A Unique Big Sur Property with Glorious Comfort & a Personalized Experience! We love living in Big Sur and our aim is to delight every guest!

This is a place to be yourself and enjoy the natural wonders of our area. The night sky is incredible through the many sky lights and the daytime view includes the ocean and hills, redwoods, red tailed hawks, hummingbirds and condors.

It has been said that spending two nights here is like having been on a two week vacation - the way body and mind can relax. One of the healthiest places I have ever been ... which is why we live here too.

Sometimes the sun is warm to hot on a lazy day and the red tail hawks soar above us. Sometimes the fog (or fogtide as my husband calls it) flows into and out of the canyons from the sea and creates a sea of fog below us… and occasionally it covers us in a lovely cool cloud. In the winter the storms can be magnificent and some of our guests come here just to experience them!

The spacious (900 sq ft) cabin is made of redwood & glass. It has a floor to ceiling river rock fireplace, skylights across the entire length of the ceiling, a spa/shower/tub combination with a skylight and windows, and a radiantly heated floor. One entire side (except for the fireplace) opens on a private deck with views to the ocean, redwoods and hills. This is a PERFECT spot for a couple on a get-a-way, vacation, romantic tryst, honeymoon or just wanting and making some 'us' time!

We customize each visit to our guest’s preferences. This include choices on sheets (high count cotton or soft flannel) and your personalized selection of groceries so you can make breakfast in the privacy of your own place and linger in bed or on the deck (eggs, bacon, cereal, toast, scones, coffee, tea, milk/cream/creamer/sugar or substitute, scones, etc.). The guest house has a full kitchen and there is a Weber gas grill available. There is all the wood for the fireplace that you could want or need. We have high speed internet, Wi-Fi & Direct TV (also DVR, DVD and an IPOD player) and an extensive library of books as well as hiking information and much about Big Sur.
If you like we will also give you, as a gift, John’s locally famous Pots de Crème au Chocolate Noir desserts for your enjoyment.

We are N of Pfeiffer Beach, W of Hwy 1, on Pfeiffer Ridge, facing the ocean. Centrally located, we are very private but also within 15-20 minutes of Deetjen's, Nepenthe, Ventana, Post Ranch, Pfeiffer State Park, Henry Miller Library, The Bakery, Molera, River Inn, Pfeiffer Beach. Esalen is 20 miles S of us. This also means we are near most of the best restaurants in the area such as Post Ranch, Big Sur Bakery, Ventana and more.

We prefer to handle inquiries personally so please email or call us and we'll send information to respond to specific issues and/or interests.

We really do work at delighting our guests. We enjoy doing it and meeting really interesting and wonderful people over the years. We hope you will come and visit and return home relaxed and happy. And return again as most of our guests do.

It was hard to ever leave the comfort and beauty of this guest house. The views from the house are simply awe inspiring. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck during the day, watching sea and fog, then warming up by fireplace each night. The wall to wall skylights are unlike anything I have ever seen, and indoor star gazing was a treat. Our host were extremely attentive, but also respected our privacy, a wonderful combination. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, and more! Just the homemade chocolate pot de cremes are worth a trip back. The drive from Hwy 1 to the house is a bit challenging given the twists and turns of a narrow mountain road, but manageable and worth the effort. Overall a wonderful get away. Thanks to our hosts.

Folks, you really don't want to miss the quiet, serene, spiritual experience of staying in this spot. My husband and I spent 5 incredible nights watching beautiful sunsets, warming by the crackling fire, and gazing at the stars as we went to sleep each night. Every twist and turn reaching this hideaway provides an incredible vista. Spent from hiking the fabulous trails in Big Sur every day, we soaked at night in the hot tub and watched the sun slowly sink into the Pacific. Anne and John are the absolute perfect hosts providing every amenity one could hope for in this incredible little 'roost.' It was comfortable, beautiful, quiet...just what we wanted. I cannot wait to return. Thank you Anne and John...for creating a little slice of Heaven for the rest of us to enjoy.

