The property is very well positioned, facing south overlooking the valley, olive groves, orchards and vineyards and just a short drive to all of the famous hilltop villages of Provence.

The three story house has been recently renovated by one of the best renovation masters in Provence. It’s perfect for up to 8 people and a great setup for two families.

One of the best features of the house is the large pool and summer kitchen, with gorgeous views of the gardens, the olive groves, vineyards and the village of Roussillon.

Here’s what’s included.

Summer Kitchen and Pool:

One of the best parts of L’Etoile, there is an additional stone house that serves as the pool house and summer kitchen. The cozy kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, dishwasher and all the cookware and dinnerware to serve a party of 10.

There is an open fireplace for cooking and a two burner gas stove. There is also a half bath inside the building and a private outdoor shower area with hot and cold water that you will love to use.

The beautiful building opens fully on to the large pool and gardens in the summer. The gardens are very secluded and are full of lavender bushes, roses, herbs, fruit trees, and seasonal blooming varieties which are all surrounded by a grove of olive trees that create a wonderful afternoon shade and privacy.

There are plenty of places to lounge by the pool or read and nap in the shade of the trees. At night, the sky is completely taken over by the constellations. It is amazing to view the nighttime sky in such a beautiful natural setting. We frequently marvel at the many shooting stars!

In the summertime you can cook and enjoy your meals in the summer kitchen by the pool. When the nights are cooler, light the fireplace and enjoy your meals inside by the fire.

The weekly rental price includes 3 hours of house cleaning per week. Also, free Wi-Fi and free calls to France and the US are included.

Why the Owner Chose Roussillon

We love this area. It's home to us and our children. We have been vacationing in this area of Provence for about 14 years. For us, this is the perfect location between Gordes & Roussillon, two of the most beautiful hilltop villages in Provence. We're close enough to the town to get our daily baguette and croissants. But we're far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of the country side, hear the birds sing and see thousands of stars at night.

Plus, we are a short drive from many of the things we love: antique shopping at L'isle sur la Sorgue, spending a day in Lourmarin or Avignon, or a short drive to the French Riviera. But mostly, we love the people here. Everyone here is so nice and helpful.

The Unique Benefits at this Country House / Chateau

In the summertime, we love spending the day outside by the pool. The pool is surrounded by a nice olive grove and some lavender and roses and the kids love it (so do the adults!). We have a pool house with a fully stocked kitchen, a large fireplace and plenty of seating. So, most days, we have lunch and dinner out by the pool. And, because it's a fully outfitted kitchen, we don't have to haul food, cookware and dishes back and forth to the main house. Everything is right there in the Summer Kitchen.

In the cooler months, we have dinner inside across from a big, roaring fire. It's very cozy and quiet in the winter months. Perfect place to unwind.

During the day, we usually go to one of the many, famous Provencal markets in the surrounding towns - all about 10-15 minutes away. There are plenty of places to shop and buy antiques. There are about a dozen or so vineyards within 10 km from the house, and about 2-3 just down the road.

There's no shortage of hiking trails and national parks. In fact, there's a great hiking trail right behind our house that leads up to the top of the hill overlooking Lioux and the great big stone wall. It's breathtaking to see that view from the top of the mountain and only about a 10 minute hike.

The perfect home for a Provence getaway

Guest: Jude (New Orleans, LA USA)
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 07/12/11

L'Etoile is a beautiful place. Our visit to L'Etoile was the highlight of our month-long vacation in France. The house exceeded our already heightened expectations. Steve and John have done a masterful renovation to the house. It is well equipped. They've thought of every detail to create a comfortable, functional vacation house. The beds/bedding/pillows/towels are very comfortable. Both kitchens are totally functional and nicely equipped. The outdoor grilling area was perfect for cooking our Provencal dinners using the fresh, delicious ingredients we procured from the local village markets nearby. Outside dining areas are fantastic - we ate every meal outside. The photos do not fully convey the beauty of the home and its views of Roussillon and the Luberon valley. The views of Roussillon are really magical from the house and the summer kitchen/pool area. The house easily accommodated our 2 families. There is enough room inside and out that you do not feel like you're on top of one another. At the time of year we visited - June - you wanted to be outside as much as possible. Setup of the rental with Steve was very easy and he was very responsive in his communications and in answering all of my questions. In our opinion, this house is a perfect place to spend a vacation in Provence - I highly recommend it.

Owner response:Thank you Jude - I'm glad your 2 families were able to enjoy the house and the area.

What can we say? Not enough words or photos to fully appreciate 'L'Etoile' and it's immediate surroundings! Everything that others have written already are true and then some. We have particularly appreciated the feeling of 'home' here, waking to the gorgeous view of Roussillon and the sounds of the birds each morning! We are easy access to Roussillon and Gordes for our morning croissant and to be there as the towns wake up before day tripping crowds arrive. We've enjoyed meeting some of the locals who have become friends of the villa owners. We've had the best time just exploring the countryside and it's villages -- everyone having a unique quality. Right around the corner is the village of Lioux, a gem. And Goult and Perotot. And the Luberon route to Lourmarin and the gorge route to Venasque. The list goes on and on. Wish we could stay a month here. L'Etoile makes it all so easy! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Owner response:Thank you Cassie and Mickey - sounds like you had a great trip! We love nothing more than being at L'Etoile with our family and friends. And glad you got to meet all our friends in Roussillon.

Un paradis pour les cyclistes !

