We are installing a new kitchen in the guest house for summer of 2012, so it can be rented separately from the main house. Please inquire for rates and further details.
Our houses are situated about 100 yards up a country lane off the South Road in Chilmark. Alley’s General Store is one mile to the east, Lucy Vincent Beach is three miles to the west, and another mile brings you to Beetlebung Corner and The Chilmark Store. You can continue out State Road to Squibnocket Beach, or head up to Menemsha to watch the sunset, perhaps while enjoying a freshly boiled lobster from Larsen’s. Your lease enables you to acquire a pass for Lucy Vincent Beach and Squibnocket Beach. We’re about a mile from the farmer’s markets and crafts shows in West Tisbury.
We built the guest house with office in 2004. The open architecture gives it a lovely rustic feel. The bedroom has a queen bed and full bath. We are installing a new kitchen for 2012 and the guest house will also have its own grill and picnic table.
We installed beautiful pine paneling throughout the downstairs of the main house a few years ago. It gives it a warm, inviting ambiance. A spiral staircase brings you upstairs to a queen master bedroom with half bath and an open bedroom on the other side of the house with three twins. Downstairs is the kitchen with Bosch dishwasher, a den with TV and a pull-out sofa, and a full bath. The house has wi-fi Internet access. The basement includes new washer and dryer.
We built a wonderful, free-standing outdoor shower about 20 yards off the back of the main house. It includes a small sitting/changing area. We also added a free-standing screen house in the back yard. We use it for quiet reading time, afternoon naps, drinks, the Sunday puzzle, or an “adventure sleepover” for the kids; doubtless you will find equally good ways to enjoy it.
The back deck features several seating areas and a propane grill.
We ask that you supply your own bed linens and towels, but most everything else you need is supplied, including beach chairs, lobster pot, fully-equipped kitchen, hair dryer, etc.
We welcome well-mannered pets who have had recent flea/tick treatment, so please feel free to inquire if you’d like to bring yours.
Please note there is a $210 per rental cleaning fee.

Our Guest House is available as a stand-alone rental $1500 per week. Guest House has queen bed, full-size futon sofa/bed, full bath, small kitchen with cooktop, frig, microwave, sink, and gas bbq. Perfect for couples with a small child or two. Note that another party will be in the main house at the same time, about 30 yards away. One week minimum.
Rates are for house AND guest house. Please inquire if you wish to rent only one. We are Jennie and Jeremy Driesen and we live in Pelham, NY with two children, a black dog, and a black cat. Jeremy is an events producer and Jennie is a nurse.
Why the Owner Chose Chilmark
We stayed with friends in Chilmark and fell in love with Lucy Vincent Beach and the whole feel of Chilmark. While we were there, 8 Swans Way came on the market. It seemed a bit impulsive at the time, but we bought it. One of the best things we ever did. We have spent a number of full summers on the island and forgot to go home one September (we enrolled the kids in The Chilmark School and stayed for 14 months).
The Unique Benefits of this House
We love so many things in Chilmark and the Vineyard in general, including, in no particular order, Lucy Vincent Beach, Menemsha, The Chilmark Store, Chilmark Chocolates, The Chilmark School, The Chilmark Library, the fair, The Ritz, Sharky's, Offshore Ale, biking, last-minute pot luck dinners with friends, etc etc etc.

...to our summer island vacation. This is our second year renting here - My wife and I spent the week with friends and their children & dog and it honestly felt like our home away from home. Whether grilling or sipping cocktails on the deck, napping on the hammock (there were lots of those!), strumming some guitar in the screen house, or winding down the day in the cozy living room, there was a certain natural comfort about it all, and to me that kind of thing makes a great vacation extra special. No matter what we did out and about, it always felt wonderful to return to this inviting retreat tucked into the woods.... immersed in the quiet, cool summer breeze, the vibrant hydrangeas competing with the sky to see who was really blue, an Adirondack chair beckoning for me to just sit & be. To reiterate what another reviewer said, the outdoor shower is more than a treat- waking up in that shower with the sunshine pouring in and the trees around, well, it was certainly a vacation highlight. The kids loved the zipline, too, though maybe they enjoyed being curled up in the hammock and being read to just as much. Ammenitively speaking, the property has all it needs. Simple things like good water pressure didn't go unnoticed - as well as wi-fi, adequate cookware, modern appliances, comfortable furniture, and the DVD player... and it was also nice to have beach goodies like chairs and boogie boards available. Most nights we ate out, but we did grill up some steaks and fresh fish and found everything we needed to prepare a perfect meal. I don't think the photos posted really do the property justice! But they will certainly provide a good idea. The guest house, for instance, is quite large for two people, and includes a little office-area and a treadmill, and a nice clean bathroom and shower. We obtained a pass for Lucy Vincent beach and the house's proximity to the beach was perfect - just a quick ride right down the road. We visited Long Point beach, and that was only about a 15 minute drive. The renowned Menemsha sunsets are only a few minutes away, too. Sometimes when on vacation one must "get real", and it's good to know Alley's general store is a hop, skip and jump away, and the Chilmark store is just a short drive away. And if you're getting REALLY real, don't forget about Chilmark Chocolates, about as real as it gets, mmmmm! We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a very relaxing MV vacation!

We spent two weeks here, and everything about the house and yard and guest house was perfect. Of all the many places we have rented on MV over a decade, no place has felt so right, so cozy, so romantic. The owners were always available via email, and any time we had a question, it was answered immediately. Oh, do we recommend this place...

what a wonderful vacation we had. The house was perfect for our extended family vaca. My husband and I and our three small children, my parents and my adult sister and her boyfriend all stayed together and it was great. The guesthouse was perfect for my sister and my parents stayed in the family room and we took over the upstairs. The outdoor shower was such a treat. No one showered inside! Our daughter enjoyed reading on the screened porch with her grandmother and the zip line was an extra special surprise. We can not wait to go back~ Lucy Vincent beach was wonderful and easy to get to...and the Chilmark Store had everything we needed and yummy sandwiches~ Great place.

We stayed in this house for our 5th summer vacation on the Vineyard (2009) and will be going back again this summer to this same house. The unusual qualities of this house make it unique and desirable. The main house is cozy and comfortable. The guest cottage gives one the opportunity to return weekend invitations to friends or family and yet feel like you're not, because they're under another roof! The separate screen porch allows an escape for an afternoon read or nap or a great place for an after dinner cigar! We felt totally secluded and yet half a mile down the main road was the President of the U.S. (who may have seen us wildly waving the one time we were passed by a number of blacked out SUVs on the road). Chilmark itself is a place of exceptional beauty. Driving down the road toward Aquinnah, one could believe they were in Ireland, with the sheep grazing on one side of the road and the ocean on the other, the same view from Lucy Vincent Beach.. Squibnocket was the chosen one for the kids' boogie boarding. And you're a short ride from Menemsha, the best place in the world to eat lobsters at sunset. I can't wait to go back!
