Location: Genesee, Shasta Cascade, California, USA (2 hours from Reno, and 30 minutes from Lake Almanor)
Accommodations: Rustic Cabin On a River, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 16-18)
Take advantage, of a fabulous opportunity to plan" the ultimate" reunion or retreat. The property, is nestled within a secluded meadow, at the base of Grizzly Peak, in Genesee. Genesee Valley is one of the most scenic mountain valleys in Northern California. The guest cabin sits on the edge of a spring fed pond, steps away from Indian Creek. As the creek approaches the property it opens into a very large open pool, as seen in the VRBO pictures. This creates an ideal setting to enjoy quiet water sports throughout summer and fall.
Our guests enjoy reliving childhood "camp" memories. They look forward to the fresh mountain air and spending their days kayaking, hiking, swimming, fishing, biking or just relaxing with a good book. As evening approaches friends and family often play games or enjoy campfire conversations and songs. Others may choose to compete in volleyball, horseshoes, capture the flag, or ping-pong. We have found that many of our previous guests remained on the property for the entire week. Some, however chose to take advantage of short excursions to mountain lakes, waterfalls, antique stores, museums, and lunch outings. The cabin’s guest book is full of great ideas for adventures. For those that have never visited Lassen National Park we recommend taking the beautiful hour drive. The Volcanic Park, offers opportunities to closely view mud pots, boiling lakes and an array picturesque mountain lakes. Purchase your t-shirt, "I climbed a volcano" after hiking to the peak of Mount Lassen. (Our twin sons climbed it in four hours, when they were just four years old) Much closer to camp, you can visit Antelope Lake, Lake Almanor, several small mountain lakes, antique stores, Indian Falls, museums, and many hiking, biking, or horse trails. A fun family bike ride(or drive) to Genesee Store is a must during the week. The store is 3 miles away. It was built in the late 1800s and offers great sandwiches and sodas, which you can enjoy, by sitting on an old fashion porch, looking out at the picturesque valley beyond.
This 32-acre camp adjoins thousands of acres of U.S. Forest Service land, unapproachable by vehicle. This beautiful piece of land is the current “camp” site for Barefoot Boys, a Sierra Nevada youth organization based in Reno, Nevada, created by David and Colleen Murray (your hosts). When you rent the camp you will have access to the entire property, as well as the kayaks, canoes, and outdoor games. Small groups, small organizations or businesses and large families will have an opportunity to “create” the ultimate camp experience with their own children or special group. The A-Frame cabin is about 2000 square feet and has intentionally been furnished simply, without a television or a computer. Instead it is equipped with plenty of games, puzzles, and classic books to encourage evening conversations and family fun. The two main bedrooms are actually “dorm-style” rooms. Most of the beds in the cabin are twin beds and many others are just cot-style bunks. We also offer 3 RV spaces near the cabin. This option makes it possible for large multi-age reunions to take place, in which older adults may want to participate in the “camp-theme”, but require a more private comfortable personal space to sleep. The cabin’s kitchen is nicely equipped with all the necessities for up to 16 guests. A large dining table is provided, seating up to 16 as well. Bedding and towels are the guest's responsibility. We recommend a sleeping bag for each person. As mentioned previously, the large sleeping areas (or bedrooms) are “dorm-style” with 4-6 beds to a room. Another popular sleeping option, especially for the kids, is the outdoor (14x20sqft) canvas “cowboy cabin”.
With fishing, birding, boating, swimming, meadow exploration, and mountain hikes steps away from the cabin you are sure to have a great week! The wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate spotting the rare river otters, osprey, a blue heron, and sometimes an eagle on their early morning walks.
While, planning traditional evening skits, ping-pong competitions, and s’mores around a campfire will almost guarantee a successful week, leaving all media behind will definitely help you discover new connections with friends and family in a setting that just can’t be beat! So book your trip now, saving 10 % before March 1rst, and plan on the most meaningful vacation you may ever have!
