Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
My wife and I love Mammoth, all year around. We met in Mammoth, and visited Mammoth while dating, so now that we are married, we had to own in a place that means so much to us. We both love to travel, and stay in nice hotels. When we remodeled our condo, our inspiration was the Westin and W Hotels. I am on the board for the Home Owners Association; a board dedicated to keeping the Chamonix Condos beautiful and up to date. You will find it hard to find a nicer facility and better location in Mammoth.
Why the Owner Chose Chamonix
Chamonix is one of the finest complexes in Mammoth. It is a very short walk to Canyon Lodge for skiiing and boarding. The facilities are very nice inside and out. Beware - not all units at Chamonix are remodeled, and few are as nice as ours.
The Unique Benefits of this Condo
We are a very short walk to Canyon Lodge, which has become the center of Mammoth Mountain. The people and facilities at Canyon are first class. When the weather is nice, Canyon Lodge hosts bands in the afternoon for apres ski. If the weather is not so nice, stop by Austria Hof Hotel on the way down the mountain for libations with vacationers and locals.
In the summer, mountain bikers enjoy bike in/bike out convenience. You can leave the door and bike downhill to the village to by park passes and take the bike shuttle to the top. You can also bike into the condo by any trail that ends at Canyon Lodge.
In the summer we enjoy hiking in the mountains, road trips to nearby lakes, fishing, and boating in the nearby lakes. There are so many things to see and do, (Yosemite, Devils Postpile, ghost towns, hidden falls and lakes, rock climbing, etc)that we always find new adventures.

Chamonix at Mammoth

Compared to other condo projects within walking distance to Canyon Lodge, this one bedroom unit was the cheapest to rent over the holiday weekend. The unit was clean with some recent updating, the murphy bed was a plus for the kids. Ambient lighting was dark as it is a north facing unit. Typical of electrical heating units in the high altitude at Mammoth, the inside air was bone dry at night, sleeping was tough. There was no cable service to the living room flat screen, only to the flat screen in the bedroom. The common areas are clean, the spa nice and hot. The patio was small and made smaller by the cord of firewood right outside the sliding glass door. Parking was a little tight but manageble (holiday weekend). Proximity to the Austria Hoff restaurant/bar across the street was nice (good food, pricy). The off site management was very helpful. No major problems, overall a decent stay.
Owner response:Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you had a decent stay, but we wish it was even better. To this end, we have recently updated the living room TV to a 40 inch high def flat panel with a high def cable/DVR. You can also plug in any HDMI device to the TV to view movies. In addition, you can now plug your audio device, such as an iPod into the audio system. In 2011 there was a record setting snowfall that lead to snow piled up in front of all the windows. We have told the property manager to keep the windows clear. We are also storing less wood on the balcony to provide better access. Humidity is always hard to come by in Mammoth. I suggest guests consider bringing a small humidifier with them to the unit. We have tried keeping one on site, but they tend to disappear.