We were fortunate enough to stay for three nights, did not want to leave and we didn't. The location is magical, and the first day we didn't leave the cottage. There is a deck for sun bathing and the view out over the pacific is enthralling. The photos don't do the place justice, it was MUCH nicer than we expected. The bed is super comfortable and we loved the fact that there are sky lights throughout. Oh, and he jacuzzi tub. We laid out on the deck at night watching the stars, took long walks and in general did nothing for a couple of days, it was perfect. Though there is a HUGH flat screen television, we spent most of our time, reading, cooking and relaxing. One day we decided to go out exploring, and after about one hour, looked at each other and said, "What are we doing out here? The cottage is much better than this and there aren't any people!" We came right back to the cottage and spent the rest of the day there. It is quiet here, and away from everything, no distractions, perfect. Anne and John are the perfect hosts, catering to our every need. And, John's pot de creme, divine!

This is a wonderful place to stay for a couple--beautiful cabin, with great view of ocean and the forests around Big Sur. We stayed for a week in late August. Very quiet--getting there is an adventure, but the location ensures tranquility. John and Ann are fabulous hosts, and tho the guest house is adjacent to their house, they are very considerate of their guests' privacy and needs. Can't wait to go again!!!

Where do I begin... Our stay at Fletcher's Roost was PERFECT! Anne and John are so hospitable, generous and kind, and the cabin was just what we were looking for in Big Sur. Quiet, private, serene, and amazing views. One of our favorite things was waking up in the middle of the night, and looking up through the many skylights in the cabin and seeing the heavens above. We have never seen so many stars in our life! Don't be intimidated by the drive to get to the house, after the first time, it's quite fun and lends to great views of Big Sur and the ocean. We hope to make it back one day, and you can bet we'll want to stay here again!

We spent a beautiful and relaxing weekend here for my 40th birthday. Anne and John were great - very responsive and informative from the moment we contacted them via email. Staying here was really more like staying at a b&b, but more private, as Anne and John are generous with breakfast items and special treats. Be sure to take John up on his offer of Chocolate Noir Pots de Creme - they are spectacular! The room is a studio, ideal for couples. It has amazing skylights through which you can stargaze at night. The shower/jacuzzi is in the main room, so it's not for the modest. The fireplace is great and there is plenty of wood provided. The floors have radiant heating so the studio always feels cozy. Those familiar with Big Sur probably know this already - driving can be a bit scary. The private road to the cabin is about 2.5 miles, and not for the faint of heart. John will meet you on the main road and escort you in, so no worries about not finding it. Once you're there, it's totally worth it. The views are spectacular. We would highly recommend this retreat for couples or singles looking for a peaceful getaway.

We spent a lovely and relaxing 3 days at this guesthouse. The house was comfortable, accessible and easy to be in. Anne and John were a delight: friendly and hospitable and there was more of a family feel than a business feel. They really wanted us to have a wonderful experience. Our stay was really restorative. The house is out in the wilds and the quiet is a joy. The ceiling above the bed has a series of skylights and at night you can lie in bed and look up and see the stars (this was Anne's design). We highly recommend this wonderful place.

We just stayed with Anne and John this past weekend for our anniversary weekend, and it was a lovely experience. This is the guest house behind their house, so John & Anne are around if you need anything, and it was really nice to be greeted by them. Re: privacy, there is a gate separating the main house from the guesthouse, so not an issue. We loved the hospitality - they met us at Highway 1 so that we wouldn't get lost getting to the house, and gave us a nice orientation of the place upon our arrival. You do want a reasonable car to navigate some windy roads. Anne & John are incredibly organized - prior to your stay they will find out if you want fresh fruits, scones, coffee/creamer, and bacon/eggs for your stay. Being in Big Sur, it's incredibly convenient to have these items at the place. Anne even asked what kind of sheets we prefer! There were plenty of toiletries at the house as well of all sorts. The place has lots of books and character - definitely not a standard boring rental, and a wood burning fireplace which really makes it cozy and warm during the cooler months, and it was stocked well with wood. The place has floor to ceiling windows with a view, as well as many skylights. There is a nice deck with an amazing view of treetops and the ocean - lovely on a beautiful day. In terms of value you'll do much better here than any of the hotels in Big Sur, which get expensive and are often a bit barebones. The location is great - super close to Big Sur proper - all the parks for hiking, as well as Big Sur Bakery, Big Sur River Inn, Nepenthe, Henry Miller Library, Deetjens, Ventana, Post Ranch Inn, Hawthorne Gallery, and pretty close to Esalen. We definitely look forward to staying here again!
