Location: Waynesboro, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, USA (Near Staunton, Charlottesville and Wintergreen) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3 Baths (Sleeps 9)
Purple Haze farm house (circa 1908) was totally renovated in 2006. Purple Haze farm is a 200 acre working farm with cattle and crops, fronting the South River, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can see the house from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view from the house will cure high blood pressure in a minute.
Because it is an old farm house with additions (total of around 3100 sq ft} the floor plan is unique. Downstairs includes all the public rooms plus a full bath. Upstairs includes three bedrooms (one queen and two doubles), a bunk room with a single and bunks which sleeps 3, and two full baths. One of the baths is off a central hall, the other is off one of the double bed bedrooms. The upstairs rooms are on three levels, often requiring a step or two between rooms and the hall. If you are a person easily disoriented when you wake up at night, you may want to stay in the room with the ensuite bath with no steps. Also, it has a metal roof, so you will hear rain and wind storms if one arises.
The address is 118 Hall School Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980, should you wish to map it. (For reasons I don't understand, most gps/map programs show the house about 1/2 mile south of it's actual location on Hall School Rd. This is important if you are using such a program to get to us. Just read the mailbox numbers, or find the Mennonite church, which is across the cowfield from our house.)
While only a few miles from the interstate, we are in a lovely rural setting. With 3/4 mile frontage on the South River, we have lovely paths for hiking and gentle water for canoeing (no rapids) and fishing. This area is particularly nice for biking, with lots of rural roads, and excellent mountain biking trails nearby in the national forest. With 24 wineries within 25 miles, you can enjoy a grand tour or just visit a couple only 10 minutes away. Lake Sherando is 15 minutes away for swimming. We also have pool passes at two nearby hotels so you can swim indoors or out.
In the Fall the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are amazing. There is no extra charge for them.
You'll have a full modern kitchen, or many restaurants nearby for dining. The den features a card table and a large HD TV with DVD. In the barn there is foosball, air hockey , basket ball, ping pong and a skate board halfpipe (at your own risk.)
Behind the house there is a patio with a wonderful view of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have recently expanded the patio to include a firepit and a hottub.
If you are so inclined, you can visit our chickens and two miniture donkeys, Fiona and Fergie. You can win their hearts with an apple or carrot, or by brushing their coats.
We are less than 30 minutes from Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Wintergreen(golf and skiing) and Staunton(Frontier museum and Shakespeare Theater). 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, Masanutten with it's waterpark and skiing, Lexington and the Safari zoo. About 2 hours from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown and 3 hours from Washington DC and Virginia Beach.
Dulles airport is 2.5 hours and Richmond airport is about 90 minutes.
We also have a large picnic area and barn we use for weddings, parties, etc.. If you want to invite friends over while you are staying here this can be rented seperately.
Come settle in on our farm for a week, take in all the fun activities in the area, and then relax with the comforts and room of home.

We were six people and we came in the Waynesboro area for cycling. In addition to the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, this area offers a nice selection of quiet roads for cycling. We greatly appreciated this house and the area where it is located. This is a large comfortable house with lots of charm, very well decorated and tastefully furnished. The owner who lives near by, warmly welcomed us and made ??our stay very pleasant. We highly recommend this property.
Owner response:Thanks for coming. We enjoyed having you here. Please come again.

Our family had a marvelous Thanksgiving week at the beautifully restored Purple Haze Farm House. We enjoyed long walks, apple cider, delicious local cheese and apples, the hot tub, the fire pit, and some of the local restaurants. The views from the patio area were spectacular. We all loved the donkeys (Fergie, Fiona and baby Olive), especially feeding them apples and carrots. The grandchildren especially had fun on the tire swings and playing games in the barn. Brad and Deana are wonderful and very accommodating. We drove the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and spent one day at nearby Jefferson's Monticello. All in all, we had a great experience and would highly recommend this home and perfect get-away to all of our friends.
Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. It was a pleasure having you here. Please come again. Brad

We just got home from a lovely week at the farmhouse, and we miss it already. It exceeded our expectations; the house was beautiful and extremely comfortable. It is decorated with a lot of flair, and has every convenience we could ask for. My husband, ten-year-old son and I enjoyed walking around the farm, meeting the cows, chickens and dogs, and playing in the barn and on the tire swing. Brad was extremely friendly and helpful - a delightful person. We used his very specific advice left in the notebook in the kitchen for recommendations on activities and restaurants. The location of the house is really perfect; it's definitely in the country, but so close to many towns and the mountains that we had a different experience each day. Everyone should stay at the house - except when we want to return!
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. Please come again.

Charming house, great hosts, convenient location... this farm house is a real "home away from home" We've stayed a couple times, referred family and friends and have never been disappointed. A well-equipped kitchen, large spacious dining and relaxing rooms - with touches including a dvd library and walking trail. All ages will appreciate a vacation here.
Owner response:Thank you for your kind comments. Come again.

Recently spent a week at this wonderful old farm house. The interior of the house is unique and cozy...the pictures do not do it justice. The panoramic view is phenomenal with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and even Canadian geese flying over. The owner was helpful and available. There are many attractions and restaurants nearby and the selection of wineries to visit was excellent. We had a most enjoyable and relaxing week and would recommend this VRBO to everyone!!!
Owner response:We enjoyed having you on the farm. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Hope you can come again.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Purlple Haze Farm House. It was a great place to relax! Beautiful farmland and mountains to enjoy and a walking trail. Also there are many actractions close by if you wish to explore the area. Only two miles from the interstate. The owners provide a very clean and comfortable home and the kitchen is very well stocked. It did feel like home away from home. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone looking for a great place to stay when visiting the Shenandoah Valley area.
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. Glad you had a good time. Please come again. Brad, Deana, the boys and the various animals

We had a wonderful week at this house. This house combines the peaceful tranquility of the country with the convenience of shopping within a 10 minute drive (Target, Walmart, Kohls, groceries, etc.) My teenaged kids loved skateboarding on the halfpipe in the barn. My mom and I loved taking long walks to the river, surrounded by corn fields and soybeans. Our dogs enjoyed walking to the river, off leash, and being hosted by the home dogs, Bailey and Leila. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. The kitchen was well stocked with nice dishes and cookware. We stayed in and cooked for most meals but there is a nice selection of fast food and upscale dining close by. Even though we were there to get away, the fact that the house had wi-fi was a nice convenience. All in all, it was a wonderfully memorable week. This was our fourth VRBO home and all have been great but this will be our first unanimous repeat. Brad and Dena, we'll see you in 2011! Thanks for everything!
Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. Enjoyed having you. See you next year.

I simply cannot describe the beauty that we experienced in both the home and the surroundings. Sunrise over the mountains and pastures was gorgeous but the sunsets were even more spectacular! The home was so well equipped that we enjoyed staying in and cooking far more than going out. The home and the grounds exceeded all expectations and the owners were a delight. The farmhouse is ideally located near many attractions but our boys had just as much fun fishing at the river and playing with the friendly dogs. I would recommend this home to anyone interested in the PERFECT country getaway!

We often use VRBO for our vacation rentals. We have not been disappointed. Our September(2009) stay in the Shenadnoah Valley at the FARM HOUSE was extremely nice. The house was very clean and beautifully appointed. A wonderful and comfortable home for our extended stay. The location of the house was convenient for touring Virginia. The information book of places to see, shop, eat and things to do was very helpful. Brad and Deana are wonderful hosts.
Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. Like you, we are fond of VRBO, Please come again.
