We will be back! Oh, the ping pong table was a great perk! Thanks Mermaids! About the owner: Paul and I live in Texas but our hearts are on Tybee Island. We plan to retire on Tybee one day. In the meantime we visit often. We both work. And we both have hobbies that are very fulfilling. I am an artist. You will see many of my paintings, my mother's paintings and other art by local artists thoughout the house. Paul is an amazing cook and gardener. He keeps about 60 orchids at our house in Texas. We have many friends on Tybee and love them all. Our neighbors are wonderful people. Elizabeth and Cecil, who live next door at 'Kokomo', have an amazing property with deep water in their backyard. They are sea captains and offer fishing charters and nature tours. And they are so fun to go out with!
Why the Owner Chose Tybee Island:
Tybee Island, Georgia is the place in our hearts. When you cross the marsh to get to Tybee your blood pressure automatically drops and your heart will begin to sing. No wonder they filmed 'The Last Song' on Tybee. It is a breathtaking place with small town charm. Added bonus: Tybee offers the island experience with city life close by. Historic downtown Savannah is just a 20 minute drive away.
There is no place like Tybee. And we have explored many places. We love riding bikes around the island and looking at the beautiful New Orleans walk-up style houses and the quaint and quirky 1920's and 1930's bungalows painted in tropical colors. The people here are so nice and welcoming. And the food! Oh my goodness. It is so good! Paula Deen is the most notable cook (she has a house near us) but there are many other talented chefs to rival Paula here on Tybee Island. Don't miss Sundae Cafe, StingRays and AJ's while you are here!
The beach was recently named the cleanest beach in the US for air and water purity. There are so many beautiful things to see here. And there are many fun events throughout the year. The Tybee Island events and parades are so fun! Take a look at the map and list of our favorite restaurants and activities in the laundry room so you won't miss the best things to do and see. We love Tybee and believe you will too.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The marsh views cannot be described adequately. You look out and see wildlife and miles of marsh. It is breathtaking. And so peaceful.
The house is centrally located on the island. You can ride bikes to favorite lunch and dinner spots. We keep a list of our favorite restaurants and activities at the house so you will know the very best places to go, just like a local.
The grocery store is only 6 blocks away which is so convenient. The YMCA is 6 blocks the other way in case you want some Gym time.
At night you will be amazed at the array of stars you see from the deck. When we are up on that deck, all the problems of the world disappear.
Ping-pong tournaments are so fun. Or you can watch one of the many movies in the great room.
Be sure to go to AJ's Dockside for dinner one evening. It is a short bike ride around the marsh to the back river. There is a map of the island at the house that will show you the way. The suset at AJ's is almost as wonderful as the one at Heron Hideaway!
