Come and spoil yourself at Big Kahuna's -- a retreat created for the ultimate Lake Hartwell experience! Summer dates are going fast!!! This 5BR 3BA luxury home sits in a deep water cove and will offer you and your guests the perfect home base for your vacation at the lake. Located in an upscale lakefront neighborhood near the Reed Creek area of Hartwell, just a few minutes from downtown. By water, we are 10 minutes from Hartwell Marina, 10 minutes to the dam and about 20 minutes to the river channels, truly an A+ location on the lake. Several nearby ramps for easy access launching your boat.
Worried about the kids having not enough to do at the lake? Don't be -- our family-friendly rental includes the use of a tandem sit-on-top kayak, five person pedal boat and propellor-driven hydrobike, not to mention airhockey, ping-pong, foosball, karaoke, X-Box system and lots of fun games. Two 15 speed bikes with off-road tires for exploring Wyndward Pointe Drive and the adjacent farm. Wonderfully landscaped yard with plenty of grass for the kids to play.
Bedding is as follows: Master (king); Guest BR #1 (queen); Guest BR #2 (queen); Guest BR #3 (two twins); Guest BR #5 (bunkroom featuring two twin over full beds - sleeps six kids). All bedrooms and living room (upstairs) and den (downstairs) have ceiling fans for your comfort.
The main level features a large great room with stacked stone fireplace (remote controlled). Living room has 46 inch high def LCD TV (with satellite and blu-ray DVD player), and is open to the gourmet kitchen and dining area.
Master bedroom is on the main level and has a king-sized four poster bed with luxury linens, LCD flat screen TV, spa-like bathroom with French doors, double sinks, deep tub, separate tiled shower and extra large walk-in closet. Light some candles and soak your cares away! Master also has private access to the covered porch...sneak out before everyone is up and enjoy the sunrise and lakeside view with your coffee!
Second bedroom bedroom on the main floor features a queen bed, super comfy mattress, luxury linens and en suite bathroom, as well as a large closet.
The gourmet kitchen makes meal preparation a delight! Granite countertops, all the cooking gadgets you could think of, complete service set for very large groups, and an abundance of counter space to allow everyone to get in on the action and assist the cook! EXTRA FULL SIZED FRIDGE IN THE GARAGE for easy access (for large families/groups vacationing together, a second fridge is really a MUST - most houses on the lake don't have a spare -- it will make your week much less hectic, with less frequent store runs, the ability to have plenty of cold drinks and ice on hand, store extra food, etc., truly a great feature to look for in a vacation rental!!). Dining space is plentiful, with seating for eight at the circular dining table, overflow seating at the island breakfast bar and, if the need arises, even more dining space can be found on the covered porch, which features lake views, a soothing water fountain and it's own ceiling fan!
On the terrace level, we have three bedrooms, the family room/gaming area and a full bath. The first bedroom has two antique mahogany twin beds with very comfy mattresses. The second bedroom has lakeside views and is well appointed, with a queen sized bed covered in luxury bedding. There is a cozy reading chair positioned near the window for curling up with a good book, and an extra large closet for your things.
The kids Hawaiian-themed bunkroom is the third bedroom on this floor. The bunkroom can sleep six and features two twin over full beds, all covered delightfully in Pottery Barn surfer-inspired bedding. Walk-in closet, TV with DVD and X-Box, karaoke, and best of all -- a real long board and "how to surf" books, so your kids can at least imagine what it would be like to catch a wave and hang ten like the Big Kahuna himself!
The family room on the terrace level features a 46 inch LCD flat screen TV, with satellite and blu-ray DVD player. Bookcases hold lots of games and books (some Hawaiian or surfer related (Surf's Up!, Monopoly Surfer Addition, Tiki Mountain, as well as all your favorites), to keep you entertained when you are not on the lake.
The gaming area is NHL-inspired (Go Penguins!) and features a deluxe air hockey table (with an awesome sound/scoring system) and a foosball table. A four person pub table covered in 1980's hockey player cards makes grabbing a snack or playing cards downstairs convenient (and entertaining if you are a hockey fan!).
Terrace level patio features table for four, fire bowl (great for smores) and two chaise lounge chairs for soaking in the lakeside view. Pathway to our dock starts right at the concrete patio -- follow it for about a minute down a shaded pathway to the dock, which is resting in one of the most pristine coves on Hartwell...yes, you can see your toes! Enjoy a nap in the lakeside hammock at nestled in the trees at the shoreline. Bring your boat(s), we have room in our double-slip dock with extra-large swim platform. Hang out all day on our colorful Adirondack chairs and watch the kids have the time of their lives! Our protected cove is just off the "big water" of the lake. We are close to the dam, Hartwell Marina and not too far from the river channels, for exploring. This is the perfect lake location! Local slalom course is just 15 minutes away! Lots of large islands to boat to and explore! You will love this location!!!

Why the Owner Chose Hartwell
We decided to leave the hot sun and sand of beach vacations behind us. We love the peace and traquility found at the lake, the water clarity at Hartwell is amazing. We love our location, near the "big water" and the marina, for convenience. Hart County is beautiful - pastoral, with fields of sunflowers and grazing cows in the pastures. The warm country breezes and the clear sparkling waters of the lake have a way of taking the stress level down to zero.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our location can't be beat. Close to town for shopping, close to the marina for gas, close to the big water of the dam for that "wow" factor. We also are not new to renting. Although this house is new, our other lake property has been renting since 2005 and we know what folks want and need when they are vacationing. We make it very easy to drive up, unpack and have everything you need at your fingertips to maximize your lake vacation. Providing the canoe, hydrobike and pedal boats allow even those not bringing a boat the ability to get out and explore the coves. Gordon's Marine is closeby and makes adding a pontoon rental to your stay very easy. The upscale neighborhood is a pleasure to stroll through on an evening walk. The entire experience at Big Kahuna's is one of spoiled luxury and indulgence -- and really, don't we all need that when we are vacationing!

