This place was great for our family get-together. Everybody really liked having private sleeping quarters, while enjoying the spacious common areas. The home is a very short walk from a beautiful sandy beach and the balconies have great ocean views. What made our stay not good, but great, was the communication with the owner: always responsive, courteous, and prompt in sending back the security deposit. We would absolutely recommend this home to renters of any age.

Perfect house for a beach vacation

We just returned from a week staying in this home. The neighborhood was wonderful. It's a quiet spot where children can ride bikes safely and my husband I enjoyed many walks. The beach was quiet too. The owner of the house was friendly and helpful. He lives in the neighborhood, so if we had any questions (how do we work this remote?) he was quick to respond and help us out. The home itself is a dream come true to vacation in. Plenty of room and everything you could ask for. You can't go wrong with renting this home...it's awesome.

Our week was most enjoyable. Although our group included five families, the house was well laid out and spacious enough to accommodate all of us comfortably. There was even a retreat off the living room we used as a quiet office space but could also have slept a child on a blow-up mattress. We all made good use of the elevator to bring heavy things up and down or to avoid using the stairs. The rooms were quiet and comfortable and the kitchen worked well. The very large great room is a wonderful gathering place for any activity. In all, a great house with good parking and easy beach access - we look forward to going back next year.

We rented this house for our family - two married children and their families and ourselves - a total of 12 people. Six children ranging from 8 to 18 years of age. The location of this house was perfect - a very short walk to the beach in a very safe neighborhood. The house was perfect for us with the murphy bed and the jack and jill bedrooms, as well as three master suites, everyone had plenty of room. The great room on the third floor was perfect for meals and just hanging out together. The owner was most attentive and great to work with. We would definitely rent this house again!!

This beach house was very clean when we arrived and was just the right size for our family.(My husband and I, three married sons, wives and their children--seven). There was plenty of room and the large kitchen, dining and living room area was great for all 15 of us. We really feel that this was the best house we ever rented for closeness to the beach without being oceanfront. You could easily have young children walk back to the house from the beach for lunch or if they needed to use the bathroom. The beach wasn't crowded and there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sand and water. The elevator was quite useful instead of carrying all our luggage and food to the upper two levels. Our family had a great time. We usually try to go to different places each summer, but if we would come back to Virginia Beach, we would certainly rent this house again.

We loved this light, open, spacious house! The great room was filled with lots of clean windows. It was large enough for multiple groups to be at various activities, like dinner prep, puzzles, watching the news and playing a board game without the least feeling of being cramped. The kitchen, which is well equipped for large groups, is a part of the great room, so allows the cooks to be a part of any conversation. The design of the house is wonderful. The suites allow for real privacy, even with three generations in the house at once! The upstairs suite where we stayed had very comfortable beds giving us an extra good sleep each night. Another aspect of the house that was most appreciated was the enclosed hot/cold shower outside of the house that really made a difference in stopping sand from coming into the house. We look forward to renting again next year!

This house is beautiful but comfortable. The bedrooms are roomy and the bed set up is perfect for a large extended family. The balconies (on each floor) are a lovely way to enjoy the outdoors. My daughters, daughter-in-law, and I would love to have this kitchen at home--it's a cook's dream! We spent every day at the beach, just a quick walk across the street, and the sand and waves were WONDERFUL! Best of all, unlike other beaches, it wasn't crowded at all! We look forward to returning to "our" beach house in the future.

I just got back from a week at the beach with family members from all over the US. We had couples of many ages, kids of different ages and an older grandmother. This house was so well designed and furnished it made for a relaxing and worry free week. I have been the CEO of a vacation rental business in the past and understand the difference between a house that an owner wants to just make money on and one where the owners truly care about the renters' experience. These owners are at the top of the list when it comes to providing everything you could need in a big, spacious, beautifully furnished and outfitted beach house that gives everyone some privacy and also allows for big group dining and gathering. In my 20 years in the business I would have to rank this beach house at the top of the list for value and character and quality. LOVED IT! Plus it is an easy access to the beach. They even provide beach chairs and beach towels.Many thanks to the owners for their commitment and conscientious care of this home.

