True Island living..outdoors and indoors become one awesome experience
Location: Private Homes, Fort Myers, Florida South West, Florida, USA (Located in Fort Myers' McGregor Blvd Historical District) View Map
Accommodations: Home, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4)
Duncan's Tropical Beach Bungalow is probably one of the "coolest" homes in Southwest Florida. The "bungalow" has the feel of the islands with solid yellow pine and Mexican tile floors, high end West Indies style furnishings, Florida plantation shutters, crown molding in every room, gourmet kitchen...even an outdoor shower adjacent to the master bath.
French doors open onto a literal "jungle" of palm and banana trees, two sandy beaches bordering the oversize solar heated pool. Wriggle your feet in the sand, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire, or take a nap in the hammock for two.. The vegetation is so dense, you can skinny dip in complete privacy.
Two butterfly gardens are home to numerous species of butterflies; monarchs, queens, whites, sulphurs, gulf fritillaries, and swallowtails to name a few....depending on the season, you could be sharing this jungle paradise with 75-100 butterflies. You'd think that there was an air battle in progress.
We maintain an organic vegetable garden, (help yourself), as well as an organic herb garden on the deck adjacent to the kitchen. Should you be a TV or movie fan, you'll enjoy the "movie theater" experience with the retractable 72 inch screen and surround sound system.
Just add freshly popped popcorn. WI-FI equipped.
The office, can be converted to a sleeping room should you desire to sleep more than four.. Let us know your preference.
We welcome furry 4 legged creatures and the "jungle" is completely fenced so they can run free. We simply ask that you behave as responsible pet owners...nobody enjoys a barking dog.
Located in the historic McGregor Blvd. district of Fort Myers, Duncan's Tropical Beach Bungalow is conveniently located to our famous beaches, Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel/Captiva Islands, about 20-25 minutes; Regional SW Int'l airport is 25 minutes away.
We just recently opened our "paradise retreat" to guests in January 2009. We realize that our prices are substantially below market for similar properties, (if you could find one) ...we also suspect that once you experience our lifestyle, you will be back, or, at least...recommend us to your friends

Duncan's Tropical Beach Bungalow
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
In my case, Duncan's Tropical Beach Bungalow is my home... when it's rented,,,which tends sometimes to seem like...too often...I'm off camping or travelling... I've lived in SW Florida since 1974, first on Sanibel then here in Ft Myers since 2000... I have wanderlust,...but it's tough to beat SW Florida.
The Unique Benefits at this Home
The "bungalow" gives you the feeling that you are in residence on your own private tropical island... some of our guests had great intentions of sampling all of the wonderments of the "Lee Island Coast"...and ended up rarely leaving the "bungalow". I especially enjoy dawn in the "jungle", The birds are all coming to life, and those are the only sounds...the pampas grass is reflected in the pool...a perfect opportunity for some quiet meditation...
A fun evening of upbeat entertainment...Emphasis on musicals www.broadwaypalm.com
Great store...friendly helpfull employees, full bakery, organic produce, great deli, fresh seafood, nice wine selection
Great little theater a few blocks from the bungalow. Next door to the Broadway Palm Theater. www.theatreconspiracy.org/
Just down the street and well worth the trip. Check out: thomasedison.com

Hi, I'm Duncan, Allen Bruce Duncan, actually...Duncan to my friends...originally from Ontario, stops at Bowling Green State University, IBM (I've been moved, Seattle, Toledo, Buffalo, Portland OR).Bought a Sanibel Island eatery, Scotty's Pub in 1974. Three or four reasonably successful businesses in the meantime. Bought the "bungalow" in 2003 and basically rebuilt the box, little by little...Some awesome input on design by my artist/designer friend Dick Hartmann, the fabulous "jungle" was mostly the vision of Ann Perch, over 50 palm trees, banana plants, bamboo...the sandy beaches, poolside...were my daughter Kathy's idea.
Most of the work I have done...after 6 years the bungalow continues to be a work in progress...

Dear Duncan: When we stepped into your bungalow we couldn't believe our luck! It is truly a paradise and we enjoyed being so close to nature. The pool in the morning was just magical. We did a lot of fun things like a day safari thru the everglades, shopping, dolphin tours and a lot of hanging by the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva. We will never forget this great vacation Thank you, Annette & Marieke

Dear Duncan: We came down to support our Colorado State Baseball Team. What we discovered was the most relaxing atmosphere we have ever spent time at. Other than going to ball games, we spent endless hours by the pool, reading books, or, playing cards. Everyone thought that we had struck gold with our accomodations. We are going to have to get our reservation in early for next year, so, somebody doesn't try to beat us out. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. The Kurtz's and the Holthasen's PS: Thanks for your support of our team. We look forward to seeing you again next year

What a wonderful week we had here at the bungalow! After a very long year our family needed some R&R. We came here to "do nothing" and visit family. We spent our days swimming in the pool and going to the beach. It was perfect! We also invited family over for a BBQ and had a blast. This is a great house for a party!! I'm sure we will be back again...we are counting the days already. The Dills

What a great time we had. This was a wonderful "base" for our family to celebrate mom's 80th birday. Coming here gave us the best of both worlds...being able to spend time with family, AND, having peace and quiet to restore and revive ourselves. Your home is both a fabulous party house and a retreat. So glad you had an opening!! Thanks for helping us give our mom an awesome 80th birthday! The Spillmans

Thanks, Duncan, for a wonderful and very relaxing stay in your bungalow. It was everything and more than we had hoped for. We all needed a break from the Indiana weather and we certainly got that. The weather was beautiful. Thanks again and we hope to be able to visit again real soon. The Shuppert Family

I went to write the date...and couldn't think of it. That's a great sign that I'm relaxed and happy. We had a fabulous time here in Ft Myers, Sanibel and Captiva Islands. We did alot of fun things, airboat ride in the Everglades, cruise through Captiva Islands; saw alligators and dolphins. Watched a breathtaking sunset, picked shells, ran in the "dirt and water" as my son called it, and enjoyed the sunshine. We needed more time...that's for sure, but we are thankful for the opportunity to come and visit. Thank you for all the great memories.

We have travelled the world..our experience here at the "bungalow" was indeed memorable and truly one of the most relaxing vacation experiences in our memory...sitting in the "jungle" poolside with the sun rising, the pool refecting the awesome vegetation, the only sounds coming from the breeze rustling the palm trees and the birds chirping. The butterflies were flitting here and there, and the "resident" hawk sat patiently for almost an hour in the tree wating for his/her breakfast to appear in the canal... it was truly a spiritual experience. The bungalow is truly awesome... Thank you The Rosens