Thanksgiving Getaway 2011

What a wonderful home! It was extremely clean and nicely decorated. It had plenty of room to handle ten of us and the kitchen was well stocked to prepare Thanksgiving dinner (with all of the fixings). I can only imagine the amount of fun that can be had in the summer months on the lake. We rented a boat nearby and got to enjoy the water and tried some fishing... We kayaked, pedal boated and pedal biked daily and enjoyed our time together. Thanks so much for opening your home and allowing us to continue our 12 year family tradition!

The house was beautiful and very large. Decorated nicely and very clean. Hydrobike was lots of fun even in November's cool weather. Can't think of one bad thing to say. There were 10 of us and we had a wonderful stay at Big Kuhana. Would like to return in the summer.

Thank you Lisa for sharing your incredibly beautiful home on Lake Hartwell. We enjoyed all the games and toys -- With the Hydrobike being everybodies favorite. Your home was so well stocked with utensils, china, glasses, crockpot, waffle iron, bikes, life jackets, and water toys, etc. that it was a perfect place for our family reunion of 3 generations. Sitting hours on the lake in October was so peaceful. We loved every minute.

Great Extended Family Retreat

This is a lovely, well appointed, large lake home. Our extended family, multi-generational group of 6 adults and 5 kids was very comfortable. The kids loved the surf-themed bunk room, the poker chips, the movies and the games. Kitchen has all you could need. Ingles was the best nearby supermarket. We didn't eat out at all, much more relaxing to eat in with the kids. We rented a hurricane deck boat from Tri-County Boat rentals -- super service. They met us with the boat at Carter's Ferry boat ramp -- about 10 minutes away by car and similar by boat. We've rented at a few lakes in SC/GA and this house has by far the best collection of water toys at the dock! Having the kayak and pedal boat available was a great bonus. The dock is away from the house, but along a fairly flat path; not steep climb or steps to deal with. We also enjoyed the swing on the dock. Great place for some to wait for returning boaters. This part of Lake Hartwell was very quiet, which was super. Lots of open area for everyone to water ski, tube and knee board. Much more crowded on the northern end of the lake. We had a couple of questions early on in our stay. The owner was very easy to reach and responded quickly with answers for us. The area around this part of the lake is very quiet, and we didn't find any on-lake restaurants. Hartwell is the nearest town and has all the basics. It's probably 20-30 minute drive to get to a slightly larger town like Anderson. This suited us perfectly, but may not be what everyone is looking for. This is a great lake property and we had a great stay.
Owner response:Thanks for the excellent review! The Swamp Guinea has a dock and is about a 20 minute boat ride from the house. It is popular with locals. Siblings started in the summer of 2011 to serve at picnic tables at Hartwell Marina..very casual. If you have a fast boat, you can be at Portman Marina in 40-50 minutes and dine at Nami. We tend to eat and cook at home as well...or pack coolers and use the pontoon as a food barge! See you at the lake!

We spent a week at the Big Kahuna and loved every moment!! The house is beautiful and loaded with everything you might need. We had a great week of relaxing, playing in the lake, fishing, enjoying time together in the house at night and many other fun times. It's only a short drive to the town of Hartwell, so did our grocery shopping when we got there. We even drove to the Hartwell Dam one day, which was enjoyable. We just couldn't stop commenting about what a fabulous place and location this is. It was unanimous and we are in the process of planning our return for next year!!

We had a family vacation with our 3 sons and their families July 3-10 2010 It was a great experience. The house was beautiful, clean warm and had everything you would need to make your vacation great. The water toys were fun and the owners were helpful and answered all our questions and helped with finding a boat we could ski and tube behind. There was planty of room and all the beds were comfortable and decorated beautifuly. The kitchen had everything you needed and more. You felt right at home and could relax on the deck or dock. You felt like you were in another world and could leave all your cares behind. This is the perfect house for a large family and the lake is just beautiful. We would stay there again and plan to do so, as well telling all our firends. If you want a great vacation, a great place to stay and nice people to work with that help make your vacation great than this is the place to stay. The place had so much to offer that we never left the lake. The guys did play golf, but the women just soaked up the sun and enjoyed staying cool in the water. We will be back. Linda, John and family Florida and georgia

Our family spent five nights at this beautiful lakefront home. It is large, comfortable, and very clean. The lake is a short, shady walk from the house and the kids and adults had a fun-filled time playing on the lake with the kayak, hydrobike and pedal boat which the owners generously share with their guests. The home is lovely inside and out, and the lake is clean, clear, and quiet. We had a great time and would highly recommend it!

Excellent Lake House Rental

Big Kahuna is a great choice for a lake house rental. The house is large, new, very nicely decorated and luxuriously comfortable. The property is naturally beautiful and well landscaped. More importantly the lake is clean, clear and deep at the dock and the dock is new and ample. But what really stands out about this rental is how well appointed and complete the rental is and the number of amenities and extras that are included. The list is too long but includes a kayak, pedal boat, hydrobike, tons of life jackets, floats and noodles of all shapes and sizes, air hockey, foosball, xbox, books, movies, an indispensable second refrigerator, and a suprising amount of little details. As a small example, I can't remember the last time we stayed at a rental property that had a cocktail shaker and a large variety of glasses for entertaining all of which I found in the cabinets. If it isn't there you dont need it. But if you insist stores are conveniently nearby. We found no need to leave the property and lake during our stay. In short, we would highly recommend this rental.
