Why the Owner Chose Yosemite National Park

It wasn't a vacation rental when we bought it- it was raw land. I built there because I felt I belonged there- my wife was kind enough to join me in that endeavor.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Living in Yosemite National Park is almost indescribable. With over 1000 square miles of Park surrounding us, there is much more than could fill a single lifetime. I am amazed that we own a home which is in the midst of such beauty. I am amazed that we moved away and haven't moved back - yet. But that is another story.

A
Wawona Golf Course

The 9 hole Wawona Golf Course is open seasonally and is inexpensive- $18.50 for nine holes, $29.50 for 18. Carts are $15 for nine holes and $24.50 for eighteen.

B
Swinging Bridge

The Swinging Bridge which spans the South Fork of the Merced (doesn't show on the map) is an easy hike and adventure. It is a footbridge, anchored in rock, which sways as you walk.

C
Mariposa Grove of Giant Redwoods

The famous Wawona tree stood in this grove; the grove contains trees which are among the largest and oldest living sequoias, some dating back to before the time of Jesus.

D
The Grotto

The Grotto is a spiritual and peaceful place where a small stream emerges from rocks in a shaded and protected incropping. Ask locals how to get there.

E
Living History Center

The Living History Center re-enacts scenes and typical activities within Yosemite National Park's past, including a blacksmith shop (complete with blacksmith), telegraph office, jail, typical home from

Covered Bridge

The covered bridge reflects the era when it was built by Galen Clark, the first hotelier in the Park. Video: http://virtualguidebooks.com/CentralCalif/Yosemite/Wawona/WawonaCoveredBridge.html and His

G
The Wawona Hotel

Dating from before 1860, Galen Clark's Inn was moved from the Giant Redwoods grove to its present site in what is now Wawona. See history: http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations_WawonaHotel_Histo

Owner's Map of Yosemite National Park

My wife and I were married the first year that we lived in Yosemite National Park. We built our home there, had our three children there, and were part of the small and diverse community of Park Service and concessionaire employees, retirees, and self-employed individuals who lived there. For seven wonderful years we took part in the doings of Wawona- like the one-room school house (I was a substitute teachers aide), the library (where my wife volunteered) the town newsletter and a cabin caretaking business which we ran, as well as many community events with which we helped.

We moved the Wisconsin to be closer to family, but my heart is still there- we hope to return for good after our youngest moves on. Or perhaps she and the other children (who are fast moving beyond childhood) will join us.

A great time, a wonderful spot. The rivers were very full, so we feel fortunate to have one of the few safe swimming holes in your backyard.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week. The house was just what we needed, convenient, adaptable, warm and attractive and with the sound and sight of the river. It is a beautiful spot and a restorative one.

We had a lovely time - we want to come back during the winter to ski. The rushing water put me straight to sleep each night - the best medicine! I feel healed.

Dearly loved your cabin and our stay...end of the road, river ambiance and all the space and the presence of books, homey touches made it a superlative "camping" experience.

We loved it here! Wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely remember it for future trips. We hung out on the deck 90% of our waking time. Perfect setting, loved the sound of the creek. Thank you for offering a dog-friendly property too!

Thank you so much for this much needed touch of heaven! Family of four from San Diego totally thought the 5 1/2 hour drive was worth it. Will return again on the next off-season. Thank you for making your home as hospitable as possible; four adults and two small children thought that no other place would have met our needs. God Bless