My wife and I decided to try to get the whole family together for a week this summer. We have 3 children, 2 are married and 1 infant granddaughter. We brought along my mother-in-law so we were happy to find this large rental home 1 block from the beach with a handicap bathroom in the first floor bedroom. The elevator was really very helpful for all. The 5 bedrooms/5 1/2 bathrooms were just right for our group of 9. We could have easily fit 4 or 5 more. The accommodations were amazing and the kitchen was well stocked. The beach was private with a lifeguard. The landlord even had a supply of beach chairs, beach toys and a few umbrellas. The neighborhood was quiet and away from the crowds of downtown but only 5 minutes by car. We all had a great time.

We recently hosted our family at this lovely home. It was fantastic. The house is very large....comfortable with lots of amenities....flat screen in family room....all bedrooms except the Jack/Jill have tv's too....extremely high speed internet....the kitchen has everything...plenty of dishes and serving pieces (and anything else you can think of). This house is furnished more like a home than a beach rental. It also has an elevator which is extremely convenient for getting groceries and luggage where it needs to be. There is a short walk to the beach and because this is in a residential area, it felt very secluded without overcrowding....but still had a lifeguard. The location is very convenient to any and everything...shopping, restaurants, attractions. We loved our stay and cannot think of one negative issue except that the week had to end. Thanks to Lee (the owner)....he lives close by and is very attentive without being obtrusive. His only concern is that your stay is perfect..

Spent a perfect week at this house. This house is large, lovely, and suitable for family reunions or a stay with friends. One can either socialize with everyone else in the main room or third floor balcony, or go down a level to a less used balcony for quiet moments of conversation or reading. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable. The bathrooms, especially the master bath is luxurious. This house is in a residential area, so the neighborhood is quiet and well maintained. The beach is a two minute walk, and is clean and safe with lifeguards.

We absolutely loved our vacation at this rental! It was clean, beautiful, and had everything that we needed for a great vacation. The beach was just a short minute walk up the street which is lined with beautiful homes. This is a lovely community...not lined with hotels and tons of people. We enjoyed just going for walks to look at all the beautiful homes, gardens, and waterways. The beach was quiet, clean, and was not crowded at all.

The Perfect Experience

This immaculate 3-story beach house is in the perfect location. The community is residential and the property is only a few hundred feet to the beach. The open floor plan is great for a big group - we spent most of our time together in the great room. The kitchen is fully stocked and well laid out. Lee, the owner, is a pleasure to work with. He is responsive, accommodating, and has great attention to detail. Lee made us feel like our satisfaction was his #1 priority. I would completely recommend this to a friend and I hope to return to 631 Vanderbilt soon.

Absolutely amazing experience from the day we decided to book. Owner went above and beyond to ensure that everything was perfect. Excellent experience. The home was beautiful and very spacious. (The photos are nice - but do not do it justice as to how nice and large this home is). We had three groups within our family (5 adults and 9 children) and everyone had a lot of space for themselves yet had plenty of space to enjoy a lot of time together. The top floor was open and large enough for everyone to be together comfortably. The elevator was a huge incentive for us to rent this home. My nephew has MD and the elevator enabled him to move around the house easily and for him to enjoy every aspect of the vacation! Grommet Island is minutes away and is an amazing spot for children of all ages to enjoy the beach and playground with wheel chair access. www.grommetisland.org The beach is extremely close, very easy and close walk and not crowded at all. Lots of beach space with the benefit of lifeguards too. The homes location is very private and residential but convenient to everything - entertainment, food, etc within minutes away. We have rented vacation homes every summer for 10 years - this is by far the best one we have ever stayed in. We will absolutely be back again! We whole heartily recommend this rental!!

