Located on Petit Manan Point in the town of Steuben between Pigeon Hill Bay and Dyer Bay, this vacation rental is just 1 hour from Acacia National Park / Bar Harbor to the South or Campobello International Park to the East.
The cottage, offers a semi private grass/clay beach on the Carrying Place Cove (an inlet off Dyer Bay), which is perfect for Canoeing, Kayaking, Swimming or Fishing. Be sure to bring a boat, canoe, or kayak and explore Abbot Island. There are acres of wild Blueberries, Raspberries and Cranberries waiting to be harvested (depending on the time of year). Just across the street is the rock beach of Pigeon Hill Bay, offering hours of beach combing and up the road a piece (under a ¼ mile) is the entrance to the Petit Manan Federal Wildlife Refuse, with its miles of hiking trails, there is always somewhere to explore. Don’t be surprised to see Deer, Fox, Moose, Bald Eagles, or Osprey from the back deck of the cottage, as you lounge in the sun and smell the rose thicket. The large flat backyard offers the perfect place for children or pets to play. Croquet anyone? At the end of the day, you wouldn’t be able to take your eyes off of spectacular sunset over Carrying Place Cove (It is very rare to see a western sunset over water in this area of the country).
The cottage offers all of the comforts of home including, Direct TV (HBO and Starz included), Washer/Dryer, DVD, VCR, Stereo, Computer with Internet, Phone Service (long distance is included in the rental fee), and a full bathroom with tub. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove; linens are included. In the evening be sure to sit back and enjoy our extensive selection of books by the gas fireplace, or get the telescope out to see one of the last unobstructed views of the Milky Way galaxy available in the northeastern US. Despite, the appearance of remoteness the town of Milbridge is just 9 miles away and features a supermarket, Movie Theater, medical care, Post Office, ATM and a number of small shops, restaurants and café’s. Local seafood is always available from the fish/lobster market on Pigeon Hill Rd. If your up early enough you might be able to get some world famous Maine Lobsters straight off the boat. For other items Ellsworth is 30 miles to the South and Bangor is 70 miles to the southwest. This small piece of paradise has been in our family for over forty years, may you enjoy it as much as we have.