Guest: Biquette (Montreal)
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 09/15/10

Best Location in Luberon

Guest: John (New York, NY USA)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 09/13/10

We had a magnificent vacation at L'Etoile in the heart of Provence. The villa has all the character of the region but has been completely renovated with all the modern comforts of home. The summer kitchen is a fantastic outdoor experience and we spent most of our time there. The view from the top bedroom is absolutely spectacular, especially in the morning. The house is great for two couples with children as there are two master bedrooms with adjoining an adjoining bedroom for the kids. Best of all, L’Etoile feels like a home, not a rental property. We spent a month in France at 4 properties and having extra linens, towels, and the other little things makes all the difference.

L'Etoile was the most beautiful, relaxing home to vacation in. The house has a warm charm in the architechture that is so perfectly complimented by the decor. Having the outdoor summer kitchen made the house feel twice it's size. We enjoyed dinners on the veranda every evening, stargazing at midnight, afternoon swims, the lovely fireplace, 15-30 minute drives to the most amazing little towns and markets, and fresh figs right here on the property. I can't imagine a better location in Provence. We plan on staying here again next year, we loved it so much. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely French home with us! We look forward to many more adventures at L'Etoile.....

Owner response:Thank you Georgia.

Our home stay at L' Etoile was the best. The beautiful setting, grounds, and convenient location made our vacation extremly relaxing. The pool is set amongst olive trees which shaded us when needed relief from the sun, fig trees from which we enjoyed the plentiful ripe fruit, and lavender which scented the air when a breeze came through. Rosemary bushes adorned the front patio, which smelled great, and came in handy for our roasted potatoes! We were four couples, and the house was ideal, great views from all four bedrooms. The simple, but very elegant provencal furnishings of the home and pool were top notch. The bathrooms were heavenly! The washer and dryer came in very handy. Both main kitchen and summer pool kithen were ambly supplied with all the culinary accoutraments one needed to prepare simple to gourmet meals. We did this every evening- was a lot of fun. We dined at pool side looking at the viilage of Roussillion in the distance , and gazing at stars. The I pod player was great to have we listened to a lot of music we brought, and danced off fea meals under the stars :) The location of the home was very convenient to all the villages and towns we wanted to tour. Nothing was more then 45 minutes away. Very relaxing, we were back at pool side by 4:00 each day. The daily markets were great, hit most of them from the list on the house booklet. We also thought that the Simply market in Apt carried wonderful produce, and seafood. The house, the food, the wine, the weather, the warmth of the people made this one of our best vacations ever. We all had a great time at L'Etoile, and recommend it highly for couples or couples with children. Merci, Lizzie Walker

Owner response:Thank you, Lizzie, for the wonderful comments. I'm so glad that enjoyed your big birthday celebration at L'Etoile. Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time.

Date of Stay: 03/25/09 Review Submitted: 03/25/09

We had a wonderful stay at L’Etoile. Close by were beautiful vineyards, dense forests, rugged cliffs, and lush meadows. The house is wonderfully located near the two scenic villages of Gordes and Roussillon. Both villages are spectacular, and have good shopping, restaurants, and weekly markets. Gordes is the larger of the two, and is perched on a step hillside. It’s an amazing sight when you first see it, as the houses seem to stair-step and tumble down the steep slope like a vision. One of the nice features of the home is an outdoor pool and kitchen area. The pool area is private and lushly planted, and is situated in a small olive grove close to the house. After a day of exploring, having a glass of wine and watching the sun set glow on Roussillon in the distant hills is a treat. At the house there is a list of the daily markets, recommended nearby restaurants, and places to visit. The richness of the place and the pace of living there began to charm us. Some days we’d drive north toward the Alps, or perhaps east toward the Riviera. The house itself is made of old sturdy stone, and equipped with modern conveniences. It is well furnished and is true to its roots. It’s a wonderful base to explore and experience the charm of Provence, and we highly recommend it.

Owner response:Tony and Nancy, Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. You're description was so vivid - I wish I was there today!

This is a magical place! We so enjoyed the rural setting combined with such deluxe creature comforts (Washer/dryer, WiFi, capuccino machine, VOIP phone line). "Is minimalist luxury" a term? Comfy beds, quality linens, beautiful French decorative elements- but not a scrap of clutter! Staying here for 2 weeks enabled a real sense of "living in Provence". The location was perfect for day-trips all over Provence. There are also several great hikes directly from the property. The owners were a pleasure to deal with... their enthusiasm and helpfulnes facilitated our adventures. We can't wait to go back!

Owner response:Jennifer, thank you for your comments. I'm glad you had such a great time. I love your term: "minimalist luxury". I think it fits.

What an idyllic getaway! We enjoyed lovely views of Rousillon, sipping local wine by the pool, and tasting juicy figs fresh from the trees. Leisurly meals and lounging as well as day trips to local markets provided a great way to recover after the hurricane in Houston.

Owner response:Thank you for your comments Joe. Glad you enjoyed the place. I don't think there's any place I'd rather be than at L'Etoile at sunset with a glass of wine from our neighbors.

Staying at L'etoile was such a special vacation. The property is so well located that it was easy to sight-see and go to markets and vineyards. The old stone house has so much character and is beautifully and simply decorated. It was a very comfortable place to stay with my family. The beautiful gardens were a delight because there was always something lovely blooming. We spent so much time down by the pool swimming, resting, cooking and enjoying the outdoors. Our walk to the top of the mountain using the path behind the house was spectacular. The view across the valley was breathtaking. We loved waking up each day with the grand view of Roussillon and watching the small town light up as the sun set. Just divine!
