This place was unbelievable, BAR NONE the most magnificant place we have stayed ever ...

I am delayed in providing a review of this amazing home - we stayed there April 2009 and had the vacation of a lifetime. The home is in a secluded area of St. John overlooking Coral Bay, each morning and every evening we took in the beauty of the surroundings, sometimes even the donkeys! The attention to detail was unbelievable - there were nautical references throughout the home, and beautiful peices and art from all over the world - the owner is an artist, and her work is showcased. Because of where the house is, a car is a MUST. As for St. John, the island is simply breathtaking, and the people are lovely. While there are groceries on the island, it is really expensive - if possible, I recommend doing some preliminary shopping in St. Thomas. We ate most meals at the house, as it was totally equipped - better than our own home! John and Liz were amazing hosts, John met us at the ferry and took us to their home ... they even got a pack n' play for our daughter. I could go on and on - all in all, you cannot go wrong renting this home. We traveled with our daughter, another couple and a nanny - there would have been PLENTY of room for another couple and children.

Immaculate & Spacious with beautiful views and easy access to North Shore beaches

We took our 3 teenage children to St. John in early July for the snorkeling and the Sail Loft was the perfect place for our family. Everyone had their space. The sail loft was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The photos do not do it justice. It had great views of Coral Bay especially from the upper deck and hot tub. It was also conveniently located so it was just a short drive to the North shore or East side beaches. The snorkeling on St. John is awesome! Liz & John were very easy to work with and were only a phone call away to answer any questions. The house was easy to find and the driveway was paved with an easy turn around ( this is important when you see the hills & driveways on ST. John) The house had all the amenities that we needed. We would love to return in the future and highly recommend this home to anyone thinking about staying on St. John. It is perfect for families or several couples traveling together. Thanks again for allowing us to use your home Liz & John!!

Going to Saint John? Don't look any further than The Sail Loft

Guest: Markus (Kansas City, MO)
Date of Stay: 06/24/10 Review Submitted: 07/14/10

Normally the pictures you see online make things look prettier and better than in real life....Not so for The Sail Loft, au contraire, because of the lay-out of the house (hugging the slope) it is very hard to do the house justice (I took tons of pictures and none of them came close to reality)... There were a total of six who stayed at The Sail Loft. My wife and I, another couple from the KC area, a friend of ours from DC and my wife's cousin from St Croix. We could not have had a better time. The house is so spacious (with four individual bedrooms in case one of us did not feel sociable they could just retreat) that nobody ever felt crowded (even with another two people in the house it would have been fine). In the morning we all gathered in the living/dining/kitchen area (one open space) of the house, had some sort of breakfast and decided which beach we were planning on going to that day (definitely Maho Bay and Leinster Bay [bring snorkel gear and swim around Watermelon Cay!...need to have some endurance for that]) and then headed out between 9 & 10... Whoever stayed behind cleaned the house a bit and usually napped or read... Upon return from the beach we all cleaned up (with four full sized showers that was never an issue, even though the 'outdoor' showers were the most popular)... And because there is a fully functioning kitchen we only went down to Skinny Legs a couple of times, the other days we just fixed something at the house, played games, created various fresh fruit based rum drinks, read, talked, brainstormed, and simply enjoyed each others company. The Sail Loft is just a place where you want to do all of that. It was interesting to stay at a house without windows (actually windows without glass, but with screens) which enabled the evening breeze that came along the slope to pass through the rooms. Some mosquitoes found their way in too, but that was more due to the fact that the precursor of Hurricane Alex dumped a lot of rain the week prior to our arrival. Also:There is a small grocery store on the Coral Bay side of the island that carries just about anything you need. - A vehicle is a must and the only open gas station we found was in Cruz Bay. – Finally if you leave by plane from St Thomas, make sure that you leave in the late morning the earliest as it will take you time to get to the airport. Airlines were not lenient with ‘late comers’ (at the check-in less than 60 min before take-off and you're out) as they tend to overbook.

Six of us, three couples (myself, sister, and sister-in-law plus our spouses) stayed at sail loft in early January. What a delightful villa! When we arrived just before sunset we were met by John and Sue who showed us the house, but everything was so well designed that we did not need to be in contact with them for the rest of our week stay. With a fantastic view, cooling breezes, a well-laid out design, and a hot tub perfect for happy hour, Sail Loft was one of the best (the best?) villas we have rented in our 8 stays on STJ. It is conveniently located to north and south side beaches, and less than 5 minutes from Coral Bay (although only 15 - 20 minutes away, we actually don't get to Cruz Bay much....). At night you can hear the music waft up from Island Blues and Skinny Legs, but it is quiet before 11 - except for the frogs when it rains! We love them! An added bonus is the birds in the trees during our morning coffee - a great way to start the day. Just the right place to kick back between snorkeling forays to STJ's great beaches. Steve Cohen

We just returned from a lovely Christmas with our family in St. John. We stayed at Sail Loft for the week and it was a perfect home for our family. It is well equipped, has great views and beautiful furnishings and offers privacy for a large group. We loved the feeling of safety, the Caribbean sunrises and Coral Bay. We have stayed in a different St. John villa each year for the past 10 and Sail Loft is certainly at the top of our list. There is nothing missing from great beds to an abundance of books to the best equipped kitchen we have ever seen. The owners are delightful and close by if needed. You will definitely be pleased if you book your vacation at this special home.

Virtually perfect Carribean rendezvous - a beautiful home surrounded with beautiful art, antique furnishings and whimsical nautical nuance helped create an elegant and peaceful vacation retreat within minutes of the best beaches, bars and trails. We would revisit in a heartbeat.
