Location: Brooksville, Acadia, Maine, USA (Blue Hill, Castine, Stonington, Belfast, Bangor, Bar Harbor)

Accommodations:  Guest House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Our private guest house, "Red Windows" could be your home away from home while visiting the special area of coastal Maine. Brooksville is one hour north from Camden and one hour south from Acadia National Park in a spectacular natural setting of fir trees, granite islands and shimmering water.  Brooksville is home to a unique community of artists, writers, potters, and organic gardeners.  There are hiking trails, beaches, seals, and kayaking at every turn.

In nearby Blue Hill, Brooklin, Deer Isle and Stonington visit Kneisel Hall of Music, The Wooden Boat School, and Haystack School of Crafts. The surrounding area is known for excellent restaurants, art galleries and lovely shops.

This is the first year we are renting our guest house. The house was designed by the owner/architect and has two levels.  The first floor, with private entrance, has a newly renovated, bright, and comfortable open plan with living, dining, and kitchen areas.  The large room on the second floor has a queen sized bed, two built-in Swedish beds for small children, and a bathroom with tub/shower.

The house is charming, with slip-covered furniture, pottery, artwork, and a well equipped kitchen.   Of course, the best parts are the spectacular sunsets and views over Smith’s Cove to Castine Harbor and Penobscot Bay. A short walk takes you to a town boat launch and dock where you can swim, put in kayaks or a boat.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1995

We moved to coastal Maine in 1995 after many wonderful years in the Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Annapolis areas. Our children had grown and we wanted a more natural way of life, still working as an architect and kitchen designer, and being able to see salt water, garden, and live in a small community. Brooksville Maine is exactly what we were looking for and has surpassed our expectations. Organic farming, artists, writers, and fishermen compose much of our area. The Blue Hill Peninsula has both culture and simple living.

The Unique Benefits of this Guest House

The beauty of the natural surroundings and the light.

    • We simply loved this place! The view of Castine across the bay is beautiful. Just sitting on the deck and watching the Maritime Academy sailing regattas, the gorgeous sunsets, or the city lights reflected on the water was enough to sooth any soul. Peggy and Chris are most gracious and made many worthwhile recommendations for great food, good shopping, and interesting sights. We highly recommend this lovely spot.

    • Our week at Red Windows was positively delightful. The setting is spectacular, with views out over the bay. The cottage itself includes some whimsical art and interesting design touches that make it feel very special. However, the real highlight of a stay at Red Windows is the opportunity to get to know Peggy and Chris who are wonderful hosts and very interesting people. We are grateful to them for their warm welcome, including and especially to our 11-year-old daughter.

    • The views of the water and the Islands were everything we hoped they would be. We took many fantastic day-trips from here: Acadia NP, Isle au Haut, Castine, but the highlight of our stay was watching the sun set over the islands and seeing the fireflies in the garden. This is a very comfortable house with everything we needed for a great visit- thanks Peggy and Chris!

    • A perfect get-away ~ Truly feels like a home away from home ! Very secluded, yet close to Camden. The views are amazing! We'll be back for sure!
