St. Augustine cottage description
Come and enjoy this cozy cottage in the land of dolphins and pelicans! Enjoy the sounds of gentle breezes blowing in the palm trees outside your window, and the surf rolling up on the beach. You'll love the natural beauty of the still-unspoiled area of North Florida. You can walk along a peaceful, uncrowded beach and just relax, or pick one of the many activities nearby: para sailing, deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, boating, cycling, bird-watching, hiking or golf.
Historic St. Augustine is only two miles away, Jacksonville 45 minutes away, and Orlando is a two-hour drive.
This quaint, historic cottage was part of a group of houses built in the 1930's in this area of Vilano Beach. Originally a fishing village, the area was constructed by an aviator named Reiss, a colleague of Charles Lindbergh and founder of the St. Augustine airport. Used by military families during WWII (a German spy occupied one of these cottages), it later became a motel called the Pagoda.

Great place to stay!
Great place to stay!
Wonderful AND perfect in every way! It was so cozy and comfy and everything you need is in the cabin. Beach so close plus stores and downtown too. Everythijng the owner noted as to why they chose this location I totally agree with. The history of it just makes it that much more meaningful. Loved every moment there and want to return, thank you!

Just What the Doctor Ordered!
Just What the Doctor Ordered!
We are so thrilled that we decided to stop off in this lovely area en route to my mom’s in southern Florida. Our stay at this wonderful, historic cottage- just a few moments away from the water- was just what we needed in terms of rest and relaxation. We are so grateful that Jackie, the owner, helped us coordinate our stop over in St. Augustine. (Thanks for all the helpful tips!). We arrived to this beautiful, private location, parking convenient on the premises with ample property to seclude ourselves- “just what doctored ordered”! The cottage, upon arrival, was clean with fresh towels and sheets, has a small kitchen- but fully equipped, and was very comfortable and refreshing (air-conditioned, Thank God!), which we appreciated after a several hours of exploring the near-by peaceful beach. This was our first visit to St. Augustine- which by the way is a fantastic small city to be discovered. Overall, our three days at the cottage was therapeutic and we would love to return. With this said- we can highly recommend this rental, and can’t say enough about the accommodating owner Jackie (who notified us that we could arrive an hour earlier to get settled in). Thanks again.

Jackie was a pleasure to deal with, when we booked our stay at her cottage. The location was perfect for us, as it was less than a five minute drive to a great boat launch for our kayaks, for paddling and kayak fishing over at Poncho Creek, across the ICW. Being just a short walk from the beach was terrific, as well. We enjoyed evening strolls on the beach and appreciated the fact that it wasn't packed with tourists, like St. Augustine Beach. Publix is a short walk away; very convenient for picking up groceries. And, the cottage is located just off the bridge that takes you across to the Historic District of St. Augustine. Although I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends, I would attach a disclaimer: Do NOT rent this cottage in summer, if you wish to sleep in a cool bedroom. Yes, the cottage is air conditioned, however, it is a wall air conditioner that is mounted in the window out in the front room. The cool air does not reach the bedroom off the kitchen, so, even with a ceiling fan, the room was VERY hot at night, during our 95 degree days/ 75 degree nights. We ended up taking the mattress out to the front room floor, so we could sleep more comfortably; a bit of a hassle, but worth it. I would recommend to Jackie that she invest in an air conditioner for the bedroom off the kitchen. If she does, I would rate this cottage 5 stars. Owner response: Thank you for the review! So sorry you were uncomfortable with the heat. I wish you had called me, we would have let you use the other bedroom that has an air conditioner in it. Prior to your stay we had put in a new air conditioner. From your response sounds like it's not quite doing the job - we've not received complaints before so we will rectify this.
We stayed 3 nights at the Cottage and had a very relaxing weekend! It was my husband and myself and my brother and his wife and the cottage is set up perfectly for two couples. There is a bedroom and bath on each "end" of the cottage and then a small kitchen and living area in the middle. We didn't spend much time in the cottage so the small living area was not a problem. It is a very short walk to the beach over the dunes and the shelling is the best I've ever seen on a Florida beach and I've been to many of them! The cottage is right across the street from Publix and the new shopping and eating area. There are several good restaurants there and of course St. Augustine is right across the bridge. We would recommend the cottage for 1 or 2 couples or a small family and for anybody looking for a relaxing getaway.

Perfect, peaceful vacation!
Perfect, peaceful vacation!
This cottage really was what we had in mind for our holiday vacation by the ocean. It's really cozy, but has everything you need, including beach towels and chairs. Every morning we got up and strolled down to the dunes with our coffee (didn't need to cross any roads). There was hardly anyone there - and we saw dolphins! The old town is closeby and at that time of year the lights are beautiful. There's a grocery store within easy walking distance which was really convenient. We hiked at the state park up the road. We'll be coming back!

We have been using the Beachcomber cottage since 2004. Some years we've been twice! We love it. The cottage is cozy, clean, and has everything we need for a week on the beach. It takes only 5 minutes to walk to the beach and almost everyday we have a large area all to ourselves. The convenience to stores for food and souvenirs is great. Kyle's Seafood Market is great for fresh caught fish and clams, but if you want something special they will get it for you. When the day is done the cottage has comfort to offer. We'll be reserving the Beachcomber for as long as the owner will let us.

Why the Owner Chose St. Augustine:
The first time we traveled to St. Augustine and visited friends who had a cottage on Vilano Beach, we fell in love with the area. It was so different from other places in Florida in that it was less developed and more relaxing to us. The beaches are so beautiful and Vilano is not crowded. There is so much closeby - the historic parts of St. Augustine, which maintains its original architectural style; Guana State Park, where there are many trails for easy hiking; a gorgeous scenic drive up A1A North; and the beach is just 100 yards from our door.
