Why the Owner Chose Hood River

We were looking for a vacation home on the West Coast in beautiful country but not too far from a city. After reading about it in the book, "1,000 Places To See Before You Die" we were convinced this was for us with its waterfalls, skiing, hiking and wineries. And its proximity to Portland, one of my favorite cities. The town of Hood River is just the right size with with plenty to offer.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We love the modern open plan of the house including an airy lower level with a second deck for kids and adult activities. The location is just outside of the town on a lovely country road that is great for walking and even cross country skiing.
We also like to cook and eat great food, all available in Hood River at their Farmers Market and restaurants. We are wine lovers and my husband will be happy to map out a wine tasting tour.
We have employed a professional rental manager, a long time resident, who will take care of all of your needs including your reservation, discounts to attractions etc.

A
Town of Hood River

Great town for all your gourmet and outdoor adventure needs as well as an abundance of cafes and unique stores.

B
Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort

About 15 minutes south on this road will get you to a well equipped, well organized ski resort with a breathtaking view of Mt Hood. There are several beautiful cross- country ski parks on the way.

Owner's Map of Hood River

We were looking for a home away from home for us to share with my brother's family who live in Los Angeles. We now live in Atlanta and we wanted access to snow and cooler summers! We always loved the West Coast and with one family member already living in Hood River this was the perfect place!

First, we look back on our stay at Fir Mountain as one of our finest vacations in the last eighty years (my wife Ruth and I celebrated the year of our eightieth birthdays, along with our 52nd wedding anniversary). Your beautiful Escape had much to do with that, because of the trees, the views, the animals (our grandson woke us early the first morning to make sure we could see the two mama deer nursing their little ones), and the architecture and comforts of the house itself. The surrounding orchards and vineyards lent still more charm to the week, as did our various side trips: Mount Hood, Horsetail Falls, long hikes (one of six miles), our first rock-climbing expedition--a considerable adventure for two octogenarians--, and explorations in the inviting town of Hood River. Against all this our tiny complaints seem niggling and hardly worth mentioning. We enjoyed the deck outside the dining area immensely, but our enjoyment was mixed with some frustration over all the drippings from the trees, about which your instructions give fair warning. But I do not share the idea of some of your previous guests that the offending trees should be removed. We all love trees too much to add our voices to that suggestion. In sum, you have every right to be very proud of what Fir Mountain Escape has to offer. Thank you for having it available. And for having done everything with such exquisitely good taste.Gratefully,Tom

More than we imagined!

My sons and I recently enjoyed a week of sheer bliss in this beautiful home. The house and its surrounds offered so much more than we expected! The location was perfect for allowing us easy and picturesque access to countless adventures - Hood River, Mount Hood, Portland, the countless water fall hikes. The home itself became our special tranquil refuge after a long day out. We found ourselves hurrying “home” before sunset to take in the glorious views of Mount Hood and Mount Adams, and to enjoy the open sky from the hot tub. The master has a very inviting workspace in the attached office. The view from the desk window, along with a fresh cup of local brew actually made the dreaded deed pleasant! The house was well- equipped and tastefully decorated making it all the more comfortable. My family enjoyed our stay at our “house of respite” and we will definitely plan a return visit.

My family and I are back from your lovely home. We had a great time, the weather was great, the view unbelievable and the house is just stunning. You have it wonderfully supplied and designed. It is really a terrific location, particularly for a summer getaway. We came with our extended family, sister, brother, parents and a few kids. There is plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen is open and comfortable, so all could help in the meal preparation. The two decks have stunning views of Mt Adams and the Hood River valley. It is far enough away from the town that you have privacy and view, but near enough that you can go shopping etc. Half of our family went kayaking and rafting. The other went sight seeing, biking and hiking. Lots to do and see and a great place to do it from. We are returning with my kids who went back East for the summer this Fall. Can't wait!
