This 2-acre wooded ridge between Long Pond and Black Pond provides one of the most private and beautiful locations anywhere on the Cape. The property includes a cozy path down to a private beach on both Long Pond and Black Pond, where you can use the house sailboat, pedal boat, kayak and canoe. Forget about the hassles of packing your car and lugging chairs, umbrellas and coolers to the beach! The chairs and shade are already in place, and you can just walk up the shady path to the fridge! A short stroll to the end of Prince Charles Drive provides you immediate access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail for biking, walking, jogging, roller blading, etc.
The entire house was designed to reduce solar heating during the summer, while fully exploiting its heat input at the lower solar elevations of wintertime. Combined with advanced insulation technology and double-paned glass, the house requires only a fraction of the heating fuel of other homes its size.

Why the Owner Chose Harwich
The family has some history in the Brewster and Chatham area of Cape Cod. They wanted a retirement home that would be an attractive place for the children to visit every summer. Two sons were living in the Boston area. This scheme worked perfectly - all of the children and grandchildren have visited for a week or two every summer since the house was built!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house was built a few years after the 70s energy crisis. It was carefully designed for solar heating, with large thermal storage masses and super-insulated walls to reduce heating fuel consumption. These features have been very successful.
The natural beauty of the lot and its fantastic view are its greatest asset, winter and summer!
Owner's Map of Harwich
Charles and Loraine Parker are originally from Brooklyn NY, but moved to Huntsville Alabama ("Rocket City USA") to work on the space program in the mid 1950s. Charles was a PhD rocket fuel research scientist. After Apollo 13, Charles's was transferred to the Philadelphia area. The children went to college at Bates, Dartmouth, Harvard, Cornell, and MIT. Charles retired in 1980.
