This beautiful apartment is located on the second floor (no elevator!) of a renewed building on the street Calçada do Conde de Penafiel, very close to the São Jorge Castle, Baixa and Alfama.

Nearby you have various forms of traditional Portuguese commerce, and from there you can easily reach most of the popular sightseeing spots in Lisbon.

Apartment is located at the Castle S. Jorge district. S. Jorge is located in the hills of the historic centre of the city and is one of the main historic and tourist sites of the city.

This location has easy access to Baixa, the Castle (S. Jorge) district and also to Alfama and to Santa Clara, where Lisbon's flee-market (Feira da Ladra) takes place. It is also close to some of the stops of the famous tram number 28. This is a scenic route crossing most of the tourist neighborhoods of the city centre. A definite must for any visitor to Lisbon.

From Baixa you can easily access the nigh life district Bairro Alto and the smart Chiado, with all his theatres, museums, elegant and traditional shops, bars and restaurants.

To the other direction, going up street, you will accede Graça and Santa Clara the place where Feira da Ladra (Thief's market ), the flea market, happens every Tuesdays and Saturdays.

From its windows you will enjoy one amazing view over Lisbon and the river Tejo.

This sunny apartment has 85m2 and has been tastefully renovated to include:
- a bedroom with double bed (140 cm wide);
- a bedroom with two bunk beds;
- a living room with a sofa-bed, Cable TV, DVD player, and High-Fi stereo and dining area;
- a kitchen with all you need including electric oven and stove, fridge with freezer, microwave, washing machine;
- a fresh terrace communicating with the kitchen; It is perfect to rest and refresh after a summer day;
- a bathroom with shower.

The apartment has air conditioning for cold and warm in the sitting room and the main bedroom. There are electric heaters for the other rooms.

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “Vinho Verde”. You will also find in the apartment various CDs with typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

  • We stayed at Paulo's apartment in Lisbon in early September 09. When I made the reservation for 3 night I told him that I would be arriving a couple of hours earlier than the check-in time and offered to pay extra. He said that would not be a problem since there were no guests the previous night and told us that it should not be a problem and declined extra charges. I have done many VRBO rentals and that was a first. We were met on arrival by one of the property managers, Filippe. Apart from showing us around he had helpful suggestions on nearby attractions, public transportation and restaurants. There was even a 24h number to reach him, The apartment was a short uphill hike from the nearest metro station and was in the 3rd level. By making a several trips to and from the apartment we felt we got the exercise we needed to burn all the extra calories gained from the sweet pastries and other food&wine we consumed :-) The apartment itself was well maintained and had more than enough room for the two of us. We enjoyed the view from the ceiling to floor windows so much we ended up sleeping in the living room using a mattress from the bunk bed. With open windows it was noisy till early morning hours but we were probably too intoxicated from wine to notice :) We did find it unusual that the road cleaning and garbage pick up happens in the middle of the night (which was the cause of the noise). We were walking distance to most attractions and restaurants in Alfama. When it was time to leave we wished we had more time there. If we ever come back to Lisboa we will sure to stay at this delightful apartment in probably the best part of Lisboa.

  • My wife and I stayed in this apartment for five nights during the second week of May 2009. The apartment suited us very well. Were jet lagged when we arrived and aprreciated being met personally and on time by the agent. He spoke perfect English and answered our many questions about the neighbourhood, the shops, the restaurants, the subway and so on. What a wonderful surprise to open up the three sets of floor to ceiling doors and look out onto the Straw Sea. The view is exceptional. We ate breakfast on a table tucked up against those windows. We ate suppers on the tiny cool terrace at the back of the apartment. The apartment was well equipped. Best of all was the location. It was an easy five minute walk to the Baixa. At least it was easy for quite fit people. We are talking serious hills. Going to Baixa is mostly down. Coming back is a climb (remember the view!) and then a three floor walk-up. It's about 12 minutes walk to the subway. The restaurants in Alfama are 10-15 minutes away by foot and we never felt insecure, although we took care. Each night we left every window open and never turned on the air-conditioning. We wish that we could have turned off the street noise from about 11 pm to 2 am and that was bothersome on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There is a social club up the hill and a bar down the hill about 100 metres away. The patrons enjoy the street as much as the bar. But not bad enough that we would not go back. At other times, this is a very quiet neighbourhood. We much preferred this nice apartment to any hotel and it is a bargain at the price.
