Corea Harbor is unique in that it remains a truly authentic fishing village. The 42 moorings belong to the fishermen and it is rare to see a sailboat during any time of the year. Known for its beauty, visitors from around the world come to see what painters like Marsden Hartley saw in this rugged landscape and are overjoyed to find that time has changed nothing. Sitting at the very end of a 3 mile long peninsula, Corea is surrounded on 3 sides by water. The only business that exists in this unique harbor is the lobster fishery, the same pursuit that has been practiced for the last 14 generations.
Cove Cottage sits on the edge of the harbor and has a clear view of the business at hand. The entire harbor is lined with docks that assist each family in lobstering. While most other harbors have lost their waterfront to development, Corea fishermen have always retained a right of way so that their families can maintain access to their trade. Directly across from the cottage are four of these docks and they are worked from daily. From the cottage's front porch guests can have an intimate view of the business of lobstering as well as watch the boats come and go.
The cottage is not just your ordinary weekly rental. Many of our first time guests request a second week and are usually disappointed to find the cottage is already rented. Many return the next year with the more appropriate two weeks reservation and are always truly happy at the end of their stay. Most couples are tickled to find such an intimate snuggery away from the crowds of Bar Harbor and other commercial destinations.
Another great attraction is bird watching. Behind the cottage is a large osprey nest that is easily observed from the back porch. Besides this resident bird, Corea is home to an astounding number of wild birds. There are resident eagles that perch on the rocks off the cottage as well as a treasure trove of seabirds that call the harbor home. Loons, cormorants, blue herons, several kinds of ducks, and a wide variety of seagulls are observed daily. For the more intrepid, watching the puffins on Petit Manan by renting a guide for the day is the way to go. It should also be noted that the road into Corea is surrounded by an enormous heath that has been deeded to the Petit Manan Wildlife Sanctuary, and they have designated the heath as a bird sanctuary. Birdwatching trails exist throughout the sanctuary.
Meticulous about a clean and well-appointed house, we want our cottage to be appreciated by couples and singles who want a first class rental that can be a comfortable home when not out touring. Because some of our guests are allergic to pet hair, we unhappily cannot allow pets.
Our guests have come for the incredible beauty that exists on this part of the coast as well as the quiet and privacy that Corea provides. There is not one store in Corea. You cannot purchase a Pepsi or a pair of Laura Ashley prints. There is an antique shop and an artists' cooperative where rug hooking instruction is also available. Outside of fishing there is no commercial traffic. This in itself is what attracts those from a more complicated world, as life in Corea seems to take one back in time.

Rate Details (In US Dollars)
$950/week (plus 7% tax)
Week is 2:00 pm Saturday to 10:00 am the following Saturday.
50% nonrefundable deposit required with remainder due 30 days before arrival.
Payment is by personal check or cash.
Refundable security deposit may be required.
