Robbinsville, North Carolina is situated at 2200 feet, and our mountains range to over a mile high. The area has over 100 miles of wilderness trails with the Appalachian Trail bisecting the county. Whitewater sports on the Nantahala lie on our Eastern border, and the Class V rapids of the Cheoah River is only a few miles away. The Smoky Mountain Park is our Northern border, and we are in the middle of the Nantahala National Forest.
Lake Santeetlah recently held the state record for large mouth bass and walleye pike. 80% of Lake Santeetlah’s shoreline is a part of the Nantahala National Forest and will never be developed and is maintained for recreation year around.
Nature is what these mountains are all about. A walk through Joyce Kilmer Forest, the largest original growth forest in the Eastern US , is a wonderful example of nature at her best. Hemlock and Poplar trees tower hundreds of feet towards the sky with girths that take 7 and 8 adults with out stretched arms to reach around.
