Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 10)
Keywords: Lakefront Property on fresh water on pond on lake lake front rental lake front house fresh water beach
4 Bedroom, 2 & 1/2 bath (w/enclosed,hot/cold,outdoor shower), waterfront, with private beach and docks on both Long Pond and Black Pond. Encompassing 743-acres, Long Pond is the largest freshwater lake on the Cape and voted a "Greatest Lake in New England" by Boston Magazine(2009). With 430 feet of Long Pond waterfront, and more than 300 feet of Black Pond waterfront, our 2-acre wooded ridge between Long and Black Ponds provides one of the most private and picturesque locations anywhere on the Cape!
The property includes a gradually descending path down to a private, sandy beach on both Long Pond and Black Pond, where you have use of the house sailboat, pedal boat, kayak, canoe, docks and life jackets. Forget about the hassles of packing your car and lugging chairs, umbrellas and coolers to the beach! The chairs, shade, sun and sand are already in place, and you can just walk up the shady path to the fridge! If you're bringing along an additional boat, just launch it from the Brewster Beach ramp, 300 yards down from our beach (see map), & dock it alongside our Long Pond dock or at our mooring just beyond the dock.
The house was designed as an active/passive solar home and is positioned on the lot so as to reduce solar heating during the summer, while fully exploiting its heat input at the lower solar elevations of wintertime. The interior is very open, light and welcoming, with all windows (Andersen roll-outs) having a view of either Long Pond or Black Pond. There's a wonderful feeling of being outdoors, even when indoors!
Large common rooms & bedrooms with high, vaulted & beamed ceilings, kitchen, sunroom, breakfast area, dining area, comfy loft, and 1&1/2 baths make up the main level of the house. Sliding glass doors lead out onto a large wrap-around deck, positioned 55' above Long Pond, with a retractable awning, tables for dining, and chairs for relaxing & taking in the amazing view. The lower level of the house has a large common room (perfect for kids), that connects to a 2 bedroom and full-bath suite, and which opens out onto a terraced area overlooking Long Pond. Around the corner, is the enclosed, outdoor, hot/cold shower & dressing area, the kids' preferred showering location!
The house has four bedrooms: 2 Queen (1 main, 1 lower), 1 Full (main) and 1 Twin (lower). Additionally, in the the lower level family room, there are 2 twin day beds (set-up as lounging couches) and a full-size sofa bed. TV/DVD players are located in both the lower level family room and the main level living room, as are a wide selection of board games and books (for all ages).
A short 200 yd. stroll down to the road provides you immediate access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail for biking, walking, jogging, roller blading, etc. Once there, check out Seymour Pond's sandy public beach & our neighborhood association's private beach on Long Pond. Or, take a scenic rail trail walk to the Pleasant Lake General Store (circa 1858) for a cool drink or an ice cream. 3 miles N or S will bring you to either Brewster Bay beaches or Harwich Nantucket Sound beaches. A 15-20 minute car drive takes you to the bigger ocean surf of Nauset Beach in Orleans or to the picturesque Chatham Light House Beach.
Given this home's central Cape location, there's something for everyone! Go-carts & trampolines in Harwich Port; golfing; shoping & dining in Harwich/Chatham; movie theatres; antiquing on Rt.6A; deep sea fishing, seal or whale watching out of Harwich Port/Chatham; Harwich Jr.Theatre; mini golfing; Brooks Park family concerts; Cape Cod Baseball League summer games in Harwich/Brewster/Chatham; Bass River Cruises; Dennis/Chatham Playhouses; Brewster Natural History Museum & hikes out to the tidal flats; OR....just hanging out at this wonderful lake house, enjoying the views, taking a leisurely fresh water swim at the private beach or simply recharging your battery!

Map & Owner's Profile
Long Pond: Stupendous Views, Private Beach, Docks, Boats!
Year Purchased: 1980
Why the Owner Chose Harwich
The family has history in the Chatham & Brewster areas of Cape Cod. Charles' grandfather's medical practice was housed in what is now the 'Chatham Candy Manor.' As was custom in those days, his grandparents' family resided in the upper floors of the property. Charles and Loraine wanted a retirement home that would be an attractive place for the children to visit every summer. Two sons were living in the Boston area, at the time. This scheme worked perfectly - all of the children and grandchildren have visited for a week or two every summer since the house was built! In addition, Loraine's sister purchased a property on Black Pond, several years ago, so she's just a pedal boat ride away from the beach area.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The natural beauty and privacy of the 2+ acre lot, it's immediate access to two wonderful, freshwater, sandy-bottom ponds, its fantastic views, and its central Cape location are its greatest assets, winter and summer! Once here, there's little reason to venture elsewhere. The house and property are expansive enough to allow individual privacy, even with a larger party. As well, it's common spaces are large enough to accommodate all together, when desired. A perfect property for extended-family gatherings!
A popular stop for hikers & bikers who use the Cape Cod Rail Trail. A scenic & fun one mile walk along the Trail from 38PCD. Quaint country store dates back to 1858.
Twenty miles of paved bike trails that run along the old Cape Cod Train Rail Bed. Newly repaved and expanded. A short 200 yard walk from the driveway of 38PCD.
Full-service,public boat ramp, beach & lifeguard-protected swimming area.Bring your motor boat, jet ski,or sailboat to add to the already provided boats at 38PCD & moor at our private Long Pond dock.
Public beach, with life-guard protected swimming, restrooms, & boat launch.
Private beach on Long Pond for use by residents, quests or renters of neighborhood properties within Harwich Pines.
Owner's Map of Harwich
Charles and Loraine Parker are originally from Brooklyn NY, but moved to Huntsville Alabama ("Rocket City USA") to work on the space program in the mid 1950s. Charles was a PhD rocket fuel research scientist. After Apollo 13, Charles's was transferred to the Philadelphia area. The children went to college at Bates, Dartmouth, Harvard, Cornell, and MIT. Charles retired in 1980, and he & Loraine purchased the Cape property and had the house designed & built. They've lived there year-round until just a few years ago (minus their fall or winter trips to various intriguing locations). They now reside in nearby Yarmouth Port in an amazing community of new-found friends and year-round activities.