Excellent from Arrival to Departure

After a lot of research on vacation rentals in the area, this house seemed to have the best options for our needs and had good reviews. Not only did it meet all of our high expectations but it far exceeded them. The house itself is very spacious, and the pictures do not do it justice with just how much room you do have. We had up to 12 people there, and we were never crowded or fighting for space. The living area on the 3rd floor was extremely open with plenty of room. The location of the house was also great. It was 1 block from the beach with an easy walk, and you don't have anywhere near the large crowds on the beach like you do in front of the hotels. You pretty much had your pick of a spot on the beach. There were plenty of activities within a very short drive (aquarium, boardwalk, bike rentals, miniature golfing, dolphin watching, etc.) and there were even coupons provided to give discounts to these activities. There were also restaurants and grocery stores within a few minutes drive to the house if you wanted to buy food or eat out. The elevator was very wonderful; we had some toddlers as well as a 91-year old who got some good use out of it. It was also helpful to take luggage and groceries up without having to negotiate the stairs. The owner was very responsive and cordial. He promptly answered all our questions and even provided traffic suggestions on our way there to keep us out of high congestion areas. We definintely got all our money's worth for the week.

The family all got together for a wonderful week at this great vacation rental. Everyone from age 1 to 61 had a great time!! It's the best "non ocean front" location one can rent! Short walk to the beach was a great plus! So nice having an elevator---especially for the "coming and going days"...so easy to take up the groceries, etc. Kitchen had everything we needed...and then some. Upon our arrival the beds were made up to perfection...so inviting! We had the max. number of people and no one felt crowded at all. Some visited the boardwalk area closeby, others got some great fishing and crabbing in, still others took bike rides around the peacful neigborhood.....and some even stayed right at the house or ocean and never ventured off to another place. There was something for everyone in this primelocation. Owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything to make our stay memorable.

The perfect beach vacation!

Preparing for this vacation was quite hectic but the owner stayed engaged and responsive, making it much easier on us. Lee will make sure you questions are answered and needs are met. The house was perfect. It had everything we could ask for and more - luxuriously designed for a fabulous beach vacation. The elevator made unloading and loading vehicles a snap. Everyone was thrilled with their bedroom (no one felt short-changed) and the flat screen in the living room will make you want to go home and buy a new TV! There is plenty of room in the house for everyone to seek privacy when needed, or gather as a group. I have never seen a kitchen better stocked from griddle to pots and pans to dishes galore. The washer and dryer meant less clothes to pack. The beach was just as we hoped. Sparsely populated and close enough to the house that we felt safe letting the kids run back and forth from the house. We saw dolphins galore, sometimes swimming within 15 yards of us! There are lots of activities relatively close. We took advantage of the bike path for jogging and rollerblading. We were able to rent tennis rackets at the nearby public park. We took advantage of surfing lessons being offered on the beach and a day trip to nearby Colonial Williamsburg lots of fun! I highly recommend this home for your next beach vacation. You will NOT be disappointed!

A wonderful week in a perfect setting with so many things to rave about: house plan is amazing, huge kitchen/greatroom area with everything a cook could ask for; 2 comfortable decks for viewing the ocean; plenty of sleeping space (there were only 4 of us and a toddler--we were tempted to invite friends after we arrived) 1.6 miles to Rockafeller's restaurant; a short walk to Virginia Aquarium; convenient to grocery stores; super-clean house. Croatan is quiet and uncrowded. Owner Lee is so helpful and entertaining as well! We want to go back!!!!

First off, the owners of this house are so helpful and kind. They take a lot of pride in their property -- and if you get a chance to chat with them, you will be blessed! The house is new, clean, comfortable, and so close to the beach. Listening to the ocean as you fall asleep, star-gazing from the top porch, or strolling on the beach just yards away makes the perfect vacation. There is a ton of room in all bedrooms and closets. The wood floors are beautiful and the huge kitchen/living area is perfect for a huge gathering of friends and family. There are also nice perks like an elevator, a whirlpool tub, a huge flat screen t.v., an outdoor shower, and an air hockey table. I lived here during a long-term winter rental, and can't wait to return for a week with my girlfriends again!

