We were more than pleased when we arrived at Portzvue Villa! We found it to be a very clean, contemporary, tastefully decorated home. The home is very family friendly - not a bunch of clutter that kids can get into. Twin beds in bedrooms are great for kids. Bathrooms in each bedroom are a bonus. All the kitchen appliances were clean and worked well. The pool is very clean, private and comfortable and watching the monkeys come and go was special. The area is quiet and feels safe. Heywoods beach is only a five minute walk and Speightstown is about a 15 to 20 minute walk, so it's not difficult to get groceries. Sonia, the housekeeper was always on call if we needed information or assistance. We truly enjoyed our stay and found it very easy to make ourselves at home!

Finally my review about Portzvue. What can I say, we had a fantastic time at Portzvue it was as described a home from home. The villa was well equipped with pretty much everything you could think of and it was very clean and tidy on arrival, but not clinically. Sonia and Ali were absolutely wonderful. They went out of their way to be accommodating and made sure that we were comfortable and acted swiftly to sort any little problems that we had. My kids took to calling Sonia 'Aunty Sonia' because they liked her so much, which says alot. The pool and jauczzi were perfect and provided hours of entertainment when we couldn't be bothered to go anywhere. The location was perfect with both Speightown and Almond beach only a short distance away. The following aspects could be improved: 1) Although the kitchen is very well equipped it only had two saucepans which were very small. Having three young children is it not feasible or practcal to eat out which meant that I ended up burrowing pots. 2) The Living area of the house is extremely warm and when cooking in the kitchen it gets pretty unbearable. The fact that the below window in the kitchen could not open added to the problem. 3) The kids and I were looking forward to being able to playing the Wii and even brought some games with us, but unfortunately we could not get it to work. 4) The shutters are a lovely stylish touch but they seem to add to the heat upstairs especially in the kitchen. However, these things said none of them prevented us from having an enjoyable time at Portzvue so much so that we are hoping to go later in this year if its available.

We were away on business (and lots of Pleasure!!!) on the island and if I were to recommend any place to stay this would be it!! Air conditioned rooms, gorgeous pool and Jacuzzi.......loved it!!! Sonia who looks after the place is adorable and Ali (Sonia's son-in-law) was very helpful during our first few days to help us settle in (and a very messy night in Moontown!!). A walk from the beach, a walk from central Speightstown (Recommend Orange Grove for some lunch). A generally awesome adventure on a beautiful island with amazing people and everything is just a short ride away be it Bridgetown, Holetown, The Gap etc. Many thanks for being so welcoming Barbados, Much Love.

We had an amazing time at Portzvue; we were 2 couples with 3 kids (10 to 16 y.o.). The house has plenty of space and is simply, but very tastefully decorated. The bedrooms are comfortable, with lots of closet space. The 4 bathrooms are nice, clean and well maintained. There's a huge living room upstairs, with the kitchen and giving onto the balcony and terrace. We especially enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace, looking towards the sea and the evenings spent sitting on the balcony, under the bright full moon and starry sky, playing bridge and having a nice glass of wine. The pool is also great, especially at noon, when the beach is too hot. The neighborhood is quiet, with lots of vegetation (beautiful bougainvilleas), no traffic. Heywoods Beach is a 5-minute, easy walk away; the only thing (for people with children) is that one has to cross a street, but the beach is splendid: fine sand, places to swim and snorkel (so many tropical fish!) The only downside is that there are no beach chairs/umbrellas to rent. Our children were thrilled to see the 10-12 green monkeys walking on the wall behind the pool, almost every morning and afternoon. There are other beaches within short driving distance; (e.g.,Mullins Beach). If you rent a car (and don't mind driving on the *wrong* side :-)), then there are quite a few things to see: we'd recommend the Animal Flower Cave at North Point, Harrison’s Cave, and the magnificent Cattlewash/Bathsheba Beach. A 15-minute walk or a very short drive takes you to Speightstown, where there's a market for fresh fish and fruit, supermarkets, a very good bakery (forgot the name, across from the La Bouche restaurant), great ice-cream parlour (close to the pharmacy), a pizza place, a fast-food (Cheffette). Many restaurants in and around Speighstown; FishPot is good, but pricey and you need to reserve early. There's a fish fry (Merton's) in Half-Moon Fort; good Bajan food with a beautiful view on the sea. The bottom line is that we’ll treasure this vacation that had one single flaw: it was too short. Many heartfelt thanks to Chris, who let us rent his beautiful house, and also to Sonia, who was always available and helpful, from our (very late) arrival to our departure.

Portzvue is a beautiful vacation home, but my biggest disappointment was that you can't actually see the port from here. ( Well, maybe if you look hard ) Sonia, the housekeeper is excellent and keeps the house nice and clean. The private pool is a treat, as are the family of monkeys that come by once or twice a day. Probably the most annoying thing for me was all the yappy dogs in the neighbourhood. This property is located in a residential subdivision and pretty much everyone has at least one dog. The garbage truck comes by around 4am, so if you're staying in the master bedroom, you will be woke up. Having a car is an absolute must. If you decide to visit, be sure to visit the Fish Pot Restaurant in nearby Moontown. It's expensive, but so is every other restaurant on the island. At least this one is good. The best value restaurant we found was in Holetown, and called Zaccios.

