Location: Baileys Harbor, Door County, Northeast, Wisconsin, USA

Accommodations:  House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 8-11)

Keywords:  House

Rocky Bottom Lodge, located just south of downtown Baileys Harbor, was one a several homes built during the 1920's and 1930's along Chapel Lane by families desiring a summer retreat from the heat in Chicago and Milwaukee. The cool breezes of Lake Michigan certainly delivered for them and the temperature differential between the shore and just one quarter mile inland can be substantial. Rocky Bottom was built in stages to its current configuration, the last addition of a first floor master bedroom added in the late 1960's.

Accommodations include a master bedroom with a king bed, a bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with two twin beds and two full baths in the main lodge. Also, there is a bath and three twin beds located above the garage and a queen sofa sleeper and full bath in the boathouse. There are fireplaces in both the main lodge and boathouse which also has a full wet bar with icemaker, sink, a seating area in front of the fireplace, and a sun room with spectacular views over Baileys Harbor and Lake Michigan. There is also a sound system in the boathouse.

Direct TV satellite service is available in the sun room and living room of the main lodge. There is also a stereo receiver in the living room. The kitchen has a large refrigerator/freezer, new electric range with convection oven, dishwasher and coffee maker. There is a laundry room off the kitchen with a new washer and dryer.

Moving outside you will find expansive grounds for all kinds of lawn games and even a small tennis court to hit a few balls around. This is not a regulation court however. The boathouse has a large concrete pier to sit outside on, but due to low lake levels, jumping off the pier is strictly prohibited. Water shoes or sandals are recommended for entering the rocky shore while sand beaches are located at both the north and south ends of Baileys Harbor. You can also walk to Maxwelton Braes Golf Club (open to the public).

Dogs are welcome as is the use of the two run Kennel located near the garage. If your pets tend to bark a lot, please do not leave them unattended so as not to disturb the neighbors.

*** All stays less than 1 week or overlapping designated turnover day during peak season are subject to approval.

Had a Great Time

The house is great, lots of room and the rooms are laid out to provide some privacy. The view of the lake is beautiful. It has a nice sized yard if you want to play some outdoor games. Got lots of use out of the fire pit. It's also a great place to bring your bike. Only a short ride to downtown Bailey's Harbor. Only things that weren't so great was the sofa bed in the boat house, not very comfortable, and the shoreline. I went out and bought aqua socks as the description suggested but the shore and several yards out was a very nasty green soup. I would highly recommend this place for a get away, just don't plan on taking a dip in the lake.

My family stayed at the house, it had some good features but smelled musty inside. The boat house was beautiful but the sofa bed was broke and terribly uncomfortable. There are also no window treatments so if you plan to sleep in there, plan to be up early in the morning! There were spider webs & bugs in the corners all over, the housekeeping could have been a little better. Oh and if you plan to bring your pet, the book in the house says you can't let is urintate or poop on the property, you have to walk it down the road. How is thqat for convenient! Yes you can bring your dog but you have to walk down the road to let it relieve itself, how stupid!
