- The beaches of Corolla have been cited as some of the best undiscovered beaches! This family-friendly, relaxed town has something to offer everyone. Some of the attractions Corolla is known for are the Currituck Lighthouse (climb to the top for a bird's eye view of Corolla), the historic Whalehead Club which is open for tours and offers a taste of historic Corolla, unique shopping at area boutiques, a movie theater, 2 grocery stores, Rees Jones designed golf course AND a Wildlife Nature center with interactive kids activities. Almost Paradise is located on the secluded, remote, 4x4-access beaches where the wild Spanish mustangs still roam free. Though most guests staying in the 4WD area prefer a quiet and relaxed week at the beach, should you choose to venture pack to the paved roads, Almost Paradise is a 30 minute ride to the historic Corolla Village, 45 minutes to the town of Duck, just over an hour to Nags Head and just over an hour and a half to Manteo on Roanoke Island.

A true paradise...no "almost" about it!

We stayed at this lovely home 7/17-7/24 for a family vacation. There were 6 adults and 5 kids ranging in ages from 2-12, and every one of us had a spectacular tiime! The house was just as advertised...perfectly situated just steps from the beach in the 4x4 secxtion of Corolla. The ride in and out was wild, but sooo worth it to see the horses wandering through the yard in the afternoon. The beach itself was magnificent, and the view from the three decks was unbelievable. The house offered everything we could ever hope for. It had a perfect pool right in the backyard, more movies than we could watch, and outdoor shower and a great kitchen stocked with every appliance we could need. There were a few gliches: there were only 2 TVs capable of getting actual stations, and the main one in the living room upstairs was tempermental. Sometimes we would have picture with no sound, sometimes we would have sound with no picture. The last day the sound went completely and even the realty guy couldn't figure it out. I owned the same TV myself, and had all kinds of problems with it, too, so I wasn't too surprised. The adults didn't mind the lack of a reliable TV as much, but the kids got irritated once in a while. The only other problem for families traveling with small children were all of the knick knacks throughout the house!! It was a beautifully decorated home for adults, but we spent a good part of the first day just going around and picking up all othe the lighthouses and ducks and shells and other little decorations that we were afraid the kids would break. Once we put them all out of reach, we had no more problems. The only other issue was when the pool people came mid week to check the pool, they didn't vacuum it, and we were told they would. Going back and forth between the beach and pool tracks all kinds of sand and other debris, so we were expecting the pool to be vacuumed when the people came by Wednesday, but they only added the chlorine and left. It would have been nice to have the pool cleaned as well. I wouldn't have minded doing it myself, had I known how! Overall, this house could not have been more perfect for us. Thank you to the owners and to Karichele Realty for allowing us to vacation in "Almost Paradise." It was an unforgetable week full of memories we will keep for a lifetime. The home was beautifully maintained inside, and set up for any vacationer to have the time of his/her life!
