Ansouis is rated one of the Plus Beaux /Most Beautiful Villages in France. Known by visitors for its historic chateau, and by locals for its exquisite restaurant, La Closerie, it has retained a truly authentic quality. The village itself will look after your daily needs with its bakery, café, post office, newspaper shop, and a small but well-equipped grocery market. On Sunday, a lively open air market comes to town, with the aroma of roasted chickens, cured meats, local cheeses, fruit, olives and delicious wines. The same market can be found at other local villages throughout the week.

The local area offers something for everyone; notable wineries, serious hikes or gentle promenades, biking tours (rentals are available in nearby Pertuis), ice cream heaven at L’Art Glacier, or a swim in our nearby fresh water lake, Etang de la Bonde. The historic villages of Loumarin, Cucuron, and Vaugines are minutes away.

Situated at the base of the Golden Triangle of the Luberon, the region offers many popular festivals throughout the year, photography in Arles, music and dance in Aix en Provence, and theatre in Avignon to name but three. It is less than 25 min to Aix en Provence, 45 minutes to the sprawling antique market at Isle sur la Sorgue, an hour to Cassis, Marseille, Avignon, and Arles. Take a ‘French’ picnic to the beach at Sanary Sur Mer or take a boat trip to swim in the hidden coves of the Calanques, or explore the wild beauty of the Camargue on horseback.

Easy access by train (Aix en Provence TGV 25 minutes by car from the house and 2.5 hours from Paris), airport (Marseilles, 40 minutes by car) and other cosmopolitan centers (Nice 3 hours, Avignon 45 minutes by car).

The house:
This authentic village house dating back to the 16th Century offers the perfect base for your stay in the region. Its southern aspect, and all the rooms, look over a gentle valley where each season brings new colors and sights, as the farmers nurture the land and their livelihood. Despite its antiquity, the house offers every modern convenience to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The house is new to the rental market, having been completely restored during 2008. Everything is new, from bed linens, to appliances, although much of the furniture is antique.

Garage: Provides valuable off-street parking, and storage for bikes and the like, and direct access to the house.

First Floor: Two adjoining bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, one with twin beds, one with a double bed. Both provide storage for clothing.

Second Floor: Open plan fully equipped kitchen/living area makes the most of the south facing light to create a very comfortable living space, which includes a fireplace, ample seating, and a large round dining table. There is also a bathroom equipped with a shower, basin, toilet, bath and washing machine. In the entrance, there is a writing table and chair, and an additional wc.

Third Floor: Large master bedroom with high ceilings, a queen sized four-poster bed, generous storage, an arm chair, and table and chair, with internet access. The terrace overlooks the valley, perfect for a quiet read, breakfast, a casual supper, or even sleeping outside on a warm night under the stars.

    • Our late September stay in Provence was wonderful. The house is spacious and comfortable, the shower is outstanding, and the views are awesome. We especially enjoyed breakfast, drinks and dinner on the terrace while we sipped Luberon wines and enjoyed the view. The house is ideally situated--a boulangerie is literally forty paces from the door, and not much beyond that is the Tabac, the Bar, the grocery, the small town square, and an outstanding restaurant, La Closerie. All Provence is within easy reach. Wine-lovers should make a special effort to visit Chateau La Dorgonne in nearby La Tour dAigues and try their magnificent red, "L'Expression Du Terroir." Thank you for providing comfort,, charm, convenience and an up-close contact with daily life in Provence.

    • For me, France always meant Paris, which I've visited many times. But Ansouis opened up a whole new experience for me. The house is great -- roomy, comfortable, modern, and perfectly located. The village is almost too perfect -- small, friendly, well located, and quiet. You can just relax in the village and fall into the quiet rhythm of life there, or you can explore everything from other small towns to vineyards to cities such as Aix, all withing easy driving. This is a priceless find.

    • Our family (two kids, ages 5 and 3) stayed at this wonderful house in the summer of 2009. The location is spectacular: the town is quaint and warm and the surrounding valley an endless bounty of beauty. The house, tucked away on a small alley against the hillside, is comfortable and spacious, with a phenomenal view from the deck, and worked perfectly with kids. We would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a place in Provence.

    • The House in this wonderful village gave my family the rest needed. fresh bread three doors down and wonderful views, what more could you ask for. The village is situated far enough off the main road but close enough to see alot of Provence.giving us much exposure and plenty to see. I am an artist and designer and found not only this village breathtaking but all the other villages near by, I came back to the states with many ideas for my clients and myself. Thanks again Lucy
