From Highway 1, to Hwy 280 to Pacbell Park, Convention Center, SFMOMA, and the Embarcadero is only 20-30 min. From Highway 1, to the Great Highway (Hwy 35) and the SF Zoo, Cliff House and western entrance to the golden Gate Park is only 20 minutes.

Enjoy restorative peace and quiet after a day of sightseeing or, daytrips, at our Travler's retreat which is situated next to open space. This light-filled, open house has great views of the woods and coastal mountains. The outdoor gardens with seating areas are home to hummingbirds, butterflies, and deer. The house is fully furnished and equipped and was extensively remodeled in 2001 and refurbished in 2008. A marble floor entry leads upstairs to an open area containing the L-shaped living, dining room and kitchen. Sliding doors open out to a large second-story deck which overlooks the backyard gardens. The kitchen has all new appliances and blue-tiled counters which are open to the dining room. Every room is decorated with local artists' works.

Nearby (two miles), Princeton Harbor is a working harbor where you can buy your fish fresh or smoked, take a deep-sea fishing trip, or fish/crab from the pier. The protected beaches within the harbor are wonderful for children, and the bluff walks above provide views of the world-famous Mavericks surfing area, elegant cypresses, and pounding waves. A flat paved 14-mile long bicycle trail runs from the Harbor along the beaches past Half Moon Bay and other trails are to be found along the bluffs, and coastal mountains.

A short ten minute drive south will get you to the quaint, seaside town of Half Moon Bay with its galleries, restaurants, and golf courses. Enjoy the culinary talents of chefs at a host of restaurants, like the Navio at the Ritz-Carlton, the award-winning Cetrella, or Zagat-rated Café Gibraltor. Enjoy local favorites like the HMB Brewing company with its microbrewery, the cliff-hugging Moss Beach Distillery or the 100-year old Duarte's in Pescadero. Order the famous local artichoke soup.

Further south are San Gregorio and Pescadero with their beautiful beaches, bird marshes and Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Ano Nuevo State Park is home to the famous Elephant Seals (Nov-Mar; reservations required). Sunny Santa Cruz has wonderful surfing beaches and Boardwalk is a short hour south. 20-min East you will find yourself in the redwoods, on Skyline Blvd with panoramic vistas overlooking the Peninsula. For those who want to explore further afield Napa/Sonoma Valley, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, and Sausalito/Stinson Beach/Muir Woods are easy day trips.

Why the Owner Chose Other San Francisco Properties

We have lived on the Coastside (Montara, Half Moon Bay) since 1983, since it was convenient to our jobs in biotech and the University in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and later Emeryville. We love the views and access to the ocean, the clean moist ocean air, the outdoor trails, hikes, and bike trails, and the accessibility to the City and Peninsula. In 2001, we had an opportunity to purchase the property next door to us, enabling us to create our outdoor gardens and have a house for visitors and guests.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Easy access to the Ocean, beaches, hiking - 2 min to a multitude of beaches
Quiet, peaceful retreat after a day of site seeing in San Francisco or elsewhere
A central location and easy access to downtown SF (20-30 min), the airport (20 min), San Mateo (30 min), Palo Alto (45 min)
The harbor with its fresh ocean catch and restaurants
Local farms and produce

    • We had a marvelous and relaxing weekend in this home. The owners were easy-going and available, and gave us our privacy. The house allowed us to spread out and have fun. The scenery and nature surrounding the home is beautiful. The close beaches and small towns made exploring and enjoying the area very easy. I highly recommend this vacation rental.

    • Our experience exceeded our expectations. The owners went above and beyond to accommodate our requests, make us feel comfortable, and make our weekend perfect, which it was! The home, inside and out, is beautiful. The large trees surrounding the house made us feel like we were in a national park. The flow of the house allowed everyone to feel comfortable-there's a lot of room. The downstairs bathroom has a walk-in bath/shower that made it easy for one of our family members who had recently had hip surgery. Having a kitchen on both levels was very convenient. The proximity to the beaches, small coastal towns, stores, restaurants, and San Francisco make it a great location. I highly recommend both the owners and the property!
