Charming Home & Guest Cottage on the River
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Healdsburg
We observed that more people (like us) were discovering the many charms of Sonoma Wine Country and, in particular, the charming town of Healdsburg, frequently featured in national food and wine magazines and newspaper travel sections. New high quality restaurants, hotels and unique boutiques started springing up around the Town Square, and the area was being touted as the "new St. Helena." We felt that buying a vacation home in the area would be a good investment and also appeal to vacationers who were growing disenchanted with the crowds and prices of Napa. From our home in Marin County, it's less than an hour's drive to Healdsburg, a convenient distance for us for management, maintenance and quick getaways when the home is unoccupied.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The home is located at the end of a dead end street, set down off the street on the river, ensuring the privacy and tranquility many guests enjoy. A few steps takes you to the water's edge where you can jump in and swim, cast a fishing line or take a short stroll to a nearby beach. The opposite bank of the river is a large natural green belt and attracts many species of waterfowl (heron, egrets, cormorants, ducks, etc.). Upon leaving this tranquil setting, you will find more than 60 world class wineries within 10 miles in three major wine growing regions (Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley). The Pacific Ocean is a scenic 45 minute drive, Lake Sonoma State Park is only 20 minutes away. However, there are few greater pleasures in life than sitting on our deck surrounded by redwoods, watching rafts and canoes float by, while sharing a bottle of local wine with friends and family.
Scenic and challenging city golf course, 1 mile from Redwood Tree House.
Historic Healdsburg Plaza, one of Califonia's few remaining Spanish Colonial Town Squares, featuring upscale boutiques, wine tasting rooms, great restaurants, antique shops, galleries, theatres, conc
A popular area for Fishing, Boating, Swimming, Camping and Picnicking
The town of Calistoga is the northern end of the Napa Valley, famous for its wineries, spas and mineral springs. It's an easy and scenic 35-minute drive from Healdsburg.
See giant old growth redwoods in their natural habitat. A great day trip for nature lovers!
Owner's Map of Healdsburg
We have always loved the scenic beauty and diversity of Sonoma County, often vacationing here from our home in Colorado. Rivers, redwoods, vineyards, fresh local produce, temperate climate and a slower pace of life continue to draw us to this beautiful area. We moved to Marin County in 1997 for San Francisco business interests and fantasized about owning a wine country vacation home. So, when Redwood Tree House was offered for sale in 2002, we purchased it and used Linda's professional interior design expertise to upgrade to a higher level of style and comfort.(Note: The adjacent photo was published in a NY Times article about the home, which is built around a giant redwood tree.)

Such a delightful home and property in every way - the owners clearly care about extra special touches like fresh-picked flowers, a bottle of wine on the counter, etc. It feels like a rainforest with a sweet little river in the backyard. Plenty of room for a large groups but cozy enough for a small one. Simply delightful, the home is wonderful enough by itself but is located within easy distance of Healdsburg, wine country and great hiking.

The Redwood Tree House is exactly as described and maybe even better. It's an enchanting house on a river surrounded by beautiful redwood trees. It is located in one of the prettiest areas of Sonoma Valley and an easy drive to the wineries. The kitchen is well stocked and the owner has a TV in every room and plenty of games and music CD's. The deck is a perfect place for enjoying wine and star gazing. Nearby Healdsburg is a pretty town with many great restaurants and shops and is only a 10 min. drive from the Tree House. I spent a week there with my girlfriends but would love to bring my husband back for a romantic weekend. The owner, Rolly, is extremely helpful with many great suggestions of where to eat and areas to visit. Also, if you have time, there's a wonderful little restaurant in town that I would highly recommend called Zen. Overall, the Redwood Tree House was a wonderful experience.

Our stay at the Redwood Treehouse was wonderful. It was honestly like being at home as our own house has many similarities (no redwood tree growing in the middle of our house, though). One thing I noticed particularly was the feel of the energy there. It is a happy and contented energy which has no doubt come in part from many joyous gatherings over time. Like those before us, we didn't want to leave. Thank-you Linda and Rolly for creating such a peaceful and welcoming environment. Our son's wedding weekend was made that much more special because of it. We will bask in the aftergow a long long time. Kindest regards and sincerest thanks, Verna & Bob :-)

We stayed in the Redwood Tree House for a long weekend in June. This home is very unique and a delight to stay in. You actually enter the home through a giant redwood tree and there is a glassed in Tree growing through the middle of the house! Laying in bed looking up through the skylights to the towering redwoods was amazing. The home is well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay, free wifi internet and even a "house" computer if you don't bring your own. The deck, river views, hot tub, gardens are fantastic! You will not be disappointed if you stay here! We had a 2 families (4 adults and 4 teenagers) stay in the home and separate La Casita and we were very comfortable. If you need more space, there are other rentals on the road. You will love the Redwood Tree House!

We rented for 3 days over Easter this year. First the house is everything that is advertised, the deck looks out onto the river, the jacuzzi is tucked away in the back yard amoung lush greenery and the house does have a beautiful tree encased in glass. I was impressed by the small things, having shampoo, lotions great towels and sheets and the lovely greeting of wine when you first entered the house. It is very quiet and only a short 3 mile ride to healdsburg. Everything worked and the house was very clean. There is deck furniture to enjoy the river and a large dining area inside the house that overlooks the river. Thanks to the owners for allowing guests to enjoy their home. Susan
Owner response:Dear Susan, Thank you for sharing your positive experience with our future guests. We try our best to provide a clean, comfortable and attractive home for vacationers to relax and enjoy the many charms of Healdsburg and Sonoma Wine Country. We hope to see you again soon! Our 2nd stay at the Redwood Tree House and it feels like it’s our dream vacation home. Enjoyed the best of all worlds. Sunning by the river, relaxing in the hot tub, stargazing at night, cozy fireplace, visiting with family and friends that live nearby, a drive to Mendocino coast and fine dining in Healdsburg too! Could have easily stayed twice as long. Comfortably equipped. Hope to be back again soon.

This is a fabulous property on the Russian River in a very quiet neighborhood, and only three miles from Healdsburg. The house is well-equipt and comfortable with a spacious eating area for morning coffee as you watch the river and wildlife below. The beds were comfortable including a daybed which is large enough for an adult. Rolly was wonderful to work with and extremely efficient with the booking. Would definitely stay there again. -Jon, Cape Elizabeth, ME

We had a wonderful stay at the Redwood Tree House. We've rented many houses on the river but the RTH is by far the best because of its location and the proximity to the town square of Healdsburg. The house was very cozy - it is neat to have the redwood tree in the kitchen and the front door is very whimsical. We had such a great time.