Awesome house for a vacation at the beach! It was such a short distance to the shoreline, I could walk with my 5 month old and 4 year old with all of the stuff no problem! The house was spacious enough for 5 other couples and kids, it was well-equipped with cooking supplies and everything you need to have a good time, and it was super clean! Good job to the cleaning staff:)

This house was amazing. The 3rd floor great room (living/kitchen) was huge and served as a great place for games, food and time spent with the 5 couples we went with. The deck off this room served as a great place to get away for outdoor chilling and talking privately. The house is a 2 minute walk from the beach and its outdoor shower was great to use when I just wanted to get the sand off before going in. Rooms were spacious and offered the perfect amount of privacy. This was the best vacation with friends yet.

Our family had a great week for our first trip to Va. Beach and a big part of it was enjoying our stay at the Vanderbilt. The house is beautiful with all of the necessary accomodations. It is spacious with a great room that is perfect for families. Also the elevator is a big help in carrying luggage, groceries, etc. to the 3rd floor. The location is perfect being just a short walk from the beach and the Croatan area is quiet, but close to everything. I would highly recommend the Vanderbilt to families, small or large!

This was a great house! We had plenty of room for our large group of 16 (9 adults, 7 young kids). We enjoyed cooking together, grilling on the deck, and playing air hockey. The walk to the beach was short and easy w/kids, and we appreciated the cart, sand toys, and boogie boards that were available.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this house! There were three families - a total of 15 of us, and 4 were young children. We never felt crowded or that we lacked privacy. The floor plan is ideal for being altogether or for having your own space. The decks also offer an opportunity to get away, and the beach is a mere 100 yards from the front door, and is easliy visible from the great room and the decks. The ocean access is quick - about 2 minutes, and the beach itself is gorgeous, private, and life-guarded. It is just an ideal situation - a large, comfortable, well-appointed, and lovely home in a quiet, private area, just minutes from the ocean, and a quick drive to the local attractions. Perfect! The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, utensils, appliances, pots & pans, etc. and makes eating-in a pleasure. It is not lacking anything. I recommend getting the additional linen and towel service. Good quality, convenient, and relatively inexpensive. The owner is a very pleasant and hospitable gentleman who truly wants you to enjoy his home. I could not recommend a place more highly, and if you go, please take very good care of everything because we want to come back!!!

This is a great house!!! Plenty of room for our family of 10 people to hang out. The kitchen is very large and well laid out so you can never have too many cooks in the kitchen. There are two nice outdoor decks for hanging out or outdoor dining if the weather permits. The elevator was nice to have to deliver groceries and luggage to the upper floors. Lee, the owner, is a great guy and gracious host! The beach is only steps away and is a guarded beach which made us feel safe. I like the fact that it is a local beach and you don't have the crowds and the riff-raff of the boardwalk area. The boardwalk is close enough to walk to if you put on comfortable shoes (and if you get tired rent bikes for a few days to get back and forth to the beach!). The house is convenient to several grocery stores (I preferred the Harris Teeter or Farm Fresh over the Food Lion). It's also very close to the Virginia Aquarium and mini-golf, go cars if you have kids (big or small) to entertain. For dining check out the restaurants nearby on the Rudee Inlet.

This is one of the best VRBO rentals we have used. It was a great place for our group of 15. The 5 bedrooms gave everyone the privacy they needed and yet the great room and kitchen area were big enough for all of us to get together. One problem we have had in the past is even though the ad states it is for 12 - 15 people, there are not enough dishes or seating for that many. That is not the case here. Everything is supplied for a group of 15 or more. The elevator comes in handy for someone who can't climb 3 stories of stairs or for sending up luggage or groceries. We loved sitting on the decks, enjoying the sun and listening to the waves. The beach is a quick 3-5 minute walk away. The owner also supplied boogey boards, chairs and a wheeled cart to get them down to the beach. After you are done at the beach, there is an outside shower to get rid of the salt water and sand. You can't go wrong renting this place, especially if you have a big family or several families combined.
