Perfect Getaway

Cedar Point Farmhouse is like a second home to us. We first visited more than 10 years ago (when I was expecting our first child). Since then, we have visited countless times. Our three kids count the days to our next visit, and Cedar Point never disappoints. We have stayed at the farmhouse in every season. Summer has the best fishing and swimming, but the other seasons have their own unique charms. The fall colors are a glorious palate to enjoy from the screened porch; winter is perfect for reading by the fire and hikes around the property; and spring brings new blooms and a rushing river current to enjoy. The farmhouse is so comfortable and cozy at any time of year – during the summer, the ceiling fans and a/c provide comfortable cooling, and during the winter months the area heaters and convenient gas fireplace heat the house quite nicely. The kitchen is well equipped for anything you might like to cook, and the backyard grill is always handy as well. What our family enjoys the most is the homey, very spacious floorplan – kids can be watching a movie in one living room while others are enjoying the fireplace or a good book in the other living room. Also, the screened porch is a favorite spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine – the view of the river and mountains is unrivaled. The hot tub is lovely too! We love not only the comfort of the farmhouse, but also the unique 100 acre property – there is no other Shenandoah rental like this, especially at the offered rental rates. I also want to thank Nina for being such an excellent hostess – she always leaves delicious cookies for the guests and makes sure that the house is immaculate. Her attention to detail and focus on ensuring that her guests have an outstanding visit is one of the main reasons we return to Cedar Point again and again (4 times in 2011!).

We come back to Cedar Point every year. For us, it has been the perfect family retreat. It is a place to slow down and to truly get away and to relax. We love the privacy and the sunsets over the Shenandoah River are spectacular. The house is spacious, clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you need. From the farm house, you can easily hike, run, bike, fish, kayak and swim. It is a great place for kids and friends. We are so grateful that Nina has shared Cedar Point with us. It has become a family tradition.

My husband, dog and I spend 5 nights at this very private, idyllic spot, looking westward over fields to the Shenandoah River and the Massanutten Mountains. We had lots of great hiking in the latter and canoed the former, relaxing each evening in front of a gas fire back "at home.' The house is spacious and comfortable, and front porch takes full advantage of the beautiful west-facing views.
Owner response:The sunsets at the Farmhouse are breathtaking and we are so pleased you enjoyed the house, river and area hiking. Your dog looked content to relax by the river and we hope your journey back to Maine was an easy one.

My husband and I have been to the Farmhouse for several years now. We've taken several of our family and friends there too. It's a wonderful place to go to experience the slower pace of life. There's lots to do OR you can just "hibernate" for a few days. This past weekend, we enjoyed having a family from church go with us. The girls were so excited to explore the river and especially the cave. We recommend this for a weekend getaway or a vacation spot for you or your family.

The Mountains, the River, a Hot Tub, and a Beautiful, PRIVATE home to ourselves!

The pictures and verbage do not do this retreat justice. My husband and I stayed for three short nights, and wish we could have stayed longer. The views are incredible, the land is very private, lovely and quiet, the river is perfect for fishing and swimming. The "one million fireflies" view from the hot tub at night was worth the entire (and entirely reasonable!) cost of this getaway. Wildlife abounds, the kitchen is beautifully stocked for anyone from the serious cook to the microwave popcorn crowd. Although we found it very easy in terms of distance to get to attractions (hiking in the Shenandoah National Park and visiting Luray Caverns) we found it difficult to drag ourselves away from the river house, and always made a hasty return after an outing. Fishing was great, photographic opportunities nearly limitless. For those not inclined towards rigorous outdoor activities, the atmosphere is perfect for quiet contemplation, practicing a musical instrument, writing the next great American novel, or painting and sketching the best views in the Shenandoah Valley. As we paged through the guest book in the house, we found ourselves quite jealous of those families who have had the pleasure of knowing and returning to Cedar Point Farmhouse year after year. We plan to do the same!

Cedar Point Farmhouse is our absolute favorite destination -- we have enjoyed vacationing here for nearly 10 years. We love to fish and swim in the river; enjoy hikes around the area, lounge on the porch and enjoy a Shenandoah sunset, and treasure the privacy this waterfront retreat offers its guests. Derek and Nina are the perfect hosts and our family has enjoyed this lovely historic farmhouse for many years and hope to return for many years to come.

We had a wonderful stay at the Cedar Point Farmhouse! Sitting on the deck in a rocking chair looking out at a couple of deer grazing in the morning, relaxing at the side of the river with a great view of the mountains, or listening to the owls under the amazing night sky: what a great vacation getaway! We went hiking in the national park during the day, and this was the perfect place to come back to (exhausted!) in the evenings.
