As soon as I stepped through the door of the Pennacook House I felt comfortable and at home. All the amenities you need are provided and the location of the house is perfect. Even though it was off-season and a number of the shops weren't open yet I still found plenty to do in the area. I was lucky to have sunshine everyday and got to enjoy many walks. Martha's Vineyard at this time of year is very relaxing and just what I was looking for. The owner, Rebecca, was very helpful and provided all the necessary information (and I received my deposit back very quickly). Beautiful island and house!! Thank you.Did you find this review helpful? This year was our second time to spend a week at Pennacook House.Every aspect of the house is exceptional.1. Located well within walking distance of the center of Oak Bluffs,5 minutes maybe.2. The street is quiet and the house is next to a church on one side and the back of the property backs up to the parking lot of the church (well protected for privacy).3 The house has all amenities that one would expect, especially for small children.4. The house has full baths on the 2nd and 3rd floor, providing a quiet refuge for grandparents on the 3rd floor.5.The home was spotless upon our arrival and Peter the local rep is quite responsive.6.and lastly the owners are great to deal with!!!!Owner response: So glad you love our home! We look forward to having you again next year.

We were two families with four children total (ages 15, 10, 4, 2). The house was perfect for our needs - plenty of space for everyone, walking distance to the beach, a two minute walk to the main street in Oak Bluffs with all of the shops, cafes, etc., and an easy drive to all of the Martha's Vineyard sites. We loved our stay and would highly recommend the property to others. The owner was extremely pleasant and responsive.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.

After over 40 years of travel, both domestic and international, and having domiciled in ten different countries, we feel qualified to say that the Pennacook experience has been the closest to being a “home away from home.” Notwithstanding the pure comfort of the house with all its amenities, the walking proximity to all the excitement of Oak Bluffs downtown, the campground’s 1800’s rainbow-colored Victorian houses and the short distance to the Atlantic, it was the community ambience enhanced by the large front porch seating that made our stay unforgettable. Chatting with next door neighbors and walking folks, we felt like lifelong neighbors. In answer to the question would we repeat such a venture at the Pennacook, the response is an unequivocal YOU BET! G & C Boulder, Colorado July 29, 2012Did you find this review helpful? My son graduated from college in Boston the end of May and my parents are getting up in age. I knew the drive to the graduation would be quite long from our home in upstate NY. Returning home right away would have been too much for them. They wanted to drive and refused to fly. Following the graduation I arranged the trip to Martha's Vineyard to savor our time together. Well, I must say arranging the trip to Martha's Vineyard was a great idea and staying at the Pennacook House was an even a better one, as it exceeded all expectations. The house was so neat, spacious and comfortable and much to the liking of my family of four, my mom, dad and sister. Everyone had their own bedroom. We grilled in the back yard, walked to town to shop and dine, played tennis a short block away, went to the beach and just had a fabulous time creating really special memories. Rebecca, the owner was quite accomodating and easily reachable for all of my questions. I highly recommend the Pennacook House for an especially comfortable and relaxing vacation. My new husband and I spent our Honeymoon week on Martha's Vineyard. We wanted a home in Oak Bluffs since this was our first visit to the island and wanted to explore the island... yet be within walking distance to restaurants, gingerbread campground, water and have our privacy too. We were not disappointed! All of our needs were met, and then some. The owner's were easy to work with and the pictures displayed on the site were true to life. We will most definitely request the Pennacook Home on our next trip to MV, with one exception, we will be bringing friends/family. It is a perfect home for entertaining with plenty of room inside (4 floors) a fabulous large and bright kitchen as well as a wonderful private back yard. Thank you for sharing your home with us. My husband, nine-year old son, and I enjoyed a week at the Pennacook House in early April. Even though (or maybe because) it was off-season in Martha's Vineyard, we had a wonderful, restful time there. Now, whenever the city stresses me out, I take a minute to remember our trip. The neighborhood was so peaceful, that sometimes we barely saw a soul. The house itself is huge and in great shape. We had more than enough room to putter around, but ended up congregating in the sunny, well-stocked kitchen much of the time. We also enjoyed the pool table in the basement and playing in the yard. When you need more room to run, there's a big park with a playground a block away, and the beach is only about 3 blocks from the house. Downtown Oak Bluffs is also right there in walking distance. Rebecca was so nice and easy to deal with. Everything was as noted in the contract, and she returned our security deposit promptly. We would gladly visit The Pennacook House again.Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed a peaceful get-away at our home. We'd love to have you back soon!

