Location: Man-O-War Cay, Abaco Islands, Bahamas, Caribbean (overlooking Atlantic Ocean to the west; Sea Of Abaco to east)
Accommodations: House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-6)
Keywords: House
Your beach is IMMEDIATELY outside your back door, and your bay (with your own dock) is IMMEDIATELY outside your front door. Your property extends 100 feet shore-to-shore, from a lovely and pristine beach ocean-side to a quiet bay on the westside. From the open-air patio suitable for private sunning, stargazing, or coffee at sunrise, you have a picturesque view through palm trees of waves breaking over a bountiful coral reef, less than a mile off-shore. Between the reef and your toes is the warm and translucent gulf-stream water floating north from the equator (providing abundant marine life) and the finest sugar-sand. Just lift your head from your bed to see the sunrise along an endless ocean horizon. After a full day of exploring and/or relaxing, savor every moment of the western sunset from the stable crow's nest.
Truly idyllic: no cars, no bars, no hotels on this small but well-functioning island. The settlement, a pleasant 15 minute walk down the Queens Highway path, is comprised of gracious, hard-working English-Bahamians whose primary industry is hand-crafted boat building. You'll enjoy walking through this village of artisans, and find keepsakes to treasure memories of the adventure, beckoning your return.
The charming home you're in is comprised of three rooms: 1) the Great Room of living, dining, and fully functional kitchen, 2) bathroom with shower, and 3) a master bedroom with queen size bed and storage closet. Great Room has four daybeds, which are couches that double as sleeping bunks with wooden storage space under each. All sides of home have abundant windows for viewing the natural land and water surroundings, which can also be seen from each of the bunks.
Man-0-War Cay is easy to access from the States: a one-hour airplane flight from the east coast of Florida to the town of Marsh Harbour on Abaco, then a quick taxi ride through town to the ferry docks, where a 20 minute water taxi disembarks you to paradise!

What a beautiful vacation site! Every window has breathtaking ocean and bay views. The only sounds you hear are the surf, the palm trees, and the birds. The window at the head of your bed is steps from the ocean. Perfect sleeping every night! It is an ideal vacation spot, so restful and relaxing. Watching the stars from the Crow's Nest is magical. The people on Man O War Cay, Bahamas, are so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is that of stepping back in time. We loved every minute. The Berry Patch has a beautiful private beach to walk on and lovely dock seats to sit and watch the sunset. Lots of places to explore and shops to visit in town. But we spent most of our time right in the peace and privacy of The Berry Patch. So many activities, swimming, boating, bird watching, hiking, fishing, beach combing, reading, star gazing, and enjoying the outstanding views are all such fun here. Know I have left so many activities out. The cottage is lovely and so well equipped. Everything we needed was there. The owners were so helpful and made the trip and stay so easy. There is an outstanding library right at the cottage. We especially loved the local interest and history books that were available. This was our first time at The Berry Patch and will now become an annual event. This beautiful place so exceeded our expectations. Thank you for the best vacation ever!
Owner response:We're so pleased that people enjoy the Berry Patch as much as we do. It's a very special place.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

"The Berry Patch is that special place one goes to relax, to recharge, to escape and to reconnect with your family or traveling companions. The Berry Patch is reminiscent of the family cottage - comfortable, compact, full of "memories" and geared towards the outdoors. There are several restaurants in the Settlement, however we tend to do most of our cooking "on the premesis" Half of our planning for the trip is for meals - what to bring and what to buy locally - we have our Berry Patch trips down to a science - taxi from the airport - stop at the liquor store, stop at the grocers, get to the ferry, take a golf cart with our stuff from the Settlement, and within 30 minutes we unpack and are ready to hit the beach. While staying at the Berry Patch we had several "challenges" per day - what to eat, whether to float on the ocean or bayside and whether to dress for dinner (meaning combing ones hair). You have to be careful crossing the Queens Highway from the dock to the house - it is a sand path one golf cart wide and on a busy day maybe 6-8 "vehicles" will pass! We personally love having our morning coffee sitting on the dock (or floating in the water) listening to the "Backup on the Palmetto" from the Miami radio stations. I read a book a day while at the Berry Patch (probably 1/3 of the library is my contribution to paradise); my husband paints and I also do needlework - while working on a world class tan. For the active there are many things to do on Man-O-War and in the Abacos. Almost all are water related - and what water - so clear and blue - sigh...boating, snorkeling, sailing, scuba, body surfing, and fishing - other islands are minutes away, the fish are plentiful and oh so beautiful - to see and eat - and the stars keep you up at night they are so close and so big! Artists are a plenty in this land of beauty and their wares are wonderful. We have been visiting the Berry Patch since about 1989 or 90 (who can keep track at this point) and have done our pilgramage there approx 16 or 18 times and have introduced over a dozen Patchites to the place. Anyone who spends time at the Berry Patch becomes part of "the Family" If you are looking for a place of peace - this is your little piece of heaven - if you are expecting 5 star service - look elsewhere there are no phones or TV's or concierges - however we have been all over the world looking for another "Berrypatch" and it does not exist! Hurry - not many places are heaven on earth!"
Owner response:You, too could feel 'at home' in the Berry Patch on Man O War Cay. It's that kind of island and that kind of cottage. The beauty and tranquillity are refreshments for the soul.

We have visited Man-O-War Cay and stayed at The Berry Patch for almost 5 years. It is an idyllic location and destination. There is not one thing to dislike. We have always visited in January or February. The weather is cool in the evening and sunny and warm during the day. It is a complete getaway. There is quiet, there are stars, there are starfish. Who could ask for more? The cottage is quaint, and very much in tune with other island homes. It is small, but very open and adequate. The kitchen is well-equipped, and all of the facilities are in top notch shape. There is an electric knife which is reserved for cutting fresh, homemade bread made by an islander named Lola. She delivers it daily to your door or at the marina. The cottage is very clean, and very spacious for napping and lounging. There are plenty of comfy chairs, couches, and rockers. With a view of the unbelievably blue Atlantic out one door and the waters of The Bay of Abaco out the other, you are never at a loss for breathtaking scenery. The view from the bed in the bedroom looks like a postcard..with palm trees, sand, and blue blue waters. The owners have left plenty of books and some cards and games. We have always rented a golf cart, which makes the entire island, although not big, very accessible to us. We really enjoy riding everywhere on the island. My husband is an avid birder, and he finds the birding to be terrific with many unusual, unique species for an Ohio birder. The golf cart gives us access to the areas where he thinks birds would be located. The residents of the island are very friendly, from the Postmistress to the ladies at the sailmaker shop. There are a few shops, and two grocery stores, but a trip to The Berry Patch is not about shopping. The cottage is not hard to maintain, so cleaning and housework are not in the equation for this vacation. The dark, knotty pine walls are warm and the charm of the cottage is hard to describe adequately. If you want to visit other nearby islands, that is possible for a day of adventure and island hopping. Fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving are also options. We vacation often and travel a lot, and this is by far one of our favorite cottages and islands. We stay longer each year and grow more fond of it with each visit. Unless you are "into" condos and swimming pools, this is the place for you. Take your camera. Take your books.......or a Kindle as it's easier to carry all the books you'll read at The Berry Patch.
Owner response:If you want fantastic water to view or play in and on you can see the Berry Patch is the place to go with a beautiful beach right out the door it can't be beat.
