This charming recently refurbished 18th century convent will provide the ideal location for an unforgettable family holiday. Nestled in the beautiful countryside of the Lot in the south west of France, the listed village of Grezels, surrounded by the world famous Cahors vineyards, in the shadow of a magnificent 13th century castle, is a tranquil and peaceful place.
The property, set in a spacious private garden with its own swimming pool, is a three storey converted convent school originating from the sixteenth century. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom which open out onto the swimming pool courtyard. On the first floor is a communal living area with a large living room, kitchen-dining room and a television/games room. Finally on the second floor there are two more bedrooms and a bathroom. There are therefore effectively two self contained sleeping areas separated by a communal living area, ideal for two couples with children, for example. The house can be full of people but there is always a sense of privacy.
The village of Grezels is located five kilometres from the bustling market town of Prayssac which boasts two supermarkets as well as a thriving town center with an excellent butcher and fabulous green grocer and also a small art-house cinema, showing all the latest releases, most of them subtitled. Five kilometres in the other direction is the picturesque town of Puy l’Evèque. There are two one Michelin star restaurants in the area, the Gindreau in Catus and the Château de Mercuès, in Mercuès.
The Lot is a special place. Despite becoming increasingly popular with holidaymakers both from France and abroad, the Lot has managed to avoid overcrowding and retain an authentic and traditional atmosphere, sadly missing in other popular tourist regions. There are all the activities one would expect from a country holiday and more. The property is less than a five minute walk from the river Lot itself; fishing, swimming, boating, and swimming again are all de riguer in this clean and beautiful stretch of water. The valley itself is stunning, offering challenging, and not so challenging walks and bike rides as well as horse riding . There are also two excellent golf courses within an hour’s drive. The village is situated right in the heart of the Appellation Controlée Cahors wine area; there are dozens of wine producers within a ten minute drive of Grezels, all just dying to sell you some of their world class wine; tasting is obviously mandatory ! Finally and somewhat bizarrely, there is a paint-balling facility not five minutes from the village, the whim of a local farmer, totally professional but very low key – and after a long day relaxing by the pool it’s always fun to while away a couple of happy hours, shooting adolescents.
