Our private guest house, "Red Windows" could be your home away from home while visiting this special area of coastal Maine. Brooksville is midway between Camden and Acadia National Park in a spectacular natural setting of fir trees, granite islands and shimmering water.  Brooksville is home to a unique community of artists, writers, potters, and organic gardeners. There are hiking trails, beaches, seals, and kayaking at every turn.

In nearby Blue Hill, Brooklin, Deer Isle and Stonington visit Kneisel Hall of Music, The Wooden Boat School, and Haystack School of Crafts. The surrounding area is known for excellent restaurants, art galleries and lovely shops. Brooksville has a local market, Buck's, with meat, organic vegetables, wine, and it's own restaurant.

In the past years of operating the guest house, we've met some very interesting people. We hope you will enjoy it as much as they did. Many of our guests return year after year and we continue to enjoy their friendships.

The house was designed by the owner/architect and has two levels.  The first floor, with private entrance, has a newly renovated, bright, and comfortable open plan with living, dining, and kitchen areas.  The large room on the second floor has a queen sized bed, two built-in Swedish beds for small children, and a bathroom with tub/shower.

The house is charming, with slip-covered furniture, pottery, artwork, a well equipped kitchen, wireless internet and good cell phone coverage. Of course, the best parts are the spectacular sunsets and views over Smith’s Cove to Castine Harbor and Penobscot Bay. A short walk takes you to a town boat launch and dock where you can swim, and put in kayaks or a boat.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

The beauty of the natural surroundings and the light. The views west to Penobscot Bay are very special and the sunsets are without equal.

Owner's Map of Brooksville

We moved to coastal Maine in 1995 after many wonderful years in the Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Annapolis areas. Our children had grown and we wanted a more natural way of life, still working as an architect and kitchen designer, and being able to see salt water, garden, and live in a small community. Brooksville Maine is exactly what we were looking for and has surpassed our expectations. Organic farming, artists, writers, and fishermen compose much of our area. The Blue Hill Peninsula has both culture and simple living.

From NYC to Brooksville

Staying at the Red Windows was an absolute treat. The cottage is gorgeous, very clean, bright and airy. It is nicely decorated and every detail in the house is well designed. The setting is breathtaking! One can see the sunset from the bedroom pillows, from the comfort of the living room, kitchen or dining area. There was no better way to relax than sitting on the patio with the soft breeze off the ocean, watching the sun carry across the bay. Our hosts, Peggy and Chris are the nicest people one can possibly meet. They were very friendly and knowledgeable on the area. We were invited twice to come over to their house for drinks and to watch never failing, magnificent sunsets. We felt like we were staying in a good friends’ home. Peggy and Chris were really welcoming and just getting to know them was definitely worth a visit. We highly recommend Red Windows for your next trip to Coastal Maine.

Wonderful, large, spacious cottage, overlooking water with terrific views toward Castine. Day or night, the view is spectacular. Great spot for walking and seeing nature in its uninterrupted form. Its location is an ideal spot to explore Blue Hill, Stonington, Deer Isle, and Acadia and the Schoodic Peninsula. The owners were helpful in suggesting places of interest which were beneficial in seeing the area. Great lobster possibilites in the immediate area, and lots of fresh produce. Glad I found Red Windows.

Our first trip to Maine was everything we had hoped it would be thanks to Peggy and Chris and Red Window Cottage. We relaxed each evening to incredible views of the cottage location is perfectly placed on the main coast to allow for easy drives to Acadia National Park and Camden for hiking and exploring. And did I mention the very comfortable bed?! Thanks Chris and Peggy for your company and great ideas for filling our days.

What a view!

This Brooksvile cottaged is as comfortable, clean, fully stocked and charming as any we have stayed in over the past 20 years coming to the this area. But what makes it a five star vacation is the extraordinary and diatand view west from the house as well as the patio -- to watch sunsets with your sangria -- and the unusually accomodating, friendly and knowledgabe host and hostess. We couldn't hope to do better (and the price is right).

We both thoroughly enjoyed our week at Red Windows. Chris and Peggy made us feel like friends staying for a visit rather than renters. The peace and tranquility of the setting as well as the view of the bay was just what we expected. The location makes for convenient day trips along scenic byways. The house has many artistic features, many of them created by Chris, as well as all modern amenities. It is bright and airy. High speed internet access was very good. We wouldn't change a thing and hope others will discover Red Windows for themselves.

We simply loved this place! The view of Castine across the bay is beautiful. Just sitting on the deck and watching the Maritime Academy sailing regattas, the gorgeous sunsets, or the city lights reflected on the water was enough to sooth any soul. Peggy and Chris are most gracious and made many worthwhile recommendations for great food, good shopping, and interesting sights. We highly recommend this lovely spot.

Our week at Red Windows was positively delightful. The setting is spectacular, with views out over the bay. The cottage itself includes some whimsical art and interesting design touches that make it feel very special. However, the real highlight of a stay at Red Windows is the opportunity to get to know Peggy and Chris who are wonderful hosts and very interesting people. We are grateful to them for their warm welcome, including and especially to our 11-year-old daughter.

The views of the water and the Islands were everything we hoped they would be. We took many fantastic day-trips from here: Acadia NP, Isle au Haut, Castine, but the highlight of our stay was watching the sun set over the islands and seeing the fireflies in the garden. This is a very comfortable house with everything we needed for a great visit- thanks Peggy and Chris!
