- Beech Hill Haven is centrally located on Mount Desert Island, with Acadia National Park at your doorstep. There is so much to see and do here, depending on your interests. Take a hike, or ride your bike on the many carriage roads, with a stop at Jordan Pond House for popovers on the lawn. Or rent a canoe or kayak, go birdwatching, fishing, or swimming, sit on some rocks and watch the waves at high tide, take a ranger led walk or boat ride to one of the nearby islands, go to one of the lovely nearby gardens, or play golf. Of course, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Northeast Harbor are just minutes away, with lots of shops and restaurants to explore. A fresh Maine lobster is always a delicious vacation treat. It’s also great to relax at the house with a good book or video, put your feet up, and watch the wildlife that stops by.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
I work as a Department of Public Health Care Coordinator for children with special health care needs. I live north of Boston, about 5 hours from Beech Hill Haven. I enjoy going up there off season. I especially love Halloween on Ledgelawn Avenue in Bar Harbor, with over 1000 kids and their families.
Why the Owner Chose Somesville
I have been vacationing at Acadia for well over 40 years, and decided that I wanted to retire there. My sister also owns a home nearby. I am renting out my house until I move up there from the Boston area, hopefully in late fall of 2013. Somesville is so central to anywhere on Mount Desert Island - and is close enough to, and far enough away from Bar Harbor.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
I fell in love with my log home's cathedral ceiling, and with the lovely moss and woods surrounding my home. It's on the "quiet side", but north of the summer traffic in Southwest Harbor. I've seen lots of deer, squirrels, birds, and even a coyote from my home. I love to sit on my favorite rocks on the Park Loop Road at high tide to watch the waves crash. Another favorite place is Eagle Lake. Of course, popovers on the lawn at Jordan Pond House are always a welcome treat!

This home is every bit as well-furnished, attractive and comfortable as the pictures and information indicate. The cabin is beautifully situated, very near to Bar Harbor, Acadia and other interesting areas. There are several great restaurants of every sort within a short drive or ride. The owner was a joy to work with. She provided an informational packet that covered every question and every detail of the property and its ammenities. She was very warm and open, and her pride in her property is obvious in the care she takes to make sure the rental is without any concerns or problems. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the spacious living area, bathrooms, laundry, garage and the deck (with grill!) hold everything necessary to make the time there carefree and effortless. This was, by far, the best rental property experience we have ever had. I would recommend this property to anyone considering vacationing in this area of Maine.

Great Week at Beech Hill Haven

We spent the first week of Aug 2011 at Beech Hill Haven. Our experience was very pleasant from the first contact with the owner who is warm and friendly and willing to answer any questions. We have a 2 year old and were delighted and surprised by the assortment of toys and books for kids! The rest of our family was over at AMC Echo Lake Camp but they do not allow kids under 4 - which was fine with us. The house is very cozy, comfortable and well equipped. With all the books, puzzles and games there is plenty to do on a rainy day. We are not a big TV family but there were tons of videos. There is also an extensive library of books for all age groups and interests. The kitchen had more cooking equipment than our own kitchen. There is also a great organic farm down the road for fruits and veggies (and chickens and pigs for the kids to watch). We found it easy and convenient to get around the island - 15-20 min max to anywhere. Our hightlight was lunch with popovers at Jordan Pond House. We also enjoyed doing the sand bar walk in Bar Harbor at low tide, a boat trip over to Little Cranberry, and a lobster church supper in Somesville among other things. We have rented lots of houses all over the world from VRBO and this was the best equipped by far. Especially If you have kids this is THE best place.

Our family really enjoyed Beech Hill Haven for our trip to Mount Desert Island. Bobbie's house is equipped with anything and everything so not having a good time would be next to impossible. When we weren't out enjoying all the things to see and do in Acadia and Bar Harbor, we were playing games and reading from the owner's extensive collection of games and books. I would highly recommend Beech Hill Haven to anyone looking to vacation in the Acadia/Bar Harbor area b/c it is centrally located and Bobbie is wonderful to work with and extremely helpful with recommendations for things to see and do in the area as well. Thanks again!!! The Lipski Family

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely log home complete with all of the amenities that you will need. The owner is happy to answer any questions you might have and has equipped the home with many nice details. The location is great, near Acadia national park but nestled in the woods on the quiet side of the island. Enjoy lobsters on the deck, cozy wood fires in the wood stove, listening to the loon while drinking your morning coffee. A welcome respite after a long day of hiking and exploring all that the area has to offer. We stayed for a week in Aug. 2010 with our 3 young children. Enjoy!

We just returned from a wonderful two weeks in this ideal home. We were a family of six: two grandparents, one parent, and three children, ages 4,7, and 10. The space was perfect and it was amazing that this home was loaded with everything we could possibly want--two coffee pots, two lobster pots...even a waffle iron (haven't had waffles in years). The video, game, and toy library was amazing; all the children found age-appropriate items to entertain themselves. The cottaage's location was also perfect for us since we have friends in Southwest and Bar Harbor. It provides easy access to all the park's trails and facilities as well as being close to a grocery store. There was only one problem: no hot water when we arrived. The owner was quick to respond and although the issue became complicated, the owner and service personnel did everything possible to correct the situation as quickly as possible. Hope we can go back soon.

What a great vacation! The log cottage was wonderful; spacious, yet cozy, well-equipped and comfortable. We loved waking up to the sound of the loon and watching the doe and fawn out the window as they grazed in the backyard.
