Location: Old Fort, Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA (Near Asheville & Black Mountain, North Carolina)
Accommodations: Historic Lodge, 6 Bedrooms, 6 Baths (Sleeps 14-24)
Round Knob Lodge is great for family reunions, corporate retreats, church retreats, and history/train buffs. It was originally built in the 1930s and fully restored in 2002 to 2003. The building was beautifully constructed by the railroad out of stone, massive railroad steel bridge beams, and large railroad timbers. Included among the extensive stonework are five stone fireplaces.
This Lodge was a part of a destination landmark constructed by the railroad. Andrew’s Geyser - built in 1885 to mark the railroad gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains - is adjacent to the property shooting a powerful stream of water 80 feet into the air year round. Railroad tracks climb the mountains in almost a full circle around the lodge to gain elevation as they cross the scenic Black Mountain range. Passengers on steam trains which once ran on these tracks thought viewing the geyser was a highlight of their trip.
The 11 acre property boasts a beautiful pristine trout stream, a swimming pool, and a stocked two acre fishing lake complete with a swimming dock and bridge to a small island. Numerous and extensive hiking trails can be accessed either on or near the property. Views include Andrew’s Geyser, High Pinnacle Mountain, and Greybeard Mountain. The lodge itself has a pool table, dart board, ping pong, foosball, board games, and two satellite TVs.
This Non-Smoking Lodge has six bedrooms, six full baths, and sleeps 14 to 24+ people. It is furnished with antiques, railroad memorabilia, original paintings, and historical photographs. In addition to the large kitchen, there is a charcoal grill, gas grill, and a wood-fired 84" cooker for pig barbecues. There is one screened-in porch and two decks (one large and one small of each).
