Relax in this cozy, spacious log home, centrally located in the village of Somesville, on the "quiet" side of the island, with easy access to all the hiking trails, carriage roads, and ocean views that Acadia National Park has to offer. A private deck has furniture and gas grill and overlooks moss-covered woods.
The house has cathedral ceilings, a wood stove, and a very well-furnished kitchen. If it rains, there is a DVD/VCR with 90 videos, DSL wireless high speed internet service, and shelves full of books and games.
The 3 bedrooms (5 beds) can sleep 7. The master bedroom and bath are on the upstairs level; two connected but private bedrooms are on the main level, right next to the full bathroom. Children are very welcome, but no pets please, and no smoking.
This log cabin in the woods has a garage, where you can store bikes and kayaks. Long Pond, Echo Lake, and Somes Sound are close at hand for kayaking, canoeing, or swimming. For more information, please click on my website listed below.

- Telephone: The house has a telephone with answering machine and a long distance block, so please bring your phone card for long distance calls. Phone calls all over Mount Desert Island and to Ellsworth are considered local calls.

- The Somesville town dock is 2 miles from the house, for easy boat or kayak launching. Bikes and kayaks can be easily stored in the garage. There are lots of games, puzzles, and books for all ages.

- Handicapped Accessible (may have limitations): There is a back entrance from the deck with about 5 steps, and spotlights available for coming back to the house at night. Living area is then accessible, including kitchen, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms.
- Kid Friendly: There are plenty of items stored in the basement for your little ones to use, including a crib, playpen, stroller, booster seat, activity center, high chair, infant tub, bouncer, various chairs including a potty chair, rocking horse, outlet covers, gates, and more, so that you can leave yours behind.

- Beech Hill Haven is centrally located on Mount Desert Island, with Acadia National Park at your doorstep. There is so much to see and do here, depending on your interests. Take a hike, or ride your bike on the many carriage roads, with a stop at Jordan Pond House for popovers on the lawn. Or rent a canoe or kayak, go birdwatching, fishing, or swimming, sit on some rocks and watch the waves at high tide, take a ranger led walk or boat ride to one of the nearby islands, go to one of the lovely nearby gardens, or play golf. Of course, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Northeast Harbor are just minutes away, with lots of shops and restaurants to explore. A fresh Maine lobster is always a delicious vacation treat. It’s also great to relax at the house with a good book or video, put your feet up, and watch the wildlife that stops by.

July, August .. $1450/week; $1300 week of Aug. 29-Sept. 5
All rentals are Saturday to Saturday, with a $300 deposit.
In addition, there is a 7% Maine sales and use tax.
50% of the rental amount will confirm your reservation, with the
balance due 30 days before the rental.
Discount of $50/week for stays of two weeks or longer.

What a great vacation! The log cottage was wonderful; spacious, yet cozy, well-equipped and comfortable. We loved waking up to the sound of the loon and watching the doe and fawn out the window as they grazed in the backyard.
