The house is quiet but close to the main downtown area. It was very clean and simple. It was our base for hiking several areas but we enjoyed being able to dine in town without having to drive after a cocktail or two. No complaints and would stay again if returning to Brevard.

I enjoyed staying in this home for weekend getaways about once a month for a period of time and then had to stop due to the economy. We stayed in this home in 2007 when we were married in the mountains. We decided to treat ourselves to a little trip for Thanksgiving 2010 and this was our first choice -- we felt so lucky to have gotten reservations for the holiday weekend! The home was just as cozy and beautiful as we remembered it from a few years ago. We are picky about where we stay because cleanliness is so important to us -- to the point that we decided to get our own camper so we can haul our own bed around with us! But we make an exception with this home, because it's been pristine for every visit. The bathrooms and kitchen are immaculate and the bed linens are fresh and clean. It is very convenient to downtown Brevard, Dupont Forest and the Pisgah mountains and so quiet and peaceful. We missed the rooster that used to crow in the mornings, but seeing white squirrels in the back yard made up for it! We camped at a Pisgah campground for spring break and included a one-day stay here. It was great -- our boys were so excited and enjoyed exploring the house and yard and kept begging us to come back for a longer stay. So we made reservations for later this year. We're looking forward to seeing the new kitchen updates. We hope to make this rental home an annual tradition. We always look forward to coming "home" in the evening after adventures in the mountains or Asheville. Nothing beats winding down with a glass of wine in front of the fireplace! We can't say enough great stuff about this house. We recommend it very highly.

Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Great location...however...

This house is a great location to downtown Brevard, but the downstairs portion of the house was uninhabitable. It was so musty, the smell was overpowering and we had to shut the door and stay upstairs the entire time. We were hoping to use the beds downstairs, as there were 5 of us. The upstairs was musty enough. It was also kind of dusty. The lampshade next to the queen-size bed was covered in dust. There were also ants all over the kitchen. The price was great but we found out why. It could be a very charming home but needs some renovating.

Owner response:We were very sorry to hear that the house did not work out well for these renters and would like to address the problems mentioned by the poster. For those of you familiar with Brevard, you know that the area gets a tremendous amount of rain. A dehumidifier and ceiling fans keep the ground floor comfortable but we have asked a contractor to check on things to make certain that all is in working order (we stayed in the house the following weekend and all was well). We don't doubt that there was dust on the lampshade - it's the only lamp with a traditional pleated shade and they are just a pain. The good news is that all the other bedside lamps are metal IKEA work lights because they are best for reading - and they're definitely dust free. The lamp with the pleated shade will soon make its way to the Habitat for Humanity thrift store! Although we did not see ants the next week when we were in residence, the exterminator has been dispatched to check it out. The house, like many of us, is "of a certain age" but does boast a new bathroom and has a new kitchen on the way in early 2011. We have many repeat guests and we use the house often as well; we are all taken by the charm of the original pine floors and bead board, the comfortable furnishings and the “non-rental” feel of the property.

Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+.

I thoroughly enjoyed this pleasant bungalow and its quiet residential neighborhood. I liked reading on the porch, walking around the neighborhood, and walking to the shops and restaurants in downtown Brevard. My husband loved mountain biking on the nearby trails, while I enjoyed hiking them. We also visited Asheville, a lovely small city, and drove a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The guidebooks and brochures left in the house were much appreciated as we planned our days. Over all, we loved this comfortable bungalow and the town of Brevard. We would recommend this house to our friends!

We have loved our stays in this house. It's a quiet location, within easy walking distance to bakeries, cafe's, restaurants, etc. And the mountains are a few minutes away! We also appreciated the comfy chairs, lovely hanging quilts, and ample supply of books and brochures on local activities.

We really enjoyed this reasonably priced bungalo. Morning hikes, lunch in Ashville and evenings on the front porch followed by a short walk to area restaurants dinner. There is a quaint shopping area in walking distance for family that didn't want to hike/bike. Neighbors are friendly and white squirrels abundant! Definitely want to go back!

This house is a gem! Its location is perfect, in a treed residential neighborhood just a few minutes walk from Brevard's lovely downtown, where there are restaurants, cafes, shops, and even a coffee bean roastery to explore. The surrounding area boasts several national forests and wilderness areas, artisan studios, popular fishing rivers, and other interesting towns and cities. We came to the area for its incredible road cycling, but also did fantastic hikes and plan to return for the mountain biking, which is also reputed to be excellent. Features of the house that we particularly enjoyed were the big front porch where we spent warm evenings chatting, reading, and observing the beginning of spring; the well-equipped kitchen, rare in a rental, with sharp knives, a gas stove, a great array of vessels, appliances, and utensils); and the handy basket of information on local attractions, hiking maps, and so forth. We'll definitely be back!