Hi Chris, Thank you very much for letting us rent your beautiful home in Barbados. At first i have say i was thrown off by the location, but after i walked around the neighborhood and to the beach, i realized how amazing the property was and how close everything was. You are absolutely correct, the beach is only a 5 minute walk, when you go the right way. My family and i enjoyed our stay very much, Your house was perfect for our stay, very spacious and it had everything we needed, especially for our two little boys. Our own private pool and jacuzzi was a real treat. Sonya, the housekeeper was truly a sweetheart, she made sure we had everything we needed to make our trip unforgettable. She even got us a play pack and a stroller for the kids, which was a life savior. Ali was awesome, he drove us around the island and brought us to the hottest hot spots and great restaurants, He even took my wife to the doctors when she wasn't feeling well, what service. Again thank you for everything, i will definitely recommend your villa to anyone and everyone who is interested in going to your beautiful island. We will be back, and i will be staying here again. Raed Ayoub and Family P.S. Ali was referred to us from Sonya, we paid him directly for his services!

thought it was about time i wrote review for this property, so here goes. this was our second visit to portzvue in 2 years, the villa is beautiful, big, bright and very spacious.decorated very nicely and has everything you could need for a perfect holiday. outside there is a great pool and jacuzzi for chilling in with a crate of banks beer. Also the wildlife in the garden is fantastic from whistling frogs to the local troop of monkeys that pass along back wall of garden ocassionally. The staff are lovely people whom we found very helpful and polite, sonia who looks after portzvue is a star, nothing was to much trouble from taking us to supermarket on arrival to cooking an arrival meal for us last year when we returned to get married. the neighbours are very friendly so dont be afraid to speak to them,Dale who lives directly across from portzvue is a character whom we shared many a drink and laugh..if you need to know anything ask him, and if he offers to take you out on a bar crawl. go!! unforgettable night out.. the area where portvue is located is very nice and quiet also no worries regarding safety at all. i would recommend eating at the fish pot restaurant for lunch.. 5 mins away, or mango's by the sea in speightstown. 5 mins away.(got married here in 2011) some of the best food i have ever had, and the location is breathtaking. i have been to barbados 4 times now, twice in hotel and twice in portzve, and cant recommend the place enough to people,so much so were a returning to the island in may 2012 and yes we are returning to portzvue.(big thanks to chris & his wife). so if your reading reviews and wondering hmmm good review ,bad review what do i do? don't think about it just book it, you certainly wont be disappointed. ps i've just read last review regarding alarm problem and bed size. we had alarm go off a couple of times, but we just put in code and it stopped,no problems. as for bed size, surely if your on honeymoon you want your new wife to be as close to you as possible, and not at the other side of a monster sized bed !!! lol.....

We stayed at Portzvue this November for 15 nights for our Honeymoon and overall the experience was good, however there were a few issues. Positives: Ali met us on our arrival, which was great considering we did not get to the villa until around 11pm; he was very helpful and accommodating. He was happy to help us out with advice to get us going on our holiday and came by to check on us a couple times during the trip. He was also very helpful in resolving some of the issues we had our first couple of days. The villa is located as described in the ad, a short walk or drive to both Heywoods beach and Speightstown. Speightstown has a Jordans grocery store where you can pick up pretty much anything you'll need for your stay. As well with the villa being located on the west side of the island, it is not as windy and the sea is much calmer. The backyard pool/jacuzzi are great and we spent a lot of time there. The kitchen has everything you need to cook for yourselves during your trip, and there's also a bbq in the back yard. Negatives: It is advertised that there is a King bed, however there is not. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and the other two bedrooms have two single beds each. Though the overall stay was positive despite this, the lack of a King bed was very disappointing for us and would have disqualified Portzvue from our possible selections. Some construction work is happening somewhat close to the villa (not close enough that you can really hear anything though, don't worry) and we experienced a couple of power outages due to the construction. The power outage would have been fine, but an extremely loud and shrill alarm was going off because of it, and we had no way of turning it off. The only phone is cordless, so it does not work when the power is out either. The power came back on after about 30 mins, but even then we were unable to call out as there was a billing problem (which was sorted out by Ali over the next couple days) with the phone company. The alarm system also needed a code to be put in after the power came back on, but there was no info in the book provided about the alarm or the code. Ali got this fixed as well and helped us disconnect the loud alarm/siren in case of any further power outages. Some of the lounge chairs in the back are broken, which was not an issue for the two of us, but if you had more people some would have to use the broken loungers. A few house repairs are also needed (broken shutters, etc.)

This house had everything I could possibly need, a pool to swim in, a jacuzzi to relax in, living accomadation that is first class, a tv for the occasional rainy spell (with cable) and a Wii, views towards the caribbean sea. A simple stroll to speightstown for any shopping, and of course buses 5 minutes walk away should you want to go further. For lunch or evening I recommend "Lonestar" for something that little bit different, but beside golden sands, excellent staff and great food - my favourite is the shrimp and lobster salad, another great place near by is "The Fishpot" always excellent food and service. All in all this out of 50 visits to Barbados was one of the best, I was totally relaxed in this lovely villa, and felt 100% safe even being alone. I have already booked for next year - that alone should tell you just how great this villa is - you also have a lovely house manager Sonia, and Charmaine such a sweet maid. In all honesty I cannot rate this trip high enough, thanks to Chris and his beautiful house, I look foward to many visits in the future