After you find an outstanding rental the last thing you want to do is write a glowing review. Right? This kills me. However, it wouldn't be right to hoard all the redonkulous fabulosity of this experience. The location of the Pennacook House could not be better. It's right down the street from Circuit Avenue and a two minute walk from Niantic Park. Most importantly, Back Door Donuts is super close. To the right of the house is a church and directly behind the house is the church parking lot, two huge positives. We never heard cars coming, or going, and enjoyed cutting through the lot to reach the backyard. It was nice having an unobstructed view of the park behind the house, too. The house itself is massive, almost too massive for two people but we loved it. The neighbors are fantastic, as well. You will not be exposed to a wild party here (unless it's your own). The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed and open with skylights. We loved playing pool in the basement. The bathroom mirror does not make you look fat. Would I rent this house again? Absolutely. Dealing with Rebecca is a piece of cake. Do yourself a favor and give her a call. I just pray you don't want my week.Owner response: I'm so glad you had a wonderful vacation at my home. Please come back soon!

Christmas at the Pennacook House on Martha's Vineyard could not have been more perfect. Our family enjoyed the large historic home and the proximity to area shopping and attractions. The house and location exceeded our expectations. We were able to walk to most shops, restaurants and the beach. The house was very clean and well maintained and the owners were a delight to work with. The only thing my family and I didn't like was having to come home so soon! We definitely recommend this property when considering a stay at Martha's Vineyard. Brenda L. The Woodlands, TXOwner response: We are so glad you loved our home and discovered what a delight the Island of Martha's Vineyard is during the holidays. The Pennacook House is a special place at every time of year and we love to share it in all the seasons. Sincerely, Rebecca and Ron

I almost don't want to write this review... After soooo many disappointing rentals throughout MA as well as MV, I selfishly want to keep this property a secret... But after much consideration, and the reminder that someone told me about this property; I feel compelled to share... What a great property / New England home. My family enjoyed every aspect of the accommodation and location. I am final a hero! So here goes: 1) No need to bring a car! You are walking distance to everything ie the village and the beach... The ability to not have to pack the car to go to the beach by itself is reason to rent this property. We loaded the red wagon which was there waiting for us (the owners seemed to think of everything) and just strolled a couple of blocks though these amazing cottages and there you are! 2) The price was reasonable. I felt I did not have to make a choice between the beach, the village, or my children's college fund to go on a great vacation with my family... The restaurants were wonderful and reasonably priced but we also took advantage of the great kitchen and huge dining room. 3) The home and location is everything New England, and even came with that cool New England Breeze at night through all the windows - that I will never forget. We took many bike rides (the weather was incredible) and took advantage of the local stores to package-up a couple of picnics. 4) We chose a great time of the year. We went at the end of June and yes we were concerned about the weather possibly being cool... But we were pleasantly surprised that the weather was perfect and found out from the locals that it is warm early and stays that way through the summer. An interesting note was that we found out this home is pretty popular with the locals and many have even had their families stay there for reunions. So I would not be hesitant in booking at anytime - but I have to admit June was beautiful...Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: The Pennacook House is a wonderful place for family gatherings, play and relaxation, with island activities for all ages right near by. Here I am collecting shells at the beach with my twins.
Why the Owner Chose Oak Bluffs:
My husband and I visited Martha's Vineyard in the spring of 1994 and fell in love with the island and the town of Oak Bluffs. We found the Pennacook House for sale, bought it and spent the next year completely renovating it. We love the island in winter, too! It's peaceful and ideal for long walks or cozying up on the couch with a Latte from Espresso Love.
