WELCOME TO SIDEWAYS IN SEWANEE!

Sideways is a rustic, quaint little 3 bedroom, 1 bath house right smack in the middle of campus (the University of the South campus, that is). It's a 110 year old gem of a cottage whose poor old bones just aren't as straight as they once were.

While a bit crooked it may be, it definitely won't let you down when it comes to offering you relaxation on a budget and a great location to reconnect with alumni and friends! It's located within walking distance to the local coffee shop (Stirling's) and the local bar (Shenanigan's), as well as countless hiking trails, golf and tennis courts, lakes for fishing, and just about every University building. It is NOT the Hilton. It's far from it. This is an old house that is used as a vacation home on most weekends by the owners and their spouses and looks more like a casual old vacation home than a fancy bed and breakfast, so please set your expectations accordingly. Think crooked floors, drafty windows, but with a great set of porches. Don't get us wrong, it's cute, it's just not fancy. :)

Email for specific questions regarding renting. Renting is allowed for University sponsored events only. Pricing is $150 per night with a 2-night minimum except during Commencement/Graduation each year. Due to the high demand, the rate for Commencement is $1500 flat rate for minimum 6 nights/7 days.

WE REQUIRE A TWO-NIGHT MINIMUM STAY.

The property is located at 121 Palmetto Ave, Sewanee, TN 37375.

We look forward to letting you be a part of Sideways!

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2006

Zach Goodyear and Scott Evans are business partners and at Village Real Estate Services in Nashville, TN. They both graduated from Sewanee and own the house together with their wives.

Why the Owner Chose Sewanee

You can't beat a week or weekend in Sewanee. You'll leave feeling stress free and ready to come back again soon! It's a good family getaway or a couples retreat. Again, it's not fancy, but it's a rustic cabin close to everything. That's why we love it.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Eating at Shenanigan's, Crust, Julia's, Sweet CeCe's, and The Blue Chair. Hiking (the bookstore has a great book called "Go Take A Hike" that is cheap and shows all of the great hikes in the area - pick up a copy when you're there!). If you're into high adventure, the Ocoee river is a decent drive, but doable. We don't rock climb, but for people who do there are apparently some good sites around.

Great location, comfortable house!

Guest: Rachel (Chattanooga, TN)
Date of Stay: 11/07/11 Review Submitted: 01/15/12

My children and I stayed here for a month in November. Not only was communication good with the owners, the location could not have been better (within a five minutes' walk from the library) and the house was exactly what we needed. With small children, I wanted a place that wasn't too fancy and that felt comfortable and homey. We will definitely be staying here again in the coming months and years.

Charming old house close to everything!

This was our second visit to Sideways, and won't be our last. It's a funny old house (which we love!), and very comfortable. Feels like our "home away from home." It has everything you could need and is walking distance from campus, Shenanigans, etc. Plus the rental experience is so friendly and painless. We can't wait to return soon!

The house was absolutely perfect and exactly as advertised. We had plenty of room and our two dogs loved their first vacation! Being able to walk everywhere was wonderful, and the area is just amazing. We can't wait go back again!!

Do not side step Sideways!

Guest: Michele (Franklin, Tn)
Date of Stay: 08/05/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

Quaint. Cozy. Two porches. The side porch was best for a morning cup of coffee while the front porch accoustics enhanced evening guitar solos. Although the interior color scheme is 'interesting' it works well in the home. Bring food and drink only... everything else you could want is provided. Within walking distance to the campus and surrounding businesses so don't forget your walking shoes.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay in this authentic 19th century house. It is close to campus, so we were able to walk everywhere. There is a coffee shop with a porch full of rocking chairs less than 300 meters away, we became regulars! The house has a lovely front prorch area as well that was perfect for early morning meditations and breakfast. I would certainly stay again.

Sideways is so charming

We really, really enjoyed our stay at Sideways. The interior of the house is decorated nicely and the house is very clean and updated. Perfect distance for the kids to ride their bikes to the tennis courts and around the campus. Zach was great to work with and we'll be making it our annual spot during tennis camp.

A great place to stay in Sewanee!

Guest: Padova travelers (Blacksburg, VA)
Date of Stay: 04/07/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

My husband and I stayed here during a conference at The University of the South. The house is VERY conveniently located, truly walking distance from everywhere and yet secluded enough to be quiet and peaceful. The house was clean and neat and we enjoyed all the cheerful colors on the walls. It's not a fancy place, but has everything you need for a pleasant stay (unless you are TV addicts.) The owners were prompt with emails both before, during and after the rental. We will definitely stay there again the next time we are in Sewanee.

A Great Place To Stay On Campus

Guest: Sewanee Alum (Nashville, TN)
Date of Stay: 09/23/10 Review Submitted: 09/23/10

This is a wonderful option when visiting Sewanee. The house is on campus but not in the heart of the dorms or fraternity houses so it is always quiet and peaceful. I have stayed many times and always found it pristine and with all the ammenities one would expect or need. It is a small, cozy cottage but if you are visiting Sewanee you should be outside anyway. Even if you don't feel like hiking or biking, the two porches offer a relaxing option to staying inside. In short, the house has everything you need and you cannot beat the location. Stay at Sideways, you won't regret the decision.

My family (including 4 yr old child) has stayed at this house more than once. It is charming, clean, quiet (as quiet as possible in the heart of campus), and so incredibly convenient. Despite being 110 yrs old, you have modern bath and fully equipped kitchen! Will stay again! We are Sewanee Alumni.
