Secluded, Luxurious Home in Upper Canyon-Mountain Views
- Minimum stay:2-5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Twin Mountain Cabin is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 2,700 square foot secluded home located in historic Upper Canyon at the top of the hill with beautiful views of Sierra Blanca and Capitan Mountains. There are no immediate neighbors and the Lincoln National Forest is 20 feet out the back if you and the family want to take a little walk in the woods. You can see deer, turkey, hummingbirds and occasionally you will see elk and bear. Children should be accompanied in the forest.
The King Bedrooms, Great Room, Dining Room and back deck have wonderful views of Sierra Blanca. The front deck has a beautiful view of Capitan and is sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon. The Master Suite has a king bed, office and bath. There are TV’s in all the bedrooms and a big screen HDTV with DVR in the Great Room, all connected to cable. There is a DVD also. There are games available for the whole family to enjoy and of course, there is the computer and printer in a separate location. The fully equipped kitchen is huge and will accommodate lots of cooks. There is a baby crib, washer and dryer, iron and ironing board and gas grill provided.
The cabin is one level with 14 steps coming up from the 2 car garage. There is a graduated gravel walk with railing from the garage up to the front door that has only 2 steps into the house. The third bathroom has a tall boy toilet with handicapped rails and the shower is a step in with hand holds. The doors and walkways throughout the house would accommodate a wheel chair.
Activities: Our cabin is minutes from the famous Ruidoso shopping district, restaurants, grocery stores, 15 minutes from the Inn of the Mountain Gods, 20 minutes from Ski Apache and Lake Bonita which has designated hiking trails. There is a Fun Tracker (go carts, water rides, cliff climbing, etc) 15 minutes away and for the smaller children there are pony rides about 15 minutes away. A Super Wal-Mart and The Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Billy the Kid Casino is about 20 minutes to the East and you can purchase general admission, or Turf Club and Jockey Club seats reasonably. Check out: Spencer Theater of Performing Arts. Mountain Annies Riversong Theater, Flying J Ranch (western show and chuck wagon dinner), lots of Art Galleries and the McGary Foundary.
You can take a day trip to old Lincoln (antique historical museums/homes where Jesse James roamed) and Capitan (home of Smokey the Bear). Another day trip: Alamogordo (New Mexico Museum of Space History with I-Max Theater and White Sands) and Cloud Croft (great shopping, eating and The Lodge where Cary Grant and Judy Garland stayed). Grindstone Lake is 15 minutes from the cabin if you like to fish. There are several public golf courses. We recommend you check with the Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce to see what activities are happening in town.
We get rave reviews from our guests and know that you and your family will enjoy your stay so much that you will return year after year like many of our guests.

We had a very good time at the house. This is a very clean and new home with an amazing view of the mountains. It had everything that we could possibly need to keep everyone happy. The huge kitchen and living room made it possible to have me, my wife, my 11yr old, my 4yr old, my in-laws, and my parents all under the same roof without feeling cramped at all. We had as many as 33 deer at a time come to the back of the house for feeding, and my kids were able to let the deer eat out of their hands. We also had turkey come strutting in and put on an impressive show. I would recommend it to anyone that could use a relaxing get away. We will come back. We felt that the price is very reasonable too. March 28-31 of 2013.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

My family very much enjoyed our stay here at this cabin. It was perfect for my family, with all the room, the 3 bath rooms especially! Beautiful and large kitchen. It was very clean. The description of cabin is very accurate. Some of my family has already recommended to others, and they have stayed there also, and enjoyed their stay. I would recomend cabin to others. Beautiful cabin and view. We are planning on staying again this fall, cant wait. I would have to say everything about the cabin was great!!!! :) Owners were very pleasant to talk to.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The cabin was an exceptional property and exceeded our expectations. It was well furnished, clean, and had a spacious layout for a large family. The setting high in the pines was beautiful as was the view from the back deck. All of our family agreed it was the best property we had rented in Ruidoso and we hope to be able to return in the future. The pictures clearly represented the property and the home-owners provided clear, concise directions to the cabin. Although the cabin was secluded, it was minutes away from the center of town and all activities.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

What a beautiful cabin, nestled in the woods! Great location. Very private. Great wrap-around porch for cooking, eating & watching the many hummingbirds, wild turkeys and deer. 5 minutes to downtown. Excellent comfort. I can go on and on. You've got to experience this to truly grasp the beauty and tranquility. We've taken our elderly parents for the last 3 out of 4 years to Twin Mountain. They love it. We love it. We're coming back this year for another 6-night stay and will continue this annual trek for as long as we're able.. Just an amazing, private, lovely home and location. The owners are very responsive to our needs. The listing for the property was very accurate. The photos didn't do justice to this truly beautiful home and surroundings. It's hard to replicate perfection!! The property was clean and well maintained. The owners were readily avaailable for any help. I would strongly recommend this property to others. It's simply majestic. We cook most of our meals in the huge, chef-friendly kitchen, b ut our only outing was to Baron's Cattle Steak House, an outstanding local eatery. Five stars!!!!!!!!!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: We love Ruidoso, and consider it our second home! Our first home is in West Texas (Eldorado), and we love to get away to the coolness and solitude of Upper Canyon. Joe first visited Ruidoso with his family in the early '50s, and Judy made her first trip sometime in the '70s.
Why the Owner Chose Ruidoso:
We bought our first home in Ruidoso in 1996 and still have it today. We were out driving around Ruidoso one day and ended up at a For Sale sign high in the hills above Upper Canyon. When we climbed the hill and saw the view, we knew we had to build here.
Judy and I sat down with an architect in front of his computer and designed this home ourselves. It was completed in 2005.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home backs up to the national forest, and is visited daily by deer and turkey. An occasional bear and elk will come by. It's very secluded, but only minutes from shopping, casinos, and skiing.
