Hi, We are Nancy and Lee Carver. We purchased this property a couple of years ago as both a vacation retreat for ourselves, and a place that we can share with others who enjoy the beauty of Harvey Lake and New Hampshire. We both have full-time jobs (Lee is a pharmacist, Nancy works in the postal service), and spend our free time in Northwood....We love it and think you will too!
Why the Owner Chose Northwood
We selected this property for a couple of reasons. Northwood is geographically close to Concord, Portsmouth and the Lakes/White Mountains. The location is perfect if you want to get away for just a short time or extended stay since it's an easy commute to Massachusetts, Maine, and all of South/Central New Hampshire. Second, the lake is clean and quite! Many NH lakes have become filled with the traffic of many larger boats. Harvey lake is big enough so that you could use a jetski or motorboat, yet small enough to paddle a kayak or canoe without fear. Rarely have we seen more than 3 boats on the 125 acre lake at one time. It's just great!

We rented the orange cottage for a week. Cute cottage! Very relaxing. Enjoyed taking the kayak out on the lake. We had no problems when we were there. Met Nancy and Lee - very nice people. Definately worth the price for a week! Would rent again for a quiet getaway!
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children.

FYI: Owners are not on site & do not "manage" well...we got there & lights to our cottage did not work...neither did TV & owner knew this--never fixed it but she did get lights working by 6:30 at night (with help from my husband)...screen door of cottage was ripped open...other people's dogs were not controlled or on leashes...took three times asking to get that taken care of and it still was a battle...dog feces were all around & beach was littered with trash until my husband & I picked it up....disappointing for $75 a night. We will not return next year.
Owner response:Thank you for your comments. While it's true we both have full time jobs and do not spend all of our free time at the cottage, we do come by several times per week and are always available by phone. Like you, we are horrified to find that other guests sometimes can't pick up after themselves or control their pets....and we did speak with them about it. We aren't sure what was wrong with the television as we weren't told about it, though it is DISH network, which seems prone to problems. (We are looking into Direct TV based upon your comments). Please thank your husband for installing the lightbulb, and helping Nancy fix the lights :) We apologize that your stay was not up to your expectations, but appreciate that you still thought it deserved "3 stars". We get better every day and hope you will be back to vacation with us again. Thanks!, Nancy and Lee
